Oh, Japanese television, how we love thee so. If you need a reason to share in our affection, look no further than this spot for Konami's forthcoming cell phone title, Metal Gear Ac!d Mobile. It's four minutes of sheer digital – as in fingers – brilliance, with action from MGS4 re-created using ... thumbs. Thumbs with mustaches and bandanas. Thumbs with OctoCamo. Thumbs.
Fantastic. Loved the pans with the vertigo effect. But... the whole point is that you play with your fingers? Because it's on a cell phone? Wouldn't you use your thumbs? I think the R1/2 L1/2 buttons get more finger action than this game will.
Not a fan of the Ac!d series. Mostly because I wanted Portable Ops sooner than I got it. I think I could play this on a phone, though.
hm, in the version i played, the graphics were MUCH better and they weren't fingers. wonder where they got this footage. or is this what unlocks after you complete it on hard?
Brilliant. Usually, I am immune to adverts, but this one pushed my buttons... bringing my inevitable purchase of a PS3 closer. Must hold off... until price drop...

You really didn't find that funny at all? I'm guessing you either have never played the game or you have no sense of humor.
syrik zero @ Aug 13th 2008 5:06PM
I've played the game and I found that brilliant!
Batzarro @ Aug 13th 2008 9:58PM
Both are true, but I'm just weirded out...
Dobbybabee @ Aug 12th 2008 11:12PM

For some reason, all I can think of during the commercial was Thumb Wars.
Pal @ Aug 13th 2008 12:17AM
Really? "For some reason"?
Mike M. @ Aug 13th 2008 1:58AM
Just a hunch, but maybe it was all the thumbs.
Taco_Hell @ Aug 13th 2008 2:19AM

Zertoss @ Aug 12th 2008 11:17PM

rob @ Aug 13th 2008 1:05AM
Um... you don't think they might actually be thimbles?
Mike M. @ Aug 13th 2008 2:02AM
Wait, are you saying that thimbles existed before Monopoly?
Tim The Enchanter @ Aug 13th 2008 1:14PM
What POSSIBLE other use could there be for thimbles? They were created solely for Monopoly. They were later adapter for sowing.

It sure would be nice to have a game where player life is replenished not by waiting behind cover or eating dog food but by looking at porn.

Yeah, I know that bizarre commercials and cell phone games screams Japan, but...
"Now available for your cell phone at your mobile network operator in Europe & Australia."
...Japanese television, huh?
The Doctor @ Aug 13th 2008 5:55PM
Not only did the commercial advertise Europe & Australia's versions, but it was in ENGLISH. Are we sure its from Japan joystiq?
AlwaysOn @ Aug 13th 2008 2:42AM
If there would be thumbs in space and they would be at war with each other there would be THUMB WARS!!!
If you love thumbs, thumb wars is the way to thumb... eh I mean go :P
DJMayhem @ Aug 13th 2008 2:51AM
The shot of Thumb Snake should have had him walking away from the blast, just to add to the cheese of it all!

But awesome ad. Wonder if i'll ever actually see it on TV here in Australia...
