We were a bit caught up in Braid hysteria earlier this week, so we thought we'd table this post until the scalding heat of our passion cooled down a little bit ...
And here we are! Braid artist David Hellman tipped us off to a pair of adorable Braid-themed papercraft projects depicting the game's time-manipulating hero Tim and his ubiquitous foe ... uh, Creature thing. Print out one of Tim, thirty of the Creature, figure out how to control the immutable march of time, then reenact all your favorite scenes.
[Thanks, David]

I was worried you wouldn't get your daily Braid news in today. Good job. Tomorrow: JONATHAN BLOW EATS BREAKFAST!

But to be honest, this Tim papercraft is way more interesting than the article about the shorter demo, or when he spoke about the Space Giraffe creator.
So this is worth it, but like you know... it was overkill.

Tomorrow someone posts a post about Jonathan Blow doing something mundane.
Can we make this cyclic?

No, the only thing worse than nonstop Braid updates are the weekly "GUISE, GO CHECK OUT HIS VIDEO REVIEWS" posts. If I want to know what Yahtzee's up to, I'll read the fucking Escapist.

I wouldn't avoid the game for the art style/character design (I am not a fan either and each enemy seems to be drawn by a different artist). The game is pretty clever though.
Off topic: One of the major review outlets said that it was in a fauvist style and that made the art snob in me douche-chill.

Sounds like a website that would be totally unrelated to gaming and more related to...pr0....ermm...the mundane daily activities of nobody special.

I have to admit that they are cute. But I am also just a fan of papercraft'd things.

...Though it just occurred to me that this is the only papercraft I've seen on Joystiq. Moar, plz! There's tons of awesome papercraft projects out there for old AND new games. Yeah, yeah, you guys already know I want to see more craft stuff here. :)

Someone must have been sleeping when all that was happening because you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. I remember the 2 weeks before GTA 4 vividly and remember all the bitching about 8 gta articles a day.

I finished Braid last night and I don't understand the hype.
While I appreciate the gameplay mechanic, a lot of it felt very random (much like clicking on everything back in the point and click adventure days). Rewind, fail, rewind, fail, rewind, fail, rewind, success!
The writing could of used an editor as it came across as if it was simply written by a nerd with a thesaurus.
Story wise, I expected more. It left me flat and unaffected, even with the clever twist.
I honestly thin it should have been priced at $8. I grabbed a bunch of the $20 cards for $15 from Target so I guess I can console myself that I only payed $10 for it.

So does joystiq think it helps Braid with this just a TAD too obvious overexposure or are they using reverse psychology to destroy any further game sales? No offense, but it's kind of natural that if you get something force fed every damn day, you start to hate it even if you liked its taste something mad when you first tried it
If a PC demo comes around I'm sure to try it, but in a way all this overhype made me more wary of the game than be convinced it's a no-brainer to buy.

I feel sorry for you if other people's opinion of something actually taints it for you!
If your own personal tastes are so easily swayed how can you trust your own opinion? Do you even have an opinion?
I've agreed/disagreed plenty with Joystiq/Yahtzee etc, but their overexposure/over criticism has never affected me because y'know...... I think for myself.

I quite think for myself, don't you worry. That is exactly the reason why I'm more wary now. Because I don't take a uniform agreement on the part of gaming media, that Braid is a masterpiece, as my own opinion, but keep the verdict for when I actually tried it myself.
All this overcoverage just gives me a creeping feeling this might be like a Matrix or 300. Everyone and their goddamn grandma loves it for being oh so innovative and artsy and generally accepted as cool and hip, while it's really nothing special at all.
So maybe you might want to go a bit easy on the trigger of that you-are-such-a-tool-gun™ instead of ripping people to shreds if you don't even know them any better than from a comment which wasn't even near hivemind territory.

Im with a few of you on here. I don't really understand where all the hype is coming from. Is it just because they are trying to give the ol' bump to an indie game? Playing it for a little bit left me bored to tears and I love puzzle games (ICO). The character design as Phobic99 said was lackluster at best, along with a game mechanic that has been used several times. People act as if this is THE saving grace of video games. Its not, not even close. A mediocre game for people who want to believe it is the best thing out there.

Dear Joystiq,
I suggest you please forgive your fellow 'stiq-ers for holding a gun to their heads and forcing them to read braid. In doing so you have caused the comments sections to be flooded with urgent complains and cries to stop this madness and it has made it hard to seek out other comments related to the subject by those, like myself, who aren't being held at gun-point to read it. A very good example is that the other day I saw a post of a problem with the game's bugs and I felt so excited to discuss the bugs with others but these fellows u have tortured so they left no room for actual discussion and my excitement quickly died. As you can see, you forcing us to read these posts on this site you also force us to go to has deprived us of happiness and I demand an apology! Especially to those who understand that you guys are excited and about this game and just want to share more info with others who are too, and also know that its a popular game and that there are more people seeking info on this game than others.
ok on a more serious note, all these people complaining are bothering me, if they dont like it they can choose not to read so people who actually want to discuss these matters can. Maybe, Joystiq staff if u are reading this, you can make a wedpage, like your fanboy pages, dedicated to news of popular games? as in if u are going to give a specific game lots of news on this may i suggest give joystiq one or two articles, and that other sub-site the rest? :)

Joystiq knows that if they post a Braid story, they'll get lots of page views.
Don't blame them for giving their audience what they want, although these daily updates are getting a bit tiresome. ;)

glitter I'm not criticising you for going against the grain by any means, I'm saying it shouldn't matter.
Ripping to shreds? Trigger happy? Don't take it so personally! I'm just making a comment about why it's so not important whether something is elevated to Matrix, 300, Halo 3 etc status.
"Wary"? "Creeping feeling"? Why does the mass praise creep you out?
I thought it was pretty good. Not the best puzzle game but the genre has been flailing for years now (I didn't care much for Portal at all) and the story/ending gave me something I wasn't expecting.
So in an attempt to steer back towards topic my conclusion is I'm gonna print out that little Tim and make it shove my friend's companion cube plushie up his arse. :D

Here's an idea for everyone who has a bitch fit over every Braid article:
Stop clicking them.
If no one wants to click on Braid articles they can only post so many times before they will have to stop due to no one giving a shit.
But still, why shouldn't Braid get a lot of coverage? It is a great game and the guy who made it has some interesting things to say if you care about his game.

It's like schoolchildren with a Team Dream lunchbox. But no matter how dreamy you find his faintly girlish looks, Lucy, he still can't act. And Braid's still a shitty game.
