Mega Man 9 intro elicits uninspired headline
Oh, and did you catch the cute news reader cameo? How about that wascally Dr. Wily's "Swiss Bank" number?

Of all the Mega Man games out there, why did the elect to release number 9? Just curious.
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 13th 2008 8:48PM
What do you mean?
Is the next number in the series.
Megaman 1-6 on NES, 7 on SNES, 8 on PSX and now 9 in WiiWare, Live Arcade and the other.
dark_inchworm @ Aug 13th 2008 8:51PM
This is a BRAND NEW GAME. :)
PSN & GAMERTAG: jorojoserojas - Wii FC: 0749-8609-3752-6926 @ Aug 13th 2008 9:07PM
I've always been curious: Why is the original PlayStation abbreviated as the 'PSX'?
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 13th 2008 9:10PM
Because before it was released, it was known as PlayStation Experimental.
PSN & GAMERTAG: jorojoserojas - Wii FC: 0749-8609-3752-6926 @ Aug 13th 2008 9:11PM
Wow, Fernando. I'm pretty amazed by how much you really know about video games.
Well done! You are harder-core (or hard-corer?) than most other gamers I know.
I am a machineee @ Aug 13th 2008 9:21PM
Oh. I'm not slow, I just didn't get it. I played Mega Man X and X2, for some reason I thought X stood for 10. So I was thinking they were just re-releasing an already released Mega Man 9 special edition, I was curious as you why 9. Now that I understand, this is effin' awesome!
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 13th 2008 9:25PM
Ah ok... now I get your question.
Well, the series (well, the 2D sidescrolling series) can be divided in four main series:
-Megaman
-Megaman X
-Megaman Zero
-Megaman ZX
So, this is a brand new game in the Megaman series.
Ciatrick Leodis McKelvin @ Aug 13th 2008 11:12PM
Fernando Rocker Said:
"now 9 in WiiWare, Live Arcade and the other."
"The Other"
WTF is that about. I am new to this site but is this guy some kind of a Sony hater?
What a maroon
And this Mega Man game looks awesome!
tmacairjordan87 @ Aug 14th 2008 1:06AM
"is this guy some kind of a Sony hater?"
Oh god, you have NO idea how bad he is.....
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 14th 2008 1:12AM
jordan
Just like you are a Nintendo hater.
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Aug 14th 2008 9:55AM
"Oh god, you have NO idea how bad he is....."
Haha, oh man, pot and kettle and such...
tmacairjordan87 @ Aug 14th 2008 3:04PM
My hate is justified given what nintendo is doing to this fine industry. Yours will be too if Sony starts shoveling nothing but high selling garbage out in the future.

Roto13 @ Aug 13th 2008 8:57PM
Uhm... because the last one was number 8? What are you asking, exactly?
j.howlett @ Aug 13th 2008 9:17PM
the same reason 6 is afraid of 7
I am a machineee @ Aug 13th 2008 9:32PM
Sorry, comment posted twice...
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 13th 2008 8:47PM
I can't wait for this game. WiiWare and Live Arcade versions for me.
And Joystiq: Yes, Megaman games are hard, but c'mon. We grow up with the NES playing this series.
At least me personally, I'm sure I can get all the achivements, and I'm sure a lot of us old school gamers will too.
This will be hard, but not that hard.
Ciatrick Leodis McKelvin @ Aug 13th 2008 11:15PM
Just wondering why buy this twice
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 13th 2008 11:25PM
Because I want to get all the achievements on the 360 version.
But I really want to play this game with the remote sideways, like a NES controller. And with the flickering and other bugs enabled from the options menu, it will feel very NESishi.
Ciatrick Leodis McKelvin @ Aug 13th 2008 11:42PM
wow sounds hardcore. I recently modded my PSP which enabled me to install emulators. I am enjoying a few old favorites that are name master blaster and rbi baseball.
dark_inchworm @ Aug 13th 2008 8:50PM
Proof that video games would become even more awesome if technology started going backwards.
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 13th 2008 8:54PM
I just wish that there were 2D platformers games as much as FPS games.
*I hope that sentence makes sense.
dark_inchworm @ Aug 13th 2008 9:49PM
As long as we can weed out the Bubsy games and equivalent dreck, I'm on your side, Fernando.
Vaitork @ Aug 13th 2008 10:07PM
"I just wish that there were 2D platformers games as much as FPS games."
I don't have anything against the ammount of FPS games today, but God knows the gaming world isn't done with 2D platformers.
Yeah, we get it, we can have 3D platformers today. FINE. Now please, can we go back to really fun platformers? (and no, I don't think the newer platformers aren't fun. I simply never had as much fun with Mario 64 as I did back then with SMB3).
That's how I know this new Mega Man will be loved all the way to Portal-loveness.
The Doctor @ Aug 13th 2008 8:58PM
I don't get the joke in the swiss bank number.
Also I hope that there is a major twist and this Wily dude had nothing to do with Light's Robots going crazy.
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 13th 2008 9:01PM
19-871-217 - 1987, December 17
Megaman 1 release date.
Will @ Aug 13th 2008 9:04PM
that's the date of the original Mega Man game's Japanese release (12/17/1987)
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 13th 2008 9:04PM
More than 20 years, and the first Megaman is still an excellent game... the gameplay is still great.
And the music? Still better than the majority of new games.
Arrowned @ Aug 13th 2008 9:05PM
19-871-217 = December 17, 1987, the release date of Mega Man 1 in Japan.
They should make a grown up Kalinka be behind it all this time. I know it makes no sense whatsoever, but it'd be HILARIOUS.
The Doctor @ Aug 13th 2008 9:11PM
Woah, the legendary Fernando replied to one of my posts!
Thanks to Fernando (and everyone else after him) for the answer to my question.
I don't care who is behind it, as long as it is not Mr. series long bad guy who is obviously set up to be the villain in the intro video.
Roto13 @ Aug 13th 2008 8:59PM
This game looks extra charming to oldschool Mega Man fans.
Kyattsuai @ Aug 13th 2008 9:04PM
The "you haven't done this in awhile" line was the best part. That or the NES-style exlposions.
PSN & GAMERTAG: jorojoserojas - Wii FC: 0749-8609-3752-6926 @ Aug 13th 2008 9:09PM
I was TOTALLY waiting for those NESplosions, and I giggled like a schoolgirl when they finally began.
I can't wait for this game.
therpham @ Aug 13th 2008 11:07PM
Yeah, I appreciate that purposeful feeling of "we translated this in ten minutes and didn't have an editor check the English grammar/spelling." So old school!
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 13th 2008 11:32PM
Hey... I did the translation =(
Kyattsuai @ Aug 13th 2008 11:36PM
I liked it not as much because of the translation, but because it's been 12 years since the last Mega Man (hence the extra X in the date, probably).
343 Guilty Fart @ Aug 14th 2008 2:06PM
I love how the sentences are cut off so you have to wait till the next set of lines to come up to finish the sentences. Classic!
nate @ Aug 13th 2008 9:05PM

