EA reveals Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure for DS
Neat hat on a clever noggin news now, with EA announcing Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure (working title), a platformer/puzzler for the Nintendo DS. Developed by an EA Tiburon team under the publisher's Casual Entertainment label, Hatsworth hopes to fuse the "action of an adventure game with the challenge of a puzzle game," with players switching between "action-platform" screens and "the increasingly challenging puzzle world."
EA promises over 30 levels and five "exotic" worlds for the geriatric genius to explore, complete with power ups, enemies and "outrageous world-ending bosses." The game's executive producer, Scott Walker, describes it as "an incredibly unique game" that you "won't want to put down" once it ships in 2009 -- which either means it's very good, or it has some sort of explosive detonator strapped to the back of the cartridge.

I have high hopes for any DS puzzlery action of this nature. Especially if Joystiq shops a Professor Layton in the picture.
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 12th 2008 2:31PM
mmmm... even the name of the title is way too Laytonishi.
dark_inchworm @ Aug 12th 2008 2:36PM
HOW ORIGINAL
Lijik @ Aug 12th 2008 8:34PM
The only thing similar is the title, and the new hat (it was originally just a safari hat). The puzzle segments are really more of a tetris-esque mold.
Seriously people, its not that "Me-too" of a game.
Jacksons @ Aug 12th 2008 2:36PM
It's a little hard to figure anything out from those screen shots, but it got me interested.
sicsided @ Aug 12th 2008 2:46PM
There is video out there of this game in action, look them up.
I was very excited for this game, which might make me drop the psp and actually pick up my ds.
Superstar90 @ Aug 12th 2008 2:42PM
I think it's not too much of a copy of Professor Layton, that game was strictly an adventure puzzle. This game is a platformer puzzle.
The_Punisher @ Aug 12th 2008 2:46PM
Why don't they just call it Professor Layton: The Ripoff and call it a day.
Ben @ Aug 12th 2008 2:56PM
Ha! Great pic!
Chuck @ Aug 12th 2008 2:59PM
This game was under development long before professor layton came out.
Not really a rip off, it's a very different game.
Saria the Cat @ Aug 12th 2008 3:02PM
Here, here! I don't know why people are even complaining about another potentially awesome puzzle game coming out, anyway. Would you really complain if another Layton game came out if you liked the first one? It's not like a sequel would kill anything since it's based around riddles and point and click adventuring.
samfish @ Aug 12th 2008 3:38PM
We're just laughing at the obvious Me-Too-iness of the game.
I loved Professor Layton, so I'll at least keep a fairly open mind. If it has that same combination of charm and challenge that Professor Layton does, then I'll buy it (although without animated cutscenes, I'm doubtful it'll stack up...)
That said, I'd much, much MUCH rather have the real Layton sequels than this.
samfish @ Aug 12th 2008 3:50PM
Also, I sincerely doubt that this was in development before Professor Layton was.
tooPrime @ Aug 12th 2008 3:02PM
I know everyone gonna call this a Professor Layton rip off, but seriously this dude has a monocle! He wins! That said, what did Layton do that was new, charming professor themed puzzle game? Well this is old man themed puzzle game! Innovation people, the man is old and looks cooler!
Nigeria @ Aug 12th 2008 3:06PM
I'll check this out, maybe, probably not, I don't know. He looks like he's in pain, kinda.
Anyway, Professor Layton was awesome, in fact, I was playing the game a couple of weeks ago - those weekly puzzles build up after awhile. But where's the English release of the 2nd title? Is it even coming out anymore?
deCaff @ Aug 12th 2008 3:34PM
Completly new and original, soo innovative and fresh.
EA YOUVE DONE IT AGAIN!

OMG DEAD MAN'S SWITCH PAK FOR DS CONFIRMED!!!
samfish @ Aug 12th 2008 3:48PM
I'm quite intrigued by the platforming element, though unsure if it'll work, if the game is as much like Professor Layton as it sounds like.
And damnit, if Nintendo released Professor Layton & Pandora's Box in the US this holiday, that would totally make up for the lack of any other interesting games coming from them this winter in my mind. Professor Layton & the Curious Village is probably my current front runner for 2008 GOTY!
And the second Professor Layton game is done in Japan and out. Hell, the THIRD one is coming out in a few weeks!
Damn you, Nintendo...damn you.

Looks fun. The music greatly appeals to me as well. We shall see, Professor Hatsworth.
David @ Aug 12th 2008 4:29PM
Ah, competition. I can't wait to pick up both the Layton sequel and this.
Bob @ Aug 12th 2008 4:30PM
Meh, I'd prefer just getting the second Layton game.

Cool! another gay hero, and this time he's playing a detective!
Ashley @ Aug 15th 2008 12:18PM
Quick question? Do any of you people comparing this to professor layton know what an action platformer is? lol Professor layton is a series of different puzzles topped with a cute story line. This is an action platformer... like mario bros with intermittent puzzle play. And no offense but just because it features two british characters doesn't make the strikingly japanese art style of layton and Hatsworth's strinkingly american art style similar. good grief people... look here for an early game play video. http://www.dsfanboy.com/2008/08/12/henry-hatsworths-brilliant-return/
