Of all the Mega Man games out there, why did the elect to release number 9? Just curious.

What do you mean?

Is the next number in the series.

Megaman 1-6 on NES, 7 on SNES, 8 on PSX and now 9 in WiiWare, Live Arcade and the other.

I've always been curious: Why is the original PlayStation abbreviated as the 'PSX'?

Because before it was released, it was known as PlayStation Experimental.

Wow, Fernando. I'm pretty amazed by how much you really know about video games.

Well done! You are harder-core (or hard-corer?) than most other gamers I know.

Oh. I'm not slow, I just didn't get it. I played Mega Man X and X2, for some reason I thought X stood for 10. So I was thinking they were just re-releasing an already released Mega Man 9 special edition, I was curious as you why 9. Now that I understand, this is effin' awesome!

Ah ok... now I get your question.

Well, the series (well, the 2D sidescrolling series) can be divided in four main series:

-Megaman
-Megaman X
-Megaman Zero
-Megaman ZX

So, this is a brand new game in the Megaman series.

"The Other"

WTF is that about. I am new to this site but is this guy some kind of a Sony hater?

What a maroon

And this Mega Man game looks awesome!

My hate is justified given what nintendo is doing to this fine industry. Yours will be too if Sony starts shoveling nothing but high selling garbage out in the future.

I can't wait for this game. WiiWare and Live Arcade versions for me.

And Joystiq: Yes, Megaman games are hard, but c'mon. We grow up with the NES playing this series.

At least me personally, I'm sure I can get all the achivements, and I'm sure a lot of us old school gamers will too.

This will be hard, but not that hard.

Because I want to get all the achievements on the 360 version.

But I really want to play this game with the remote sideways, like a NES controller. And with the flickering and other bugs enabled from the options menu, it will feel very NESishi.

I don't have anything against the ammount of FPS games today, but God knows the gaming world isn't done with 2D platformers.

Yeah, we get it, we can have 3D platformers today. FINE. Now please, can we go back to really fun platformers? (and no, I don't think the newer platformers aren't fun. I simply never had as much fun with Mario 64 as I did back then with SMB3).

That's how I know this new Mega Man will be loved all the way to Portal-loveness.

More than 20 years, and the first Megaman is still an excellent game... the gameplay is still great.

And the music? Still better than the majority of new games.

19-871-217 = December 17, 1987, the release date of Mega Man 1 in Japan.

They should make a grown up Kalinka be behind it all this time. I know it makes no sense whatsoever, but it'd be HILARIOUS.

Thanks to Fernando (and everyone else after him) for the answer to my question.

I don't care who is behind it, as long as it is not Mr. series long bad guy who is obviously set up to be the villain in the intro video.

The "you haven't done this in awhile" line was the best part. That or the NES-style exlposions.

I liked it not as much because of the translation, but because it's been 12 years since the last Mega Man (hence the extra X in the date, probably).

Perhaps I can help. I think what he meant to say was...

---------------------------

Good day,

I just wanted to inquire about a startling development of mine. Are you aware of the Playstation Home Beta tester program? I have recently come across the Home theme for my Playstation 3, and much to my surprise, my copy of the theme seems to be corrupted.

EGADS!

It appears as a white background with a green-coloured Xross Media Blade. The dubious quirk is that I have never downloaded this theme. It was simply in my inventory.

GREAT SCOTT!

What mysterious witchcraft is this? It would appear that some one other than myself has downloaded this demon magic onto my system. It seems that this comes from http://www.jp.playstation.com/ps3/home truly, this is the work of Satan himself.

EXCLAMATION!

Could this mean that I am the lucky recipient of a Beta ticket?

I humbly await the advice of your most esteemed colleges.

Hugs and kisses,
Nate

---------------------------

That said, no. You just got a bad copy of a theme. If you didn't download it, someone else did. Delete it and try again. The winners aren't going to be announced and notified until the end of the month.

midi emulation. Neither the PS3 nor the 360 contain true midi hardware, so it had to be emulated. Unfortunately in both cases, emulation is not 100%. The first SKUs of the PS3 included an actual midi soundchip which made the system 100% compatible with all midi files/sounds, unfortunately it was dropped from later versions of the console as a cost-cutting measure. Which makes some people quite angry as they can't play all their old midis on their new consoles... but both MS and Sony insist that midi playback is mostly just a marketing bullet-point anyhow.

NES doesn't have MIDI, it has PSG.

And I have no idea what your refering to by a "MIDI chip" because FM synth hasn't been used in consoles Gen/Saturn (PSX/N64 didn't have FM, none of the last gen had FM)