Perhaps I can help. I think what he meant to say was...
---------------------------
Good day,
I just wanted to inquire about a startling development of mine. Are you aware of the Playstation Home Beta tester program? I have recently come across the Home theme for my Playstation 3, and much to my surprise, my copy of the theme seems to be corrupted.
EGADS!
It appears as a white background with a green-coloured Xross Media Blade. The dubious quirk is that I have never downloaded this theme. It was simply in my inventory.
GREAT SCOTT!
What mysterious witchcraft is this? It would appear that some one other than myself has downloaded this demon magic onto my system. It seems that this comes from http://www.jp.playstation.com/ps3/home truly, this is the work of Satan himself.
EXCLAMATION!
Could this mean that I am the lucky recipient of a Beta ticket?
I humbly await the advice of your most esteemed colleges.
Hugs and kisses,
Nate
---------------------------
That said, no. You just got a bad copy of a theme. If you didn't download it, someone else did. Delete it and try again. The winners aren't going to be announced and notified until the end of the month.
VaultICEE @ Aug 14th 2008 2:35PM
Geez nate, how many times did you repost the exact same thing in different comments?!
oh, and CubeGuy, you sir just won about 9000 internets.
nesfan8222 @ Aug 14th 2008 3:08AM
Chun-Li a news reporter? I guess the live action Street Fighter was an inspiration.
Titanium_Orchid @ Aug 13th 2008 9:06PM
Love that midi.... wait, is it true midi or midi emulation?
AoE @ Aug 13th 2008 9:14PM
midi emulation. Neither the PS3 nor the 360 contain true midi hardware, so it had to be emulated. Unfortunately in both cases, emulation is not 100%. The first SKUs of the PS3 included an actual midi soundchip which made the system 100% compatible with all midi files/sounds, unfortunately it was dropped from later versions of the console as a cost-cutting measure. Which makes some people quite angry as they can't play all their old midis on their new consoles... but both MS and Sony insist that midi playback is mostly just a marketing bullet-point anyhow.
Z80M68k @ Aug 14th 2008 12:36AM
NES doesn't have MIDI, it has PSG.
And I have no idea what your refering to by a "MIDI chip" because FM synth hasn't been used in consoles Gen/Saturn (PSX/N64 didn't have FM, none of the last gen had FM)
j.howlett @ Aug 13th 2008 9:16PM

pat1202003 @ Aug 13th 2008 9:20PM
I like MegaMan and all. And this new game is cool, BUT WHEN IN THE WORLD IS THIS COMING OUT!!! I haven't seen a date or nothing. I just hearing "MegaMan 9 is coming! MegaMan 9 is coming! MegaMan 9 is coming!" WHEN DANGIT WHEN?!?
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 13th 2008 9:22PM
It was confirmed weeks ago. It's going to be released in September.
