Spore (finally!) evolves into Gold status
Calling all gamers, non-gamers and militant atheists alike, Will Wright's years-in-the-making "Sim Everything" Spore has passed through its cell, tribal and civilization phases and has gone gold. The game is set to make its previously announced PC and Mac release date of September 5 for North America and September 7 for Europe. We now look forward to breaking even more Sporepedia milestones in our quest to collectively become 84% God. In the meantime check out our exhaustive Spore Q&A with Maxis Producer Thomas Vu from last month's E3.
Fun fact: Spore's original release date was Fall 2006.

Militant atheists sure have a tough decision ahead of them. Boycott a game because it includes religion or buy the game to try and prove that man is better than God?
I do not envy them.
Aaron @ Aug 14th 2008 1:53PM
I don't know of any atheists who would boycott the game because it includes religion. Civilization includes religion, and I have never heard one person complain.
Secondly, why would I need to prove I am better than something that I don't believe exists?
Anam @ Aug 14th 2008 2:00PM
I don't know...because it would start an argument? That's my reason for everything I do.
Jack of No Trades 85 @ Aug 14th 2008 2:06PM
I wasn't going to say anything about that, but since you did.....
Last time I checked it was man that built my house, it was man the made my food, it was man the protects my family in war, it is man that gives money to the poor, it is man that made up the story's in the bible that people to this day still follow, it was man that created the science and understanding of the world around us, it was man that allowed you to comment on this site.
Stop being a sheep to something you unable to see you religious elitist butthole.
Have you seen what god has done? Nope, sorry im agnostic.
Dr Scientist @ Aug 14th 2008 2:39PM
Is it also being boycotted because it includes 'evolution'?
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 14th 2008 2:11PM
And it was God who created man.
Anam @ Aug 14th 2008 2:12PM
And Miyamoto who created God. Am I right, Fernando?
Jack of No Trades 85 @ Aug 14th 2008 2:14PM
You knew this would start a spark lol
Oh, also I believe in the Easter bunny, Santa Clause, all of the Harry Potter, all of the Lord of the Rings people, & all of the TMNT's. They are in a book so they must be real, we just can't see them.
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 14th 2008 2:15PM
No Anam, sorry. I don't say that kind of things or anything offensive to God. Not even to make a little joke.
"it is man that made up the story's in the bible"
The Bible is the inspired words of God. The Holy Spirit was the one writing the Bible truh man.
Anam @ Aug 14th 2008 2:18PM
Fair enough, Fernando. Didn't mean to offend.
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 14th 2008 2:19PM
No problem =p
Jack of No Trades 85 @ Aug 14th 2008 2:19PM
@ Fernando
So the Harry Potter books must be real too right? People never lie, do they Fernando?
Well I think Mythology is real. Zues is the one that makes it rain, thunder & lightning.
Aaron @ Aug 14th 2008 2:24PM
But the Koran is also the inspired word of god (or so says Mohammed). As an objective person, I have yet to hear a good explanation as to why I should believe one inspired word of god over another, contradictory, inspired word of god.
rv @ Aug 14th 2008 2:34PM
The notion of blind faith without thought towards anything is completely stupid. Thats all I will say on the subject.
Blazur @ Aug 14th 2008 2:34PM
Hey Fernando...what about all the people who believe in a religion that's different from yours? Are they all going to hell?
Anam @ Aug 14th 2008 2:37PM
Hmm... fire's dying. Better tend to it.
No, you don't know jack, Jack. Don't cross Jesus 'cause he died on a cross. Holy spirit is gonna tear a hole in your spirit if you don't show some spirit to the holy!
...that should do it.
FOXHOUND @ Aug 14th 2008 2:54PM
LOL
This is like that "Bible Fruit" episode of AQUA TEEN HUNGER FORCE.
"No crack for me. No beating my fiance. No strangling drifters for sex. NO! No more. 'cause Jesus... lives in my heart."

I too am an atheist, the most annoying thing in the world to me is someone who tries to push religion on me. I grew up in the south and went to a private episcopal school. I have had the bible shoved down my throat so many times that i know it better than most of my christian friends. But I've always been proud that atheists aren't really known for trying to change other peoples minds. if they want to believe let them believe, a game blog is probably one of the worst places to show everyone your hate for religion.

