Epic Games wants you to know that the Gears of War 2 Lancer bundle (the one that's exclusive to Amazon.com) is selling like "hot cakes" even at the $139 price point. They probably want you to know that so they can further fuel demand by making the product appear to be limited as its sales success soars. We can totally see through all that marketing fluff. Hot cake sales quotes aside, we also learn that the toy Lancer is in fact electronic and with the power of three C size batteries (probably not included), the 36" replica shakes and makes epic chainsaw sounds. Authentic chainsaw sounds! Sign us up for two!

Dustin you know it would actually take less time/effort to just type out "$139" instead of "the $139 price point." Just so's you know... ;P
Anyway you're not a real Gears fan unless you custom make your own Lancer, like this "little" baby:

What? Like the boy I just watched on MSN news who made all his own carboard Halo 3 guns and the armour to go with it?

Well, I bought the Halo 3 legendary but I'm not buying this special edition.
I guess that states where my loyalty lies.

Yeah. I'm going to buy Gears of War 2, but I'm not going to go the whole hog on it.

Amazon offers just about free shipping whenever you buy $50 worth of stuff. You think $139 in books would be light?

bah! If I bought it it would just collect dust like the Halo 3 helmet. Since I got the Halo 3 Legendary edition for $60, maybe I will wait until this "special" GoW2 edition is $60...lol

Well, apparently they're only selling it bundled with the game at the start and after that it will be the same price for just the lancer itself (hence the way they say "buy the lancer get the game free" rather than calling it a bundle).
So, even if it drops to $60 it would still be $60 for just the lancer with no game, which brings it to $120 for the "bundle".

People were lined up to buy it for $139 when it looked like that was the "non-bundle" price. In fact, most people were yelling up and down that $139 would *not* include the game, so for some it's a pleasant surprise that the full-size "replica" is "only" $80 or so.
That said, I'm still on the fence... I think it looks pretty badass, but we'll see about the disposable income part.

i guess some people manage their money poorly :)
but hey, if it makes people happy to play with a toy gun for a couple of minutes before it goes into a closet, to each his own

Or they manage it well enough that they're left over with plenty of money to spend on collectibles or other stuff like that.
Seriously, with as badly as people screw up their car loans many people could afford to be 30 of these lancers and still come out ahead of another person driving the same car. Who's to say they're not one of those people?

I'm sure you have some habits that are strange, childish, and/or perverse to some people. Many people enjoy collectibles, and I've seen dudes spend a hell of a lot more money on a hell of a lot smaller/useless items. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say.
This would actually be my first such purchase, because I think it looks pretty damn cool. But, like I said, it depends on the disposable income at the time. Key word: disposable. As in Vcize's definition of well-managed money, as in not skipping my electric bill or something like that to buy a fake gun.

There is no "special" edition that includes the lancer AND the game. It's possible Amazon will always bundle them, but I suspect they'll run out of Lancers much quicker than H3 Legendary Editions. I've still seen Legendary Editions at Best Buy occasionally. And remember how they were supposed to run out of them, and you had better have pre-ordered it?

I can picture the battlefield scene now:
Marcus: "Hey Dom, got any more batteries? My gun's run out and I want it to go Rrrrrrrm rrrrm rrrrm rrrraaaaaaaaaaarrrrrm again."
Dom: "I've got some AA's for my sing-a-long Tigger somewhere. Will they do?......."
