SOCOM Confrontation beta features detailed

Just a couple of weeks to go until those with GameStop pre-orders for SOCOM Confrontation will gain entry into the public beta for the game. (Qore subscribers will need to stay patient for a few days after that – d'oh!) With the sneak peak looming, the SOCOM Blog has posted some salient details on what to expect content-wise.
The latest update details the "Crossroads" map, which will be playable in both 16- and 32-player variations. Available game modes will include Extraction, Suppression, and the less friendly sounding Elimination. Beta players will have access to weapon and gear customization, as well as clans and stats tracking – player data will be deleted once the game hits retail, so bold beta entrants best not get too attached to their accomplishments.
On another SOCOM Confrontation related note: we've toyed around with Sony's official PS3 Bluetooth headset (included in the $59.99 retail bundle) and not only is it well designed, but it acts as a far-field microphone while in its charging cradle so you never have to go without voice chat.

Wow, thats a pretty cool feature with the headset and the charging cradle. I like that

Indeed. That is half the reason I'm pre-ordering this game.

Hopefully unlike B:BC it will use more colors, seriously I'm tired of friendly fire.

i'm not sure if i'm not more excited for the headset. i'm apprehensive about learning the control scheme and curious about the knew dance moves if any

That headset does look pretty snazzy. Just by looking at it, I think they should package it with the PS3. It has a mute button (for games that have all the time chat like CoD4), and it still works even when you're charging it (WH headset doesn't do that).
Bundling it with the PS3 would silence the haters, and if it sells well enough the should sell it stand alone, for all of us who might not buy SOCOM.

it is supposed to become the official headset, so lets see what they do with it. i want to really give SOCOM another honest try. i enjoyed previous games, but never got into it like my dad did. i think he still has an active clan on the ps2. it was just hard to get familiar with the controls playing a bunch of games at the same time.

I want this game but I am also scared to buy it. I will probably get uber pwned by those people that live and breath this series.

I never played the series either. So I bought the Qore issue JUST so I can try it out and decide if I want to play it. Now I'm at a strange intersection. I WANT the headset... and yet if I want the game, I'd prefer the PSN version...

Same here - but as someone who has only read reviews on the series, pretty excited - always prefer the more thoughtful, tactical games and SOCOM is top of the list for such shooters

I have played the whole series thus far, and will continue on. S3 and CA sucked, but I was still faithful. I could care less about the headset! I have like 10 bluetooths, and I even sent my whole clan from CA a brand new bluetooth for XMAS! It's all about the game! PPL are excited about a stupid headset?!?!
