OXM finds Xbox 360 games that have flatlined online
Sure, we could spend this post laughing at the 360 games singled out by Official Xbox Magazine for having practically (and literally in some cases) no remaining online communities. But we don't want to do that. We want to lift up, we want to celebrate those brave, lost souls that just keep hanging in there.
So, good for you Jamoun Da Don, the last guy still playing FIFA 06. (Just between us girls, we thought 2007 was overrated as a year too.) Hooray for the eight people playing Tenchu Z that have found a way to get the sadomasochistic services they used to pay a girl in Chinatown hundreds for. Congratulations to all of you ... we couldn't be more horrified.

Actually, Blitz is really fun online but it has probably the worst online for 360 games. It was terribly broken and was difficult to get matches to even work. I would still play it online if it wasn't for that.
The Daymonster @ Aug 12th 2008 12:43PM
One of the funnier articles I have read. Thanks for the post.
Duke @ Aug 12th 2008 12:48PM
Its always a tad depressing when you enter MP to find that you are the only one out there trying to play a game online. I've been there in a few games.
Jawmuncher @ Aug 12th 2008 12:49PM
yeah that sucks, especially when the game is MP Heavy on achievements.
theturtle363 @ Aug 12th 2008 2:50PM
god i hate that, they should only have lots of MP achievements if they know it's going to be a hit. The worst part was with COD4 which they knew would be HUGE had no mp points
Dr. Stabbingworth @ Aug 12th 2008 3:14PM
I loved CoD4's lack of MP achievements. I shouldn't have to be a subscriber to Live in order to be eligible for achievements on a $60 game.
dark_inchworm @ Aug 12th 2008 4:20PM
I'm going to +1 Dr. Stabbingworth as many times as this site will allow.
Dirk Dorkelson @ Aug 12th 2008 4:33PM
I agree. Games shouldn't have multiplayer achievements, unless they're just "win X games online" or "get X kills online." Weapon-specific achievements are the worst. Everyone just bickers about which gun they want. No fun at all.
Mr.ESC @ Aug 12th 2008 10:14PM
I agree with that too.Mile high club was hard enough and Single player achievements are just great.
I really hate MP achievements since those rarelly have anything to do with skill, most of them depend on Luck and grinding.
10,000 in Gears of war...Good luck with that.
(Even so 10,002 kills in B:BB are possible..no seriously.)
Numerous @ Aug 12th 2008 10:18PM
Trying playing Marathon on XBLA. Barren wasteland.
J @ Aug 12th 2008 12:48PM
They should do this again but concentrate on Xbox Live games. There's a lot that I try to get multiplayer achievements on but can never find any other players.
Xoviet chiK @ Aug 12th 2008 12:52PM
Many of those are annually updated games. Must be disappointing for some to see F.E.A.R. there, as seemingly all of the achievements are multiplayer grinders.
The Outfit hasn't had life 8 months post-release. Genuinely fun game, especially online, and it's cheap too.
ChooChooCharlie @ Aug 12th 2008 1:39PM
Yeah, tell me about it.
I just bought my 360 last October, and FEAR was one of the older titles I picked up. Needless to say, the online community was very disappointing. Took about 10min just to find a match (IF I could even find one), and once I did I'd get my ass handed to me by spawn campers, who'd obviously had the game for months.
McWeen @ Aug 12th 2008 12:53PM
I used to create a game in Stranglehold on live and go make dinner because you would maybe find 1 other player after a half hour or so.
arrrgh @ Aug 12th 2008 1:38PM
i really enjoy stranglehold as well!
ive had similar experiences :(
McWeen @ Aug 12th 2008 1:40PM
maybe we should have our mom's arrange a 'play date'
Wiinterfang @ Aug 12th 2008 12:56PM
LOL Joystiq have done it again.
RudyPants @ Aug 12th 2008 1:01PM
Why not post a few other titles just to peak our interest? I understand not posting all of them (because of copyrights, etc.), but this post doesn't really tell us anything.

I used to love playing Tron 2.0 online... I'd be shocked if anybody is still playing today.
T @ Aug 12th 2008 1:12PM
These are the reasons why I hate online multiplayer achivements...
Not in these particular games, but in similar situations. Like Crackdown. Beat the whole game in multiplayer? I can barely find anybody who wants to play a single mission let alone the whole thing.
Saxon @ Aug 12th 2008 2:30PM
Send me message on Live; I'll play Crackdown with you; I love that game. I'm Saxonius.
