Dust off your Wii, it's time to watch a DVD

Nintendo isn't exactly swinging for the fences with the remainder of its 2008 Wii lineup, but then, when you hit your grand slam so early in the year, it's easy to fade in the second half of the season. Thankfully, homebrewer Erant has stepped up to the plate and delivered a clutch hit: DVD video playback.

... Um, let's try that again: DVD VIDEO PLAYBACK!!1!!!!!

The no mess utility is easy to install (well, maybe not for grandpa) and includes a media player that also makes nice with the video files stored on your SD card. All we need now is a VHS-to-DVD converter so we can transfer mom's old step aerobics tapes onto disc. That's right, homebrewed balance board games! Who knew all this old stuff could feel so new again?

It's the truth, too. Seriously, when was the last time you played your Wii? There's just nothing left to play. Besides picking up my wiimote and pretending it's a lightsaber, I've basically forgotten about the Wii.

No kidding. My brother bought a PS3. Game count = 1 (MGS4, of course), BluRay movie count = 15. Hmm...

For real. I moved it to an upstairs TV the day after I got WiiFit...and never even bothered to plug it back in.

Fernando Rocker, there are a lot of great games on the system, I spend most of my time in GTA though.

Any 360 fanboy can say than the Xbox has a lot more good games than the PS3 and Wii, I can accept that.

But not from a PS3 fanboy... just because you guys just received the first real good game, it doesn't mean that you guys have a lot of games.

The summer's been extremely dry for 360 and PS3, so most of my time has been on arcade games for xbla and psn. Still playing mlb 08 the Show and Rock Band (360) though, as well as MGS 4.

Are you being a good boy and obeying the devil woman's orders by continuing to play Kart and Brawl until next year? Then again, it's not like you have much choice.

I've actually never even tried MGO because it looked too slow and monotonous in action. The whole confusing fiasco with konami id's and psn id's and blah blah didn't help either.

I've been playing Eden and Siren on the PS3 and I'm about to pick-up Braid on the 360. Been thinking about picking up SC IV too.

I'll pick-up MadWorld for the Wii sometime in 2009...

Not directed at you cc123, just at the usual crew who claim they're too busy playing their great games to care about the Wii's sales, yet apparently not too busy to take time out to throw some flame

Some of us are going to enjoy Wario Land and Animal Crossing, and our pretty good ports of Sonic Unleashed and CoD:W@W, and Samba De Amigo. Why some feel the need to try to make us feel insecure by trying to discredit such enjoyment is beyond me

Sorry, the Wii just doesn't have much going for it right now. After finishing off No More Heroes and My Life as a King, it pretty much stopped. I even unplugged it to keep it from sucking power and that was two months ago. As an attractive person who is also cool, I did buy Strong Bad, but for the PC, where adventure gaming belongs. As good as Zack and Wiki was, the mouse is still better for the classic point and click adventure game.

THAT attitude is what keeps the Electronic Arts mass produced generic game business model profitable and prevents innovations. Whether or not Wario Land is worth $50 (personally, I'm not planning on buying it), a developer CERTAINLY could come up with a modern 2D platform game that is worth $50. People need to stop being graphics whores, games are about FUN not glossy paint jobs.

The last Wii game I bought was Brawl. That was 5 months ago. In the... 6 months I've owned a PS3, I've owned more games for it than I have my Wii since launch.

You want to know what I've played since MGS4? Burst Limit, for one. After that I got Overlord and I just bought Soul Calibur IV Sunday. And I'm a broke mother fucker.

I'm sure he will go wank off to madden, but only if you go wank off to your overpriced 20 year old remake games. Bionic Commando Rearmed isn't $50, Braid isn't $50, and nothing that I've seen from Wario Land justifies a $50 purchase.

From what I remember of the sales it did in Japan the first week it came out, I'm almost positive Siren as well as 10 other games beat down Wario Land. It's just too expensive and I wouldn't be surprised if it tanks like Boom Blox did. I would like to play it, but no way in hell would I pay $50 for what looks like the wario land games for gameboy but remade.

Sales do not matter to me, I was using it as an example of WHY wario land for wii isn't selling well. It's too expensive given what's in the game. It's obvious people like yourself are hurting the industry, because we're just going to get mediocre remake after mediocre remake and they're going to be full price just to add insult to injury.

Actually, if you read the installation instructions, it sounds like you don't need to hack/mod your Wii to get the functionality. It seems to be a fairly simple process.

Nope, still needs to run a .dol file, which requires the twilight hack to run. Just go rent it and put on the homebrew channel, then you won't need TP ever again.
