New Ratchet & Clank in Fall 2009, 'Quest for Booty' teases
Spoiler alert! A new Ratchet & Clank game is coming next year. Upon completing Quest for Booty -- the downloadable Ratchet & Clank episode due on PSN next week -- 1UP was rewarded with ... more Ratchet & Clank; at least, the reassurance that there'll be a ninth installment in the franchise. The teaser (pictured above) supposedly appears after the credits roll and all but confirms Insomniac's intent to keep churning out sequels every other fall (the series is turning just "six" in November!), while popping out a Resistance game in the off years. Do we have an early front-runner for Joystiq's coveted award for Stalwart Excellency in the Face of Change?

How do they do it?
How?
AlterEgo @ Aug 15th 2008 4:37PM
Simple. They don't sleep.
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Aug 15th 2008 4:52PM
They sleep on Sunday.
Phranctoast @ Aug 15th 2008 5:28PM
AlterEgos gem goes unnoticed. :(
AlterEgo @ Aug 15th 2008 5:33PM
@ Phranctoast
I tried...
*sighs*
>_>
Jacksons @ Aug 15th 2008 4:36PM
I would be pretty upset if this wasn't the case!
Dirty @ Aug 15th 2008 4:39PM
Bring on the ratchet and clank goodness. Part of the reason I have a ps3 is this franchise. In a word it is Solid.
Trophy support would be nice. Bet they would have some interesting ones.
Bloo @ Aug 15th 2008 4:40PM
Can't wait!
But I'll have to...
:(
Bloo @ Aug 15th 2008 4:42PM
I feel like I'm the only one in the world that could care less about trophy support. I have a twenty-something thousand gamerscore and I don't even care about those!
Dirty @ Aug 15th 2008 4:54PM
When the 360 first came out I felt the same way. They grew on me, so much so my gamer score is 20,000 plus. I feel that I get more out of a game, it offers new challenges and bragging rights, some games like Geometry Wars are great examples of this.
I don't think your the only one who doesn't care, most of my friends don't. I feel like a nerd for having such a high gamer score when my friends barely have 1,000 (mostly because they play just madden, GTA4, or Halo.)
Bass Masterson @ Aug 15th 2008 5:20PM
I always wondered who cares about 'gamerscore' and 'achievements'. Now I know.
Makes zero sense to me. I play a game to play the game. Having some dumbass achievement popup on Xbox does nothing but pull me right out of the experience - wish I knew a way to shut the damn things off. But it doesn't matter since I never play the Xbox anyway, not since Dead Rising.
Drew @ Aug 15th 2008 5:46PM
Well then you aren't XTREME! BEWARE MY MASSIVE TROPHY LEVEL! RAWRAWRAWR
Raikage (GOLDEN Gun Of The Patriots) @ Aug 15th 2008 4:43PM
Hmmm they make a new one year after year...
Question, are they getting progressively better or worse? I've played a little of the first one but that's it, a friend loved the first two, but never picked up the rest of them... so I was wondering if they had just gotten worse or repetitive or something.
Heh {XBL: P4nic 4tt4ck} @ Aug 15th 2008 4:45PM
The ones later into the PS2 life cycle were good, but had moved a lot away from platforming and more into fps territory.
The PS3 R & C returned to the game's platforming-esque roots, hence the high amount of overjoyed fans when it was released.
Heh {XBL: P4nic 4tt4ck} @ Aug 15th 2008 4:46PM
tl;dr: great - okay - epic
In that order.
brickwalker0 @ Aug 15th 2008 4:51PM
"Heh" said it best.
if they keep everything that was good in Tools of Destruction and add a bit more, the next one is destined for greatness.
Raikage (GOLDEN Gun Of The Patriots) @ Aug 15th 2008 4:55PM
One more question, which one should I pick up for the PS2 on the cheap?
I love both shooters and platformers, (OMGZWUTTHEYCAYNTMIX!) So any mix of them is good, but I do get bored easy so the faster paced ones would be better for me.
