Fable 2 Pub Games exploit will make you very, very rich
84
Let this be a lesson to developers: If you're planning to make a tie-in XBLA game that lets you earn gold in your main title, make sure to vet the game as much as possible for potential exploits. A trick has been found in Fable 2 Pub Games that lets you bet 60 on Tower of Fortune and potentially earn 600 each time. We've embedded the video after the break, should you wish to start Fable 2 with a gazillion trillion gold.

It was bound to happen. The games suck anyway.

Yes, preorders will get you the code, but that's pathetic. Why should we have to pay at all for three crappy spin-offs of casino games just to earn money in a game? That's pathetic!
They're almost forcing you to pay real money (if you don't preorder) just to have in-game money. If i wanted to play World of Warcraft, i would have.

They are clever games, at least from a gambling standpoint (besides the spinner box, thats just lame).
The problem is that without anything on the line its just boring. Half the fun of craps is making money, and being with a crowd of people all rooting for the shooter (usually if its a hot roll everyone is making some money). I could see keystone being in an actual casino.

Dude, where can you pre-order for free? Please, do tell. And just because I don't agree with you and your interests doesn't make me a troll. I simply don't like the idea of pre-emptive loot (gold), I like to fight. For my right. To Paaaaartaaay.

I take it noone here follows the fable updates regularly... started the game with large sums of gold causes you to have disadvantages such as being weaker.
This would basically mean that people that start the game with a retarded amount of gold will be
1. Weaker
2. May look ugly
3. Even if they buy expensive weapons, due to not being skilled with them will not do as much damage

I don't understand the appeal to starting off the game with tons of gold. If I wanted to play an action/adventure game without any challenge involved then I would pick up a recent Zelda title.

Ohh! Snap! But I agree, it's like a cheat code that you have to pay for, plus I find loot grinding half the fun.

If I remember right, all you have to do is reserve the game and they'll give you some kinda code to download the games... maybe I'm wrong...

I'm of the opposite variety, I hate challenging games and most of the time I'm just in it for the storyline. So anything that stands between me and it (especially puzzles that make you think too much) I get frustrated of pretty easily. Gamefaqs is basically my best friend.
My bro on the other hand is the exact opposite. He'll turn on the hardest dificulty and die over and over and over for reasons I'll never understand.

@ The_Punisher, If you don't want to pre-order then just pick the game up when it's available and you'll find the pub games on the disc.

all you had to do in fable one was tip the economy in your favor. Buy all of item x then the shop owner really wants item x so sell it all back at the higher price.

This is all part of what makes Fable 2 the greatest game ever, according to Peter Molyneux.

If you want to start the game with a ridiculous amount of money, why not? It just gives you more freedom. One of the things I hated most about Oblivion was how restricted it was, considering it was supposed to be a completely open/free game, the amount of restritcions it placed on you was just ludicrous.
I prefer Molyneux's strategy. It doesn't matter if it breaks the game, so long as it's fun.
The people who are doing this obviously WANT to cheat, so why stop them?

So I see someone didn't used the gold glitch in Oblivion eh.
The truth is that RPGs take to much time and If I can get the best stuff from the begining (You know all those weapons that tease you from the begining with prices that no newbie could ever pay) then so be it.
I hated when I saw in a store a quick ass sword that was over 9000 pieces of gold when at much I made 100 from quests.

That's why I was the archer the whole game. I had to aim. So every time some one said it was boring I never understood. I've played through the game again and I was an archer again... So just choose a class that makes the game more fun.

Hey, I'd just like to note that it was me who made the video in this post. I'd also like to note that I put an annotation at 45 seconds in the video that says 60-600 was an example that I used in the video because I didn't have the 150-1500 table yet.
You can in fact bet 150 and make 1,500.

actually this works on any of them that have different bet levels even the 15-30. so you can use this to get to the higher ones. it also gives you the points as if you were betting the higher amount so you up your gambler rating faster.

I wonder how many of the folks using this exploit will be complaining about how Fable 2 sucked after they were able to buy everything in the entire game on the first day.

yeah, but also in the story you DON'T start out with your gambling winnings from pub games. That's a bit later in the game when you've got freedom to do as you like in the world. So don't worry, even if you're a millionaire in pub games, you'll still be a pauper when you start the game!

You don't want to buy a game about a poor kid... because you have the option to exploit an optional side quest which allows you to get money later on in the game... which you do not have to do.
Please tell me that what a joke. I seriously can't comprehend all the idiocy of that statement otherwise.

@Cranium
Or, you know, the sentence could have been written with proper grammar.
The way it was written entirely implies that he was saying he wasn't going to buy the game, not the pub games.
"i will do my $60 justice by not buying this" implies he's talking about not spending $60, not that he isn't spending $10, which would mean he isn't buying the game, not the pub games.
Reading comprehension is part of basic english. If you assumed he meant the pub games and not the game, you did just that - you assumed. I looked at the factual part of the statement.

@MikeO. Just to clarify something totally unrelated to the real issue...
He says, "this" without ever discussing the game, so he is referring to the pub games. Had he said "it," he would be referring to the $60. Granted, both assumptions, but in context (and proper grammar rules), yours is wrong. Otherwise, valid statement, that would be a stupid reason to not buy a game.

"A trick has been found in Fable 2 Pub Games that lets you bet 60 on Tower of Fortune and potentially earn 600 each time."
Hate to rain on your parade there Ross, but that's not what the video shows at all. It's a trick where you actually bet 60, but the game thinks you bet 600. This trick works with any denomination on the table, as long 10x your bet isn't over the table max. So you're only risking 1/10th the bet of what the table is going to pay out at.
