Despite the fact that Sony has previously listed LittleBigPlanet as a disc-only affair, there continue to be doubters. The crew at Bits Bytes Pixels Sprites decided to end any debate as to whether or not LBP would be a BD and/or PSN release. Being in the northern bit of North America, it rang up Sony's Canadian PR crew, who replied that "The game will be available at retail. The user [generated] content will be available on the PSN." Okay, Canada's covered.
We got in touch with LBP's US PR manager, Scott Goryl, who had this to say: "LittleBigPlanet is a Blu-ray Disc product exclusively for PS3," adding, "LBP will utilize much of PlayStation Network's vast functionality for online and community features, but the game will indeed be distributed as a Blu-ray Disc." Sorry folks, but you'll totally, absolutely, definitely have to tack on the price of gas to that $59.99 as you trudge down to one of those old-fashioned "game stores" to pick it up.

Frankly, nothing I've seen from this game tells me "I'm worth $60" and I think others just feel the same. Platformer with a level editor? Okay, I've played a lot of those (some very good) and never paid $60 for the privilege, that's for damn sure.
To the guy who said "new content every week": anyone have a link to press on this saying that new *professionally developed* content will see a weekly release, or even that high quality featured user content will get weekly updates? I don't remember hearing this but I haven't followed the game that closely.

obviously they are gonna release more official stuff over the network, they poured their heart and soul into making this game the best it could be, they aren't gonna quit supporting it like it's not a big deal. should be a given. also give credit to the gamer community, there are a lot of great fan made complete games, i trust there will be plenty of good levels.
also you need to stop being so anal about play time and money conversion methods, just take a risk and if you don't like it, return it.

i say to you and others who feel similar don't buy it. you seem to be trying really hard not to like it. with the type of game they're trying to put out i'd rather it do modestly with people who are excited and positive about the experience than sell to a ton of people who'll put it on the clock, put it in a line up, falsely accuse it, tell it to drop it's pants, turn it's head and cough, then tell it to entertain them.

I don't understand the logic behind all your complaining about the price. Is it that any side scroller can only ever be possibly a downloadable game and not worth full retail... and if so, why exactly? If it has just as much content PLUS the amount of free new content you will be getting, I really see no reason to complain. I don't even have a PS3 but if I did I would definitely get it.
It seems worth more than any FPS sequel.

Can someone explain to me what is so big about LBP. How is it any different than GMOD?
Posted: Aug 15th 2008 8:55PM iHavePants said
Gmod didn't create any of its own content or engine.

GMOD can do exactly the same, in 3D, for less money.

I am very interested in content which is good and easy to find no matter who it's from. The problem for me is in the finding, which I am unwilling to devote time to. :)
I am interested (or was, maybe) because I have an immense soft spot for platformers of all sorts and I actually want an excuse to pick up a PS3 just to complete the 'ol console collection. I do realize that it's weird to say I'd pay $400 for a PS3 but want to quibble over $20 vs. $60 for LBP, but at that point I feel like it's become a matter of principal for me and, frankly, I'm pretty odd anyway. :)

Ehh. I'll probably get this after a major price drop. Are user levels really exciting to everyone else? PC games have been doing it for years. And on a much bigger and better level than this is hyped to. 60$ is a lot for a side-scroller.

This needs a TF2 shop to make the image even better, I thought that's what it was at first.
P.S. I'm surprised Samfish hasn't commented on the cuteness of the SackGirls.

Are some of you people really that fucking dense?! It's one of biggest releases for Sony and you think they're going to not have retail presence to the max?
As convenient as downloadable games are, you have to admit that they just don't get that much marketing by the gaming press (except for Brain, of course).

GOOD! I prefer games on disk - I can loan and share them with friends. There's been several occasions where I've wanted to show a friend a game or borrow a game and couldn't because its a download. And if a game isn't worth full price, I can wait and buy it later at a discount or used, and I can sell a game when my friends and I are finished with it.

LBP is worth 60 US dollars for many reasons. But just to make people aware, they delayed it for more than a year to improve the game, add more features, add more content, etc etc etc. So complaining "omfg, 60? no way" Then you can wait for 2 years till it drops to 40 or 30, or wait 6 months and buy it Used for 45-50ish. Good luck.
LBP is worth every penny. =)
