Disaster: Day of Crisis gets Australian rating

Following rumors of a cancellation, it's nice to hear any kind of news about Monolith Soft's Disaster: Day of Crisis -- even if that news is somewhat inconclusive. It seems the title, which was announced alongside Nintendo's latest home console before being put on indefinite hold, recently received a Mature rating from Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classification (for "violence, themes and infrequent coarse language", for those who were curious) on Wednesday. Could this signify an end to Disaster's time out? We'll let you know when we hear something more concrete.

Isn't 15+ maximum avilable rating for games in Australia?
And Mature/18+ games are automaticaly banned?
twilightlynk.com @ Aug 16th 2008 11:31PM
Actually MA15+ is the highest rating for videogames in Australia. M15+ is used a lot more casually... it's kind of like the equivelant of PG13 for you guys I guess. I mean Twilight Princess and Metroid Prime 3 Corruption were rated M15+ down here.
Averna @ Aug 16th 2008 11:46PM
Yeah almost every game is M15+ here... everything from Zelda to Fear. Go figure.
Our censorship board is stupid.
Averna @ Aug 16th 2008 11:48PM
@Ryan Seems your post was hijacked for some OFLC bashing, but I think the main character is FFVII:CC's Zack all grown up
BigD145 @ Aug 17th 2008 12:49AM
I thought there were two ratings: Banned and Not Banned.
meist3r @ Aug 16th 2008 7:13PM
That is probably the first screenshot I've seen of the game so far. Never really bothered to look at it. But it looks pretty good. Somehow for some undefinable reason reminds me of Metal Gear Solid.
The-E @ Aug 16th 2008 7:26PM
yeah same here....it has a very MGS2 vibe to it.....with the blueness and all.....and the rain....but wolverine wasn't in MGS 2....
mr nimblewick @ Aug 16th 2008 8:08PM
There are more of them floating around out there, as well as a gameplay video. Perhaps Fernando will show up with a link.
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 16th 2008 8:15PM
Very old footage (2006), with some art screens. Very blurry.
I like the character design... very appealing.

The game was suspended because they chose another developer.
Now is being in development by Monolith Soft (Xenosaga series, Baten Kaitos series, Soma Bringer, etc.)
It should look a lot better now. This images are old too.

Holy smokes, how did this get past me? That looks fantastic for Wii standards. You've got me on board mates.
j.howlett @ Aug 16th 2008 7:18PM
i remember that guy. i had no idea that that character and this game were related or, i forgot
king @ Aug 16th 2008 7:22PM
is this related to disaster report or raw danger?
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Aug 17th 2008 10:05AM
Nope
The-E @ Aug 16th 2008 7:24PM
Wow...if the game actually looks like this i will be very impressed!!!It was one game I have been looking forward to since the launch of the wii.....i recently assumed it turned to vaporware along with alan wake and now seeing this.......my god......it just brings a tear to my eye.....:'-(
Roto13 @ Aug 16th 2008 7:34PM
Well, let's hope. The Wii could use more games like this.
Cody @ Aug 17th 2008 5:19PM
The Wii, just like every other system, is getting plenty of games like this. It's just the lame 10% that frequent sites like this exclusively that pass on fanboy garbage that others take for fact instead of opinion.
Roto13 @ Aug 17th 2008 5:42PM
This is the first time I've ever been accused of being an anti-Wii fanboy. xP The Wii is my favourite game console this generation, but I can't say there are a lot of games like DISASTER floating around. Still, I have more Wii games than PS3 games.
Superstar90 @ Aug 16th 2008 7:56PM
Australian ratings means it will come out in like 2012.
Alvin @ Aug 16th 2008 8:07PM
why Australia??
LaughingTarget @ Aug 16th 2008 8:08PM
What better place to try and keep a secret than the country furthest away from everywhere?
Shaq-Fu @ Aug 16th 2008 8:21PM
Actually, Hawaii is the most isolated place on Earth, in terms of distance to nearest landmass.
But yes, Australia is the most isolated when it comes to continents
Foetoid @ Aug 16th 2008 8:34PM
Australia is also the only place in the world considered an Island, a Country and a Continent all at the same time :)
LaughingTarget @ Aug 16th 2008 9:15PM
And the only country in the world where an animal's name translated from the indigenous language means "I don't know what you're saying."
(yes, I know it's a myth, but it's funny none the less)
Foetoid @ Aug 17th 2008 2:41AM
And also the only country in the world where it is legal to eat one of the animals on the national emblem (the kangaroo).
Shaq-Fu @ Aug 16th 2008 8:14PM
Who decided it was a good idea to give Matt Casamassina a gun?
Mr Khan @ Aug 16th 2008 8:23PM
Since the ESRB no longer allows this sort of thing, the OFLC could become a new source for such leaks
However, knowledge of the OFLC's processes could determine whether this game actually exists, and those dudes played it, or if they just sort of looked at it and rated it Mature based on what little is known
Either way, it can't be known whether this is a title that Nintendo still wants to promote heavily, or if it will just be something that they throw out to the masses and just kind of see where it goes.
KraazyCraig @ Aug 17th 2008 2:46AM
the publishers have to pay to have a title rated by the OFLC shown here about halfway down the page http://www.classification.gov.au/special.html?n=469&p=65
i doubt someone would go through all that trouble if the game wasnt going to be released
juju187 @ Aug 16th 2008 10:12PM
good controls would go a long way with title...
Foetoid @ Aug 17th 2008 2:42AM
Kind of a hybrid cross between Gears and RE4. I've just realised how well Gears would control via Wii controls.
time @ Aug 16th 2008 10:39PM
A light at the end of the tunnel....
WRE @ Aug 16th 2008 11:04PM
I have been looking forward to this game forever. I really, really hope that it is coming out sometime relatively soon.
Monkeydog @ Aug 16th 2008 11:56PM
Now all I need is some hope that Project H.A.M.M.E.R. is still around, and I'll be content with the Wii's first party future.
Anonymousaurus @ Aug 17th 2008 4:28PM
it surprises me that this has been the last piece of news for this game since it was mentioned at E3.
just because production has been delayed, there should at least have been some sort of explanation or at least more screens or footage to bide our time and get excited about it. SOMETHING, ANYTHING!
michas_pi @ Aug 17th 2008 6:09PM
"Disaster: Day of Crysis"...
Hmm, Crysis confirmed for Wii? :)
JohnnyTenPoint @ Aug 19th 2008 5:22PM
What's that in the upper left corner of that screenshot? does it say "lunge?" Is that icon supposed to represent feet? Balance Board compatibility??