The way i figure it: Somebody had to flick on the big bang
Also: Some of the people in the Bible (and in other faiths) probably had some divine connection, but nothing can be conclusively proven or disproven after many thousands of years and everyone trying to twist the faith to support infinite political agendas.
Phillip @ Aug 14th 2008 3:22PM
Here we go aga-- oh-- Oh, it's already well underway.
Darn, my feed reader doesn't update fast enough.
Anam @ Aug 14th 2008 3:28PM
Yes, here we go again, Phillip. Behold the creature I have unleashed! BWAHAHAHAHA!
Abuzar Baloach @ Aug 14th 2008 4:10PM
Aaron, I wanted to clear something up. According to us Muslims the Quran was NOT inspired by the word of God, but it IS the word of God. Big difference there.
mr mobius @ Aug 14th 2008 5:55PM
I hate someone who pushes their religion on me as well. Thats why I hate quite a few athiests. I get bombarded by athiests who try and justify their faith. If they aren't my friend then a lot of them tend to try and force their belief on me.
Aaron @ Aug 14th 2008 5:56PM
@Abuzar Baloach:
To someone like myself, there is no difference as I do not believe god exists. Even so, it makes no difference whether a holy book is claimed to be an inspired word of god, or if it is claimed to be the actual word of god. There is no reason to believe one religion over another, and religious belief is almost entirely based on who your parents are and not based on deductive reasoning.
Abuzar Baloach @ Aug 14th 2008 7:14PM
Yeah, say that to the dozens of converts at our Masjid. I don't see them following Islam because it was the religion of their parents.
People research religions, and they find what they consider the Truth. It's not 'blind faith', at least from what I have seen at my Masjid.
Aaron @ Aug 14th 2008 8:18PM
@Abuzar Baloach:
Are you honestly trying to suggest that most people are religious because they do their research and decide that one religion is more truthful than another, and it has *nothing* to do with religion being force on them as a child?
That is simply absurd. Many people convert to religions for various reasons. I think the biggest reasons are either they are at vulnerable times in their lives (i.e. recovering from drug addiction or depression) or through marriage. Very few (if any) people just wake up one day and decide to join a religion because it's not a rational thing to do. Also keep in mind that many people convert away from religions as well. But the vast, vast majority of religious people did not choose their religion, they were born into it. And this can be proven in two ways. The first is just the geographical distribution of religions. Second, just observe religious people and you will see that most Christians have Christian parents, most Muslims have Muslim parents, and so on.
You can pretend all you want, but the facts tell a different story.
colin @ Aug 15th 2008 7:56PM
I'm a rational humanist. I am a spiritual agnostic. People say that God is a part of all of us and I agree with that. I may not think of God in the same way as them, but I think there is something special that humans have and exude that isn't found anywhere else in nature. Religion, Philosophy, Medicine ... they are all truly amazing things created by brilliant minds that are proof enough that we are here for a reason.
"A knowledge of the existence of something we cannot penetrate, of the manifestations of the profoundest reason and the most radiant beauty - it is this knowledge and this emotion that constitute the truly religious attitude; in this sense, and in this alone, I am a deeply religious man." (Albert Einstein)
"I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it." (Albert Einstein)
The_Punisher @ Aug 14th 2008 1:50PM
Not os interested anymore. My interest had faded in the 50 years it took to make it.
Jonah Falcon @ Aug 14th 2008 3:36PM
Yeah, Half-Life suffered after 7 years of development, and Half-Life 2 after 6 years.
Spore's only been in development for 4 years, announced 3 years ago.
(rolls eyes)
The_Punisher @ Aug 14th 2008 4:52PM
Please don't compare Half-Life to Spore. You're embarassing yourself.
Jonah Falcon @ Aug 14th 2008 6:37PM
Yeah. Spore is going to outsell both titles alone.
Just wondering - what bridge do you live under?
The_Punisher @ Aug 14th 2008 7:54PM
Not sure where you've been, but uh....no it won't?
Pirates = Spore fails
It's also lost my money now that there are so many better games this holiday. I'll get it eventually....maybe buy it when it comes bundled with the eventual expansion pack.
Psaakyrn @ Aug 15th 2008 12:24AM
You logic fails because pirates pirate EVERYTHING, not just Spore.
Shagittarius @ Aug 14th 2008 1:55PM
Soon my penis monster army will rule the universe!
Muahahahahahahaha!
Zertoss @ Aug 14th 2008 2:03PM

Shmil @ Aug 14th 2008 9:12PM
the dreaded candiru?
deadjesterx @ Aug 14th 2008 1:59PM
Finally. I got something to look forward to once September rolls around. 'Till then I have to keep myself entertained with XBLA titles and TF2.
I still have Ninja Gaiden 2 that I have yet to try, but since the update broke the game I've been afraid to put it into my 360. :\
Hello! @ Aug 14th 2008 2:09PM
thanks for keeping me posted.
MC Double Def DP @ Aug 14th 2008 2:05PM
we need some more vag creatures.
Superstar90 @ Aug 14th 2008 5:29PM
no we need one giant one that can fit all the smaller penis creatures
Laurens Blei @ Aug 14th 2008 2:07PM
Actually, it is September 5th for EUROPE and September 7th for the US, not the otherway around.
Anam @ Aug 14th 2008 2:24PM
WHAT?! *Explodes*
Jonah Falcon @ Aug 14th 2008 3:37PM
Yes. The reason given is that Europeans like PC games much more than videogame-centric Americans.
Jack of No Trades 85 @ Aug 14th 2008 2:16PM
@Fernando
Prove it!
I can prove and guarentee man did all of those things I mentioned.
Shmil @ Aug 14th 2008 3:47PM
the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence
Kevin @ Aug 14th 2008 3:50PM
@Jack
While you don't believe in other people's religion, you should not push your own religion of atheism on others. First of all, this is neither the time nor place for a religious war. Secondly, morals are among the things brought with religion, and if more people believed in having to own up to their actions after they died, there would be less crime. That is why the United States' founding fathers embedded the freedom of religion in the constitution and the "In God we trust" phrase on the coinage. With over 90% of people believing in a higher being (probably most at that point), they knew that there would be some sense of accountability. Now, let's end this debate of religion and focus on the real miracle here of Spore finally going gold!
