Need for Speed Undercover hits pavement in November
Developer Black Box's nitro button must be worn down to a nub. The studio announced today that its upcoming Need for Speed sequel, Undercover, will ship this November, pulling up to the starting line well before the 2009 release previously mentioned by EA CEO John Riccitiello.
In development for every platform under the sun (yes, even mobile phones), Need for Speed Undercover will also sport what Black Box describes as "big-budget live-action sequences" starring Balls of Fury and Mission Impossible III actress, Maggie Q, as a federal agent who recruits drivers to take down a criminal syndicate. While recent Need for Speed racers have all but siphoned our tanks of what enthusiasm we once had for the series, those who care can look forward to race with Ms. Q in North America on November 18 and in Europe on November 21.

(sigh) Just do Hot Pursuit III, please.
XGM @ Aug 15th 2008 5:28PM
Meh even if they do, the name has been so ruined by the past NFS'es that it would need to be darn good for me to get back to it.
JAY JAY @ Aug 15th 2008 5:56PM
Saying that brings back a whole lot of memories about the first Hot Pursuit. Ahh, Nothing like the good ol' days (of racing games)...
Jeff @ Aug 15th 2008 12:42PM
Seriously. Talk about an IP gone to shit.
Brian @ Aug 15th 2008 12:42PM
They should give the NFS series a rest, it isn't like they keep gettting better.
Jonah Falcon @ Aug 15th 2008 12:54PM
They could, if they weren't so fucking obsessed with underground bullshit.
There's nothing better than Hot Pursuit mode in NFS. Just a more advanced version of Hot Pursuit. Maybe even a "Driver Hunt" multiplayer mode in which a single player is chased by a bunch of human cops.
juju187 @ Aug 15th 2008 5:13PM
you better copyright your idea buddy...
FOXHOUND @ Aug 15th 2008 12:54PM
Okay, now that I've caught my breath from laughing so hard over this... I'm going to name my character "Brian O'Connor" and be the envy of every annoying 2NR out there.
No offense to those who seriously enjoy car modification, but EA doesn't give a rat's ass about you - as evident by the NFS series since NFSUnderground 2.
Wiinterfang @ Aug 15th 2008 12:56PM
I love how the put Balls of Fury before Mission Impossible 3 XD.
FOXHOUND @ Aug 15th 2008 1:15PM
It's because BALLS OF FURY is KUNG POW with a better cast.
theturtle363 @ Aug 15th 2008 1:49PM
and live free or die hard wasnt worth mentioning
Jim @ Aug 15th 2008 1:02PM
Undercover looks not too shabby, Most Wanted was the last NFS I enjoyed.
Viridium @ Aug 15th 2008 2:15PM
Have to agree there. I actually enjoyed Most Wanted quite a bit. Carbon sucked balls, and after trying ProStreet at a friend's place, took a pass on it as well.
FOXHOUND @ Aug 15th 2008 2:17PM
MOST WANTED was about their best recent attempt at a good recent NFS(it wasn't bad on the PSP either); but they continue to use that damned rubberband difficulty/CPU compensator when you're kicking its ass in any of the races. MARIO KART WII does this crap too, but at least it's with item-shock.
Nytemare @ Aug 15th 2008 2:27PM
I agree as well. Most Wanted was a great game.
LordChimp @ Aug 15th 2008 1:08PM
I hope it's better then ProStreet. That game was garbage.
Wiinterfang @ Aug 15th 2008 1:08PM
Meh for speed.
npChaos @ Aug 15th 2008 1:17PM
Why does that sound like the plot for 2Fast2Furious?
Misfit Toy @ Aug 15th 2008 1:42PM
The problem with Need for Speed games is that it tries SO hard to be The Fast and the Furious.
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Aug 15th 2008 1:42PM
I would love to see a game like Underground 2, just fixing the flaws the open city design had. I really loved that game.
Hot Pursuit, Underground 2, and Most Wanted are my favorite NFS games.
theturtle363 @ Aug 15th 2008 1:49PM
i never really cared for NFS, i didnt enjoy underground at all but it's just gone to shit now. Good for me Midnight Club LA is coming out soon
tifosiotaku @ Aug 15th 2008 3:53PM
My thoughts exactly. Midnight Club LA comes out a month before this, and I'll be hitting up Rockstar San Diego's latest instead of this dreck. Sorry, EA, but this is the first NFS I'm skipping...
Sigh @ Aug 15th 2008 2:02PM
HP: Superb!
HP2: Super superb!
Underground: NO.
Underground 2: NO.
MW: Superb!
Carbon: .....eh.
The last one, who's name escapes me..: NO.
An NFS isn't worth playing if it doesn't have
1) Cops
2) Cop chases
3) High speed cop chases
4) High Speed Cop chases whilst riding exotics.
That's what NFS is all about. That's what singles it out. Without that, it's just another arcade racer, with absolutely nothing unique to set it apart.
Better yet, just give the license to Criterion. Let them make Burnout with Cop chases. Better yet, let me outrun a dinosaur in a burnout, or outrun lava from a valcano, just let me outrun anything neat in a Burnout! Now that'd be awesome.
JAY JAY @ Aug 15th 2008 5:58PM
They're Killing the series... :0
juju187 @ Aug 15th 2008 7:37PM
Killed the series...
it happened awhile ago
