Picture it: Batman Arkham Asylum [update]

Update: Warner Bros. Interactive is making the rounds this afternoon, trying to bottle up the pesky genie that escaped earlier today. "The images of Batman Arkham Asylum that Rocksteady posted on their website were done in error," a representative has explained to Joystiq. In turn, we have complied with the company's request to remove any screenshots from this post and will surely not remind you that the images in question are still floating around the internet, maybe even locatable through links posted in the comments section...

Bring on the lawsuit...tough break for Game Informer.
FOXHOUND @ Aug 15th 2008 12:22PM
I'd settle out of court, offer exclusive updates to GameInformer, and shill them a test copy of the game for first-publishing right of review.
I was hyped by the news of the game, but the image unfortunately reminds me of that BATMAN: DARK TOMORROW game... which coincidentally, GameInformer gave low marks to.
thesimplicity @ Aug 15th 2008 2:17PM
To guarantee the lawsuit, they should have reprinted the text word for word. They have a full on frickin' narrative of the opening sequence.
I'm just hoping the dialog and some is still pending, because what they have in the article is laughably bad. Seriously, "Don't wrinkle the suit, Bats?" But at the same time they hint that Kevin Conroy may be doing the voice of Batman, so in my opinion it shows a lot of promise just for that fact.
xGeneral DEATHx @ Aug 15th 2008 11:35AM
Are you afraid of the dark?
Jack of No Trades 85 @ Aug 15th 2008 11:37AM
Looks fantastic! I hope it plays like Assassins Creed/GTA/Dark Sector!!!
Tiptup300 @ Aug 15th 2008 2:21PM
The joker looks a bit simple though. I was hoping for the appearance from The Dark Knight.
theturtle363 @ Aug 15th 2008 2:22PM
as much as i agree and hope, it seems like it will be set just in the arkham facility, which doesnt leave a whole lot of room for cars. Hopefully the pandemic TDK game is real and will be like Batman's Creed
the Brayn @ Aug 15th 2008 11:42AM
Dressing up like Batman and punching Vin Diesel in the face? It's like they read my mind and turned it into a video game.
Cornelius @ Aug 15th 2008 11:43AM
look up in the top left...you know who that is...
looks awesome.
Chilly Willy @ Aug 15th 2008 11:44AM
Good eye, mate :)
Batzarro @ Aug 15th 2008 11:50AM
Who wears camo pants inside an insane asylum? That's crazy!
baby sea tuna @ Aug 15th 2008 2:02PM
They'll never see him now!
...or at least not his legs.
Duke @ Aug 15th 2008 11:50AM
Some of those screens look damn good. I am suddenly very interested in this title.
Also, did CVG just put their logo over someone elses....yeah nice. :P
Fenix @ Aug 15th 2008 11:54AM
Yeah when I went into the screens I got hyped all of a sudden too. Looks very impressive.
Dirty @ Aug 15th 2008 12:21PM
Ill file this under I.... for interested.
Those screens are damn pretty. Crossing my fingers for the batman game that we all hoped and dreamed for.
Misfit Toy @ Aug 15th 2008 11:55AM
Well, judging by the pics this game looks to be very dark. Seems to be taking a page out of The Dark Knight, but my question is what rating will this game get? I already thought Dark Knight should have been rated R, but somehow got away with PG-13.
I'm perfectly fine checking it out myself, I just wonder about all the kids having nightmares from stuff like this. It can start to get confusing because Batman has had so many iterations. We have cutesy LEGO Batman, goofy 60's Batman, super serious Christian Bale version of Batman...it goes on.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Aug 15th 2008 12:11PM
...
You do realize that Batman has been gritty ever since Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns and Batman: Year One?
Misfit Toy @ Aug 15th 2008 2:02PM
I understand that more recently in the long span of Batman being around he's been portrayed more gritty. But not everyone follows every version of Batman.
The LEGO Batman isn't even out yet, but its following the popularity of a very dark film. It just seems sort of odd to me.
The Doctor @ Aug 15th 2008 2:40PM
He hasn't been gritty and dark since Year One. He returned to beeing gritty and dark with Year One. He started out that way. But then alarmists, politicians, and parents all had a big outcry about how dark comics were corrupting their children (sound familiar?) and the Comics Code was passed, and the Dark Knight got a happyfunyay sidekick and lost the grit. '60s Batman was a parody of the superhero genre at the time.
After The Dark Knight, I think parents are very aware that the norm for Batman is not Adam West, and if they're of the low number of parents who care enough to take an active part in moderating what media their children digest, will limit their Batman intake if they don't feel they can handle it, with any exceptions as the obvious Lego Batman.
