IGN shows off three Mega Man 9 bosses
Capcom has fed IGN screenshots featuring three of the 8-bit bosses in the upcoming nouveau retro Mega Man 9. There's apparently some backstory to this ninth fifty-somethingith game in the franchise, but the main point is that Mega Man will go on another killing spree with no care for robot rights.
IGN had the opportunity to show off Concrete Man, Tornado Man and Magma Man ... not to be confused with Guts Man, Air Man, and every other fire guy in the series. Tornado Man is above, but check out Concrete Man and Magma Man after the break.

in all honesty i never really enjoyed playing the original mega mans, even as a kid... I just thought the level designs where bad and developers made the game more frustrating than it needed to be.
I also dont find megaman sexually attractive or anything, but im sure 9 will be fun.

Dude, you are nuts. Pixels are so sexy.

Does anyone know how many microsoft points this will cost when it's released, i'm considering getting it.
Jakka (Not sure why he got banned?) @ Aug 12th 2008 6:14PM
...better be less than 800.

This is relevant to my interests.

I've been gaming since I was 8 (1978), but since I started computer gaming when I was 12 - I missed the whole Mega Man deal.
What's the big deal about Mega Man that makes it different from other platformers. I understand that there are various forms you can take, but what makes it special?

It's tough to say what made/makes Mega Man so appealing. It's great having the freedom to choose which order you play the levels, the bosses are usually interesting, it's great stealing weapons, the music is phenomenal, and it's just downright great platforming.
I haven't played MM9, but it looks very much like true, honest-to-goodness old school Mega Man, so if you're interested, I'd say download the demo when it appears on Xbox Live (if you have a 360). Here's hoping they'll have a demo on PS3 (and we all know there won't be one on Wii).
shrapnel09 @ Aug 12th 2008 5:59PM
say whaaaat? demo on 360? i didnt even see that, i best jump on that bitch while i can, it will keep me satisfied until the NES release comes out...THEN it will be true old school.

The original mega man games (and even some of the spinoffs to a certain extent) are just straight-up classic platformers that are widely recognized for their creative level design, fast gameplay, and challenging difficulty. You have to play them yourself as there are really only two groups when it comes to MM games: either you don't get it or you become a die-hard fanatic (myself falling into the latter). I don't meet many "casual" MM fans. But do try them: they're just plain fun.

Erm, all XBLA titles have demos.
Tiptup300 @ Aug 12th 2008 5:47PM
It better be in 1080p!
shrapnel09 @ Aug 12th 2008 6:00PM
personally i was hoping for a more 480i 4:3 old school feel with a little audio static to fully recreate the RF signal feel.
Monkeys Suck @ Aug 12th 2008 5:59PM
I see what you did there.
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 12th 2008 5:57PM
Wow... this game is going to be awesome.
I will definitely activate the "bug" features.
Desert Eagle @ Aug 12th 2008 6:14PM
Yo tambien. :D
Good old-school DLC goodness that I will no doubt buy in another day that isn't the same day it comes out. Speaking of it, when does it come out? September or October?
frogprince @ Aug 12th 2008 6:12PM
The first games I owned were Mega Man, Castlevania, and Alpha Mission. My parents were cruel.
Wood Man = Particleboard Man?
waynski1457 @ Aug 12th 2008 6:22PM
As excited as I am for this game, I knew that it would be the bosses that would be the "letdown" for me. I will still buy this day one, mind you, but I guess I just wanted more original robots done in 8-bit. I guess I can't really complain though because the 6 before it weren't really original in any way either...
/no originality anymore rant. *goes back to playing FFIVDS*
Donald @ Aug 12th 2008 6:34PM
This is the reason I hooked my Wii up to the internet. I'd just get it on the 360 but Mega Man with that controller? FUCK NO. Turning the remote sideways FTW!
Bocephus 90 @ Aug 12th 2008 7:42PM
*Yawn* Or I could play Megaman 1-300 and get the same rehashed regurgitated experience. I really hope this game dies a horrific death.

Not likely - for many people (including myself) this is the most anticipated game of the year, on ANY platform.
EternityInBlack @ Aug 12th 2008 7:43PM
Looks like the characters are a mashup of the existing Mega Man sprites:
Magma Man = Needle Man body, Fire Man "fire" effect
Tornado Man = Wood Man face and colors with head lowered into body, Quick Man arms and legs
Concrete Man = Toad Man (yes, there really is a Toad Man)
Rafael @ Aug 12th 2008 8:15PM
mega man is a great title... cant wait to put my hands on this retro classic game.
Dustin @ Aug 13th 2008 12:14AM
I know this question is probably useless, but has MS or Capcom announced any sort of release schedule?
SuckItTrebek @ Aug 13th 2008 12:53AM
"It's gameplay, not graphics! Gameplay, not graphics! Innovation, not graphics! Original IPs, not more sequels! Ohhhh, shit, did you see the new Megaman 9 screens? They're making it look like a NES game and even play like one, it's gonna rock!"
PSN & GAMERTAG: jorojoserojas - Wii FC: 0749-8609-3752-6926 @ Aug 13th 2008 12:53AM
I distinctly remember September, but I can't find the source of that statement.
At least, I hope it's September.

Magmaman actually looks a lot like Needleman to me.

Supposedly, Keiji "Inafking" Inafune designed Megaman 9's Robot Masters himself, as opposed to having fans submit their designs in contests. Which could explain their... familarity...
Tim The Enchanter @ Aug 13th 2008 9:45AM
Oh man, there goes another 10 bucks.
We need the collection to come out on newer systems.
I need MMII!!!! Do it already!