Alex @ Aug 13th 2008 2:10AM
ahhh but do you have the add-ons?????
T @ Aug 13th 2008 10:03AM
I only have the two Free-Packs. Though I'm very disappointed that the achievements and content are already sitting on my game "locked" because I haven't paid for them yet.
That's very annoying.
thomashenwood @ Aug 12th 2008 1:26PM
That was the most hilarious article I've read in ages.
CyberKnight @ Aug 12th 2008 1:37PM
One minor positive: for those with the "Win X ranked online matches in a row" achievements and the like, it makes it really easy to boost with a friend nowadays.
A friend and I were able to knock out a few older XBLA and disc game achievements in a night that way. (TimeShift, Wing Commander)
But it is kind of depressing, especially for games that are actually pretty good (or at the very least, just "different") and just didn't get a following (TimeShift, Shadowrun; which at least aren't *all* dead).
bwryan75 @ Aug 12th 2008 8:14PM
I've been considering firing up Shadowrun again for a few months now... definitely a fun game, and a different FPS experience than anything else out there. I have a feeling though that if people are still playing, they are going to absolutely kill me.
Wish the game was more successful -- I would have loved a sequel that fixed alot of the cosmetic problems that plagued the game's ratings/sales/popularity.
bxstrb @ Aug 12th 2008 1:52PM
this story makes me want to fire up Test Drive Unlimited just to see if anyone is even driving around Hawaii anymore. It'd be great if the game had a component that if you hadn't played it in a few months, your cars and houses were all dusty and the clothes you bought at Mark Ecko were now out of style.
FoxHoundADAM @ Aug 12th 2008 1:58PM
THe only "older" 360 game I still had an online community is The Outfit. Pretty fun online but sadly I got it over a year after it came out so few people play it. But I have CoD4 to calm my sadness.
zero2dash @ Aug 12th 2008 2:50PM
I haven't played it online yet, but I do like Tenchu Z. $15 during Gamefly's preplayed sale, I couldn't pass that up after having fun messing around in the demo. Not the greatest game in the world, and certainly it has its flaws, but I've still had fun playing it.
svenhoek @ Aug 12th 2008 4:31PM
One game that should have been on there is Battlestations: Midway.
The first couple of SP missions were crap, and the tutorial took FOREVER. But, getting through the learning curve, there was a great game there with alot of potential for online play. Nowadays youll find more people in one of the demo MP matches then in the actual game. I still play the demo from time to time too, its a really fun game.
bookishboy @ Aug 12th 2008 8:13PM
I'm sorry to see that this was covered in such a negative light. Yes, the article was amusing, but the thrust of it was that players should be embarrassed to have their gamertags seen playing out-of-date dusty titles. Actually, the ability to have online support for most XBL games far past their "use by" date is a big feature for me.
It's one of the main reasons why I'm willing to shell out an annual membership for XBL.... because I rarely have to worry about a game's online play getting canceled before I've had my fill of it. If there's still 2 people in the world looking to play a particular game online, we can make plans and meet up at a specific time.
screath @ Aug 12th 2008 6:41PM
I've actually had a Tenchu Z player on my friends list. I can say the same for Phantasy Star Online. But hey, I still play my Nintendo 64 games.
jabbertrack @ Aug 12th 2008 7:29PM
I rented Stranglehold and got a good laugh when I joined a game that seemed to be basically a group of youngsters talking about nefarious things. I sat there for 5 minutes in their lobby waiting for a game to start and nothing... then I was kicked.
Luis Reyes @ Aug 12th 2008 7:36PM
they should put rockstar table tennis on there too, can spend an entire day and maybe at most have 1 match with 1 other person, if you are lucky
Mr.ESC @ Aug 12th 2008 10:18PM
Tell me about it I never got the final achievements in The Darkness due lack of people. I just needed play 50,100 and 250 matches but there wasn't anyone except for a small group that was grinding the achievements. I can’t tell you how sad it is too see a group of people taking turns to kill each other but the saddest part they had 1,000 in games like PDZ etc with only 5000 gamer points each one of them. Basically they speeded their time playing game nobody cared for the achievements just grinding them without having fun at all ,just pathetic.
(I hope B:BB isn’t one of those games ,is really fun to play)
MaxShrek @ Aug 13th 2008 7:49PM
The Outfit was pretty barren last time I checked for an online game. Now it has to be dead.
