Despite the fact that Sony has previously listed LittleBigPlanet as a disc-only affair, there continue to be doubters. The crew at Bits Bytes Pixels Sprites decided to end any debate as to whether or not LBP would be a BD and/or PSN release. Being in the northern bit of North America, it rang up Sony's Canadian PR crew, who replied that "The game will be available at retail. The user [generated] content will be available on the PSN." Okay, Canada's covered.
We got in touch with LBP's US PR manager, Scott Goryl, who had this to say: "LittleBigPlanet is a Blu-ray Disc product exclusively for PS3," adding, "LBP will utilize much of PlayStation Network's vast functionality for online and community features, but the game will indeed be distributed as a Blu-ray Disc." Sorry folks, but you'll totally, absolutely, definitely have to tack on the price of gas to that $59.99 as you trudge down to one of those old-fashioned "game stores" to pick it up.

I don't care. SOMEONE will take my money, and that someone will give me my Little Big Planet.
And all will be right with the world.

as pointed out before is a specific brand, so, maybe you should read something before complaining.

I always thought of this as a PSN title. But I guess this works out better, if the game sucks I can just sell it back.

They indeed did say that, but as time went on it became more and more unlikely; for whatever reason. Personally I think it'll make an appearance on PSN 6-12 months after the BD release (think Burnout Paradise). This tactic gives retail stores a chance to get as many sales as possible while allowing Sony to severely cutback production after the initial wave of crazy.

I was operating under the assumption that this would be a $15-25 dollar PSN affair. $60 for a disc-based platformer? The core game had better have a lot of professionally-generated content to merit that kind of price. I can't see buying this for the privilege of sifting through user-generated crap if the core game isn't very long.

$40 is still too much for me. $25 is stretching the upper bounds of credibility for what I've seen from this game.

Is 50 levels long enough for you? Not to mention all of the usergenerated including your own levels.

50 levels that are five minutes a piece = 250 minutes = just over four hours, so, no that is not worth $60 -- not even close. Not that they're five minutes a piece, but "50 levels" isn't descriptive enough for me. I want to hear about core game playtime numbers.
As for "user generated content", if it wasn't clear, I'm hardly interested. IF there are featured levels that have been playtested and are reviewed well I might check it out, assuming the core game platforming mechanic is actually fun, anyway. However, I won't buy a short game with the promise of "user generated content" because... well... look at yotube. Ever try just browsing on yotube? It's terrible, 99% of it is pure dreck. The rest is linked from blog networks/email/IRC/etc. Even youtube's "find good content fast" mechanic isn't enough for me to just sit down and browse it.
Look at a game like N+, which was $10 or $15 and has a metric crapton of levels packaged in -- most of which are astoundingly hard. I've dumped 15+ hours into N+ and I'm not done with it. That is value in gaming to me.

Just curious...
If you're not interested in user-generated content...why would you be interested in LBP at all?
Seems like that is its' main focus.

If they nail the platforming, I would buy it (not for 60, though) without user-generated content. A 15$ good platformer with 50 levels is very worth it.
But I like user generated content, and a level editor in games makes it so much more fun for me. I'm currently obsessed with the Bangai-O Spirits level editor.

The dev made levels vary from 5-10 minutes to 20-25 minutes.
http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=38023
If we take an average of 15 minutes and times that by 50, we get 750 minutes (or 12.5 hours).
Of course, it won't be evenly spread, and 12 and half hours sounds a little high to me. Still, we're probably looking at plenty of playtime on the premade levels.
And don't forget that you have co-op as well, so you can replay those 50 levels with up to three friends at a time.
And then we go into user created levels. Lots of potential there. The rating system will hopefully help make finding decent and origional levels easy.
And of course many people will spend hours making levels of their own. I know I will. =)

If the core focus is making someone else do all the work to make the game fun, then it shouldn't be more than $15.

@LaughingTarget - There's an even greater focus on letting *you* create whatever *you* would like to - not just what other create.
I do hope this game follows the route Banjo Kazooie will be taking in releasing at $40. Both are shaping up to be great platformers with an almost unprecedented level of freedom and creativity.

Good. Call me old fashioned, but something's always bugged me about what they're doing with games like Warhawk and SOCOM Confrontation, but those games have another flaw that bugged me, being online-only and all
I don't know, i like the idea of my retail games being retail games, and my downloadable games being downloadable games. Something i can't quite describe irks me about the two mixing.

Wait, this is a disc game? I thought it was PSN the whole time. Can someone say, "Not worth it?" No more than $40, should this ever even considered being priced - I'd lean towards $30.

If you didn't know enough about it to know that it would be available on discs too, then you clearly don't know enough about it to assess it's value (especially considering you've never even played it). I don't think you're giving it a fair chance, but, meh, everyone has their opinions.

It's because people see a 2D platformer and immediatly assume it is lacking in content. Not to mention that the devs have been putting so much focus on user-created content, it leaves the people who don't actually know much about the game to believe that there is very little content on the disc. Does anyone remember CoD4? 6 hour campaign, but endless replay value due to its multiplayer. No one thought twice about the price. Somehow people forget that platformers can be as fun or more fun than FPS's and that user-created content can add as much replay value as a full-fledged multiplayer mode.
