Viva Pinata DS coming Sept 2, Rare releases new Halo 3 parody
Rare has announced that the THQ-published Viva Pinata: Pocket Paradise for the DS will be proliferating retail shelves with dirty puns on September 2 in North America and September 5 in UK and EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) alongside the Xbox 360 sequel VP: Trouble in Paradise. The DS title will also "begin to filter through to the rest of the world on the 11th, with VP:TIP not far behind."
Along with the announcement, Rare also released its second Halo 3 parody, "Museum," based on the sci-fi shooters' Believe ad campaign. We've embedded the video and the previously released (and pretty funny) "Believe Pinata" video after the break.

Well... it's being pulished by THQ.
But there are other games from Rare and even Microsoft games on the DS: Viva Pinata, Diddy Kong Racing, Age of Empires, and the new Age of Empires: Mythologies, Mechassault, Zoo Tycon, etc.

I just cant understand how a company that released a AAA game at almost one each year till about 2000, has in the eight years since released just four games: Conkers (a remake), two average titles in PDZ and Kameo and Viva Pinata. What exactly happened, Rare?
baby sea tuna @ Aug 15th 2008 3:14PM
AFAIK, a bunch of their staff jumped ship at some point.
GreyFox @ Aug 15th 2008 3:36PM
You're forgetting how bad PDZ was which I think is contingent on declaring it a AAA title.
Snowblind @ Aug 15th 2008 4:51PM
I wouldn't say Viva Pinata or Kameo were "average". Both are easily on par, or even above *anything* they've made in the past.
Particularly Viva Pinata. It's clever, funny, original, deep, unique and just fun to play. Classic Rare.

Microsoft happened, that's what. Don't put this on Rare. Nintendo financed creativity to them.
Abuzar @ Aug 15th 2008 6:57PM
Hey screw you. Viva Pinata is one of their best games EVER.
Brian Turner @ Aug 15th 2008 3:08PM
Ummmmm..... SOLD!
baby sea tuna @ Aug 15th 2008 3:13PM
I recently bought my girlfriend a DS in the hopes that I could get her as addicted to VP as I was to the first one.
Mwa ha ha!

LOL #1 on my most anticipated games list. I love Viva Pinata, and the world should love it too. Rare/Microsoft are now my favorite companies :) I'll forgive rare for the crappy avatar idea :P
Drew @ Aug 15th 2008 3:32PM
Am I the only one that can't stand this franchise? It's like Mexican Animal Sims, if I'm not mistaken.
ice~ @ Aug 15th 2008 3:36PM
I don't get how you can't stand it. Did you get molested by a piñata at your 8h birthday or something???? Or are you one of those people who don't have the patience to play a slow paced game (not tryin to be offensive)???
Drew @ Aug 15th 2008 3:43PM
You aren't trying to be offensive, yet you suggest that I'm impatient and was molested at my 8th (presumably Mexican-themed) birthday by frilly paper mache mammals? For shame!
I can't stand it because I've played before on PC, and in Flash games, just in different wrapping. Not to mention I'm more interested in Spore now, what with it doing something new. I shall raise a penis race!
ice~ @ Aug 15th 2008 3:54PM
lol I'm gonna have to agree with you on the spore thing it is changing things up. The molesting thing was a joke though lol, I still love pinatas, nothin better than a galagoogoo
BigD145 @ Aug 15th 2008 4:17PM
A penis in a video game? Yeah, that's new... /sarcasm
Drew @ Aug 15th 2008 5:42PM
@ Big D
Yes... but an EVOLVING penis?
BigD145 @ Aug 15th 2008 8:33PM
What does it evolve into, a penis? I'm not sure that would be an improvement.
Drew @ Aug 18th 2008 12:04PM
If my penises would evolve into penis, that wouldn't be much of evolution.
343 Guilty Fart @ Aug 15th 2008 3:33PM
That Believe parody video gives me the same chills as watching the original. It's just so wonderfully spot-on.
rv @ Aug 15th 2008 7:24PM
Ya, the best is the horstachio head raise. hahaha
CyberKnight @ Aug 15th 2008 3:43PM
"Sitting next to an overturned hogurt." :)
This is just genius. I wonder if the next video will have two gardeners examining an old shovel...
So, are they going to be hiding candy skulls in the garden? If you find "I Would Have Been Your Taffly", it makes the ruffians say "Wort wort wort!" when they invade the garden? "Whirlm Birthday Party" makes the whirlms explode with the sound of a plasma grenade when you whack their heads with a shovel?
Sgt. Johnson makes a guest appearance as the builder?
Kael @ Aug 15th 2008 4:10PM
The second one, Believe Pinata, made me laugh out loud. Very funny!
Leobebes (BDF: Braid Defence Force) @ Aug 15th 2008 4:15PM
Viva Pinata was a damn solid title. Very deep gameplay and its not surprising that many people who don't like thinking in their games shun this one and scoff it off like a kid's game. You know kinda like Braid.
AduroX @ Aug 15th 2008 4:37PM
I want a grunt pinata!!!!
Nailio @ Aug 15th 2008 5:13PM
Are those pinata's in the video the Burger King toys they had a while back?
Erik Stroud @ Aug 15th 2008 7:49PM
haha, thats pretty cool.
Wubbytoes @ Aug 16th 2008 2:36AM
That second video is so good.
Trunks @ Aug 16th 2008 3:09AM
I'm a huge fan of Halo, but I was a little bored by the believe campaign. These little tributes are definitely reinvigorating my respect for them.
Brilliant.
