In what could be the sign of the start of a really interesting paradigm shift in the industry, EA announced that its smash-em-up driving hit Burnout Paradise will be arriving on PSN this fall for $29.99. Those are pretty much all the details available right now, but we can't help but be captivated by the possibilities.
Is this going to be a new trend, offering up titles via PSN that have lost some of their retail luster? Because, honestly, we've braved numerous excursions outside of our living rooms, and anything we can do to keep those to an absolute minimum is truly appreciated.
Oh, and GameStop? This is how it begins.

Wow...even though I'd rather have a disc copy...this is still good news. And with all the Free DLC they keep adding...people are going to HAVE to purchase this game.
And at half price? It's a steal.
Oh, and BTW, the last line is gold.

Seriously, best article zinger all day.
Gamestop should watch out. Give Microsoft time and they'll figure out a way to start selling games via Live BESIDES just originals and Arcade games.
...And I wouldn't be surprised if EA made some deal with Valve to get Steam working for certain devices. Downloadable Orange Box anyone?
I'd KILL for that.

Is it true that GameStop sells used games as new? Because I haven't had any problems until recently when I bought a game new and the disc looked used.

Yes, Nick. It's common practice for GameStop stores to "check-out" games to employees and then turn around and sell them as new. I've heard plenty of stories of people buying "New" DS games with save files on them.
Overall, I think the download thing is a good idea as long as they keep the price really low. Also, if this is the way things are going, Sony needs to let us create folders in the XMB to categorize our downloaded games.

While PC games have been doing this for a long time. This is the first full fledged console game I've heard of doing this. While I enjoy having physical copies of games. I still hope this becomes a trend for developers. I'll be needing a bigger hard drive though! :D

What about SIREN: Blood Curse/New Translation? While it is only being released via PSN in North America, both Europe and Japan have Blu-ray versions of it, too.

I've been waiting to buy this game, especially now that it's down to $30. Microsoft needs to jump on this trend. I'm guessing that the fall update's 'rip game to disc' ability is the first step.

This game is a such a ridiculous deal. It was well worth it at $60. At $30 (current price) its up for deal of the year.

Well, eventually I'll be able to buy it used for $15 and get a disc/box/instructions. Not sure how this is a great deal.

I was considering getting this game, but not having to deal with discs is great. I'll wait for the PSN download and get it that way.

I can't imagine EA not presenting this [to Microsoft] as an option for XBLA as well. We're already seen full fledged Xbox games appear on Live, why not brand new games?
Digital distribution... I don't think it's a matter of IF, I think it's just a matter of WHEN.

it's because of microsoft's imposed size limit. They made a minor exception with the Street Fighter HD, but this one would be way too big. Kinda shooting themselves in the foot there I would say.

You can fit a whole 3 games on a Xbox360 premium, before you have to pay Microsoft megabucks for a HDD upgrade, which then allows you to install perhaps 12 games maximum...
What a con. I don't care, my PS3 has a 300GB HDD in there, and I will move to a bigger one once the tech allows and price has dropped...
360 is for losers who enjoy shopping at gamestop..

Between whatever this will be in size (it's likely going to be huge) and the 9 GB from Siren, my 60 GB would cry if I got those games.

Blu ray propaganda? A multiplatform game can only be as big as the 360 allows it to, so the devs can only fit I believe 8GB. It has nothing to do with sony lying about blu ray, the devs had to fit their game on a maximum of 8GB and what they came with was well along those lines.
If 360 had equal storage we'd see most games probably in the 30GB range. No one's going to work harder and put more stuff in one version than another if they both come out at the same time.

I meant to add the same goes with the PC, which Unreal Tournament 3 also came out on the same time as PS3. There's no PC game that I'm aware of that is 50GB in size, so the devs had to work with a similar situation as the 360.

It's a multiplatform release which means to make it work on 360, the game had to be under 6.5GBs. BluRay means dick in multiconsole releases... or as the intelligent would say "All BluRay means is if 360 got Siren, it would be a two disc game."

Totally freakin' brilliant. They can have it on the Playstation store for free, without having to ship it to resellers, and it'll be within reach of most of the owners of the system it runs on. I might be too lazy to go get it from the store, and I might not see it in the back of the discount section, but if it's sitting there on the PSN I may well take a look.
And personally, I love downloadable games. I almost never sell games anyway, so not having a disk is just a bonus.