Now Joystiq, what I want to know- Does this game have anything to do at all with Grant Morrison's Arkham Asylum? The basic plot seems to line up, but, well, anything written by Grant Morrison would be extremely hard to adapt to any other media, given how mentally insane the man is.
Mr Khan @ Aug 15th 2008 6:02PM
The Batman from the Warner Bros Cartoon continuity (Batman cartoon in the '90s and the subsequent Justice League and Justice League Unlimited) struck a good balance. Gritty, but not all overly emo and stuff
Dean @ Aug 15th 2008 11:57AM
Im guessing it will since all the other batman iv played deffo the one with mr freeze in it was like the first ever open world yeah you can drive around a huge varity of the same streets killing the same things over n over again, and collecting power-ups ect but if they are doing the same world as the others then it should be like gta in a laytex batman costume with some extra gadgits ect
Hope this is what its like otherwise i cant be arsed with another liner game! i want open world "f**k the movie put more damn stuff init and call it batman and the world with every baddy from all his movies, specialy peguin, "best film" but not seen the new one which has got a damn lot of good reviews
Anyway i hope this helps
Dean
Batzarro @ Aug 15th 2008 12:04PM
. You put that at the end of every sentence, and you'll be allright.
xGeneral DEATHx @ Aug 15th 2008 12:21PM
It's going to take more than punctuation marks to salvage that train wreck of human synaptic reactions.
Duke @ Aug 15th 2008 1:31PM
No, no, it didn't help at all.
Tim The Enchanter @ Aug 15th 2008 3:20PM
That comma in the first paragraph seemed out of place.
j.howlett @ Aug 15th 2008 12:08PM
the first thing i thought was vin the i saw batman and thought huh
thomashenwood @ Aug 15th 2008 12:08PM
Looks kinda sweet, but some of the character modelling is way off. Batman looks too inhuman and the joker looks more like a clown that the demented freak that he was.
Jack of No Trades 85 @ Aug 15th 2008 12:11PM
Go read the comic books you rookie!!!!!!!!
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Aug 15th 2008 12:12PM
... seriously what?
Go read some comics.
the Brayn @ Aug 15th 2008 12:21PM
This game doesn't look to be based off the Dark Knight movies at all. Comparing the character models to the actors is just ridiculous.
theturtle363 @ Aug 15th 2008 12:24PM
WROOOOOONGGGG
Noshino @ Aug 15th 2008 1:01PM
Eidos only has the rights to the comics Batman, while EA has the rights to the TDK Batman...
theturtle363 @ Aug 15th 2008 1:08PM
hmm, no one replied to him when i typed that, so to clear it up i meant the first poster in this chain was wrong
ObiBen @ Aug 15th 2008 12:16PM
looking forward to my next issue of GI!
Dirty @ Aug 15th 2008 12:25PM
Batman in the Wheelman - CONFIRMED!
samfish @ Aug 15th 2008 12:29PM
Ugh, Batman looks HORRIBLE. I like the Jack Nicholson vibe on the Joker, but...it's all so 'generic videogame 3D' art.
Jack of No Trades 85 @ Aug 15th 2008 12:56PM
I don't want a Wind Waker Batman game Samfish!
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Aug 15th 2008 12:56PM
Because as we all know, Batman should have vibrant bright colors. It only makes sense.
samfish @ Aug 15th 2008 1:41PM
I keep re-reading what I wrote, but I see nothing there about wanting bright colors. Is it too much to ask for a comic book vibe, though?
...or at LEAST a Batman who's head doesn't look like a bowling ball attached to a post?
Jack of No Trades 85 @ Aug 15th 2008 1:46PM
If this was only for the Wii you would be praising the graphics. You're a wacko samfish.
samfish @ Aug 15th 2008 2:14PM
Damn right I would be. Those would be amazing graphics on the Wii.
I'd also still say the art style is crap.
Superstar90 @ Aug 15th 2008 5:41PM
I wish it was cel-shaded and styled like a comic, with like the panels switching between scenes and stuff. Now it just is like WOO 3D MODELS.
theturtle363 @ Aug 15th 2008 12:29PM
It looks really good, im glad they didnt go with an ultra cartoony cel shaded style
Leobebes (BDF: Braid Defence Force) @ Aug 15th 2008 12:29PM
This still won't be as good as Brain but you'll spend $60.00 on it anyway.
Zoot Suit Jedi @ Aug 15th 2008 12:50PM
I knew a girl who would give brain for $60.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Aug 15th 2008 12:56PM
That's hot.
Batzarro @ Aug 15th 2008 1:00PM
60 dollars? Try free!

Leobebes (BDF: Braid Defence Force) @ Aug 15th 2008 1:06PM
Did I say brain? You know what kiddos...don't drink coffee and type at the same time while you're at work after getting only 2 hours of sleep the night before.
It makes you look like an ass.
BRAIN wtf I am an idiot.
Boffo the Sock @ Aug 15th 2008 4:05PM
Maybe you should lay off the speed and get more than two hours of sleep.
Leobebes (BDF: Braid Defence Force) @ Aug 15th 2008 4:17PM
That wasn't funny my sister just died of a meth overdose.
