Anyone that has been gaming for a while knows that Mega Man is a tough series. Many of the original 8-bit entries in the series remain some of the toughest games around. Capcom looks to be honoring that legacy via the achievements in the upcoming XBLA release Mega Man 9, because these achievements are tough. At least they sound like they are. Among the achievements are feats such as completing the game five times in one day (Gamer's Day), clearing the game without dying (Invincible) and defeating every boss using only Mega Man's default weapon (Trusty Sidearm). Yow. Anyone out there who can land all twelve achievments gets our respect.

Why do some companies go out of their way to make ridiculous achievements? Do they think this earns respect? I don't want retarded easy stuff, But I don't feel like having to clear a game 5x just to get my 100 points

I gave up on caring about achievements after beating GOW co-op with my friend and having only 90 points, I like unlocking things in game much more than achievement points.
Also, when is this coming out? I love me some Mega-Man.

Those are definitely in the spirit of Mega Man... I'll be lucky to get half of those I imagine... the five times in one day one is kind of dumb though.
I hope this game works well enough with the 360 controller or I might forgo achievements altogether and get it on the Wii.

Although I will probably never get all 200 gamerscore I find that the achievements compliment the rest of the game nicely. Old-school games are back!

It utterly perplexes me that people are not only willing, but EXCITED to pay 10 dollars for what is in effect an nes game (especially given the quality of the later mega man games) and yet balk at a super original game like braid for being only 5 bucks more.

Okay (1) stop assuming we're all the same people; the Internet is not a single person who holds every possible opinion ever, (2) $10 is 33% the price of any number of shitty DS mini-game compilations that people buy in droves. $10 is a steal as far as I'm concerned.

I shall try for every single MM9 achievement. I feel like I'm definitely a vet to the series, I can pretty much beat all the bosses in all original 3 without dying and no need for any special weapons.

They're called achievements, not play-through-the-game-and-get-100%-gamerscore awards.
I like when they're tough. Particularly with XBLA releases that are generally shorter. They really expand the replay value for me. I doubt I would have played Contra as much as I did if it wasn't for the one continue achievement, for example.

God, gamers really are fucking pussies now. The 5-in-a-day is dumb, but the others aren't that big a deal. Makes me wonder how wussy the achievements are in other 360 games.
All old-school games take is TIME you put in to learn the game. That's it. There's no mythical secret videogame power you need to be good at OG games.

More importantly (to me, anyway, since I plan on getting this on the Wii), is that Splash Woman in the beat the game achievement? I believe it is - and those other ones look suspiciously like the other currently unshown robot masters.

I love it, they make me remember the old days playing with my NES, all the people complaining about it are just a bunch of pussies.

Blah, is this going to be a 5 dollar game because it sure looks like one.
Why wouldn't Capcom put out one of the Megaman X series those look way better and still retain the toughness. Either that or the Viewtiful Joe series is doable in the arcade now why this Capcom?

If they cap the difficulty level on par with Megaman 2's, most of them are pretty doable. I don't like achievements like "Peacekeeper" and "Conservationist", since they're much too vague for their own good (although the latter can be done using *no* energy weapon whatsoever and this is something I always thought I'd like to do in a MM game - and now I have a reason to do it; Peacekeeper might have the player killing only bosses and sub-bosses, which sounds the hardest of them all). Since most achievements contradict themselves and involve clearing the game, if one tries to do a few of them in the same day, Gamer's Day is a given (and nicely named too). I liked these achievements a lot. And yeah, I'm that hyped for this game.