Jacksons @ Aug 15th 2008 4:59PM
@Rai
Well, in Up Your Arsenal they made a control scheme with jump and shoot on the shoulders, so you can strafe around enemies while jumping and shooting. #2 has a strafe button mapped to the shoulders, which also works. Both are great.
Raikage (GOLDEN Gun Of The Patriots) @ Aug 15th 2008 5:12PM
Sounds good, thanks guys. I also want to try Sly Cooper.
(My launch PS2 broke 2 weeks after warranty so I didn't get to play all the good games on it.)
Jacksons @ Aug 15th 2008 8:14PM
Sometimes you could just swear electronics know the exact time to break down. That said, Sly is pretty great as well, especially the second one.
Creciente @ Aug 15th 2008 4:57PM
Awesome. More reasons to justify the purchase of PS3.
NaeemTHM @ Aug 15th 2008 5:08PM
The 9th installment already?! More like The Milking Continues In Fall 2009.
Bass Masterson @ Aug 15th 2008 5:22PM
Yeah, shameless milking! Like those hacks who wrote The Honeymooners or I Love Lucy or Cheers or MASH or Seinfeld! Milking the same damn premise for so many years!
Mr Khan @ Aug 15th 2008 5:27PM
To their credit, Insomniac isn't really milking, Sony is. Milking only really qualifies if there is a decline in quality, which there was a little in the latter days of the PS2 (but only because they seemed so determined to eliminate all traces of platforming), but since Future, it has come back in neat form
However, it is rather odd for there to be as many console R&C games in 9 years as there has been main franchise Mario games in 23
The-E @ Aug 15th 2008 7:22PM
ahhhh I don't think they are milking it...its not like they are throwing out BAD games every year...if the quality is still there why stop?? Final Fantasy is milking it by that logic...
Waqman @ Aug 15th 2008 8:43PM
Actually to be honest Bass, Seinfeld definitely got weak in the last few seasons (when Larry David left).
So yeah that was definitely milking it.
David @ Aug 16th 2008 10:08AM
Well, Nintendo gets incredible flak for releasing fewer installments in its franchises over 20 years, so 9 in six years would imply at least an equal amount of milking it.
Mr Khan @ Aug 15th 2008 5:22PM
Insomniac hasn't really failed to deliver yet, though i wish they would get control back from Activizzard over Spyro, that's the money platformer
Also: I returned from the Clone Wars movie, an early showing to beat the crowds. It really isn't as bad as i feared. There were some juvenile facepalm-inducing moments, but most of it stayed true to the star wars name
Though the story was a bit hard to follow for someone not intimately familiar with the scenario of Episode II, III, and the Tartakovsky Cartoon
Bass Masterson @ Aug 15th 2008 5:23PM
Um, they have a 'spunky heroine' wearing a halter top and miniskirt, trading insulting witticisms with a slightly emasculated leading male character. No thanks, I get enough of that from NBC.
Mr Khan @ Aug 15th 2008 5:29PM
Those witticisms induced most of the facepalms
That, and them lugging Jabba's infant son around, which led to a good number of poop jokes
Like the other recent star wars movies, the dialogue and characterizations fail often enough, but the action is certainly worthy enough to compensate
The-E @ Aug 15th 2008 7:18PM
I agree with you....Spyro has been pretty weak since they sold the ip.....same with Crash I suppose....lets that a petition!!!
Superstar90 @ Aug 15th 2008 6:02PM
only if they give me a new psp game :P
nealbailey @ Aug 15th 2008 9:50PM
"But it doesn't matter since I never play the Xbox anyway, not since Dead Rising"
I would never turn on my XBOX360 either if the last game I played was a smoking turd like Dead Rising. A statement like this completely discredits anything you said prior to this.
Wiinterfang @ Aug 15th 2008 9:59PM
Why they don't release that in ps3 and xbox 360?
jakisoner @ Aug 18th 2008 4:59AM
great, I'd like to tell the news to my friends on
http://www.naturistmeet.com
they must have interest in it , and maybe some nude babes will be crazy about the news...
