The Force Unleashed video dump may 'blow your mind'
94
We can only imagine how dejected you must feel right now, sitting at home with a tummy full of popcorn and a heart brimming with disappointment. Your friends and family inquire about the reason for your sorrows, until they notice the tear-soaked ticket stub for Star Wars: The Clone Wars lying on your dresser. No amount of playing with your highly collectible Mego Han Solo seems to help -- your infatuation with George Lucas' epic space opera is dwindling, flickering like a candle in the unforgiving wind.
Allow us to offer you this minor consolation -- a sextuplet of videos from Lucasarts' upcoming dark side frolic, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, via GameTrailers. The trailer above is one of the best pieces of media we've seen from the title, showing some familiar faces from the series and ... what's this? A romantic sub-plot? After the break, we've got five videos which apparently highlight one of the first levels from the game. Before pawning your collection of X-wings in protest, we highly suggest checking them out -- they might just rekindle your once unflappable Lucas-love.

It could be just me, but those gameplay videos looked.... average.

Could be because the guy playing it was a retard.

Yeah, but then again, the regular player on a DMC game makes a DMC game look average.
When someone who really knows what they're doing has a go at it, it'd look unbelievable.

It would be so much better on PC with g_saberrealisticcombat ... light sabers not having any effect on enemies just doesn't look right.

Given the way he is going about his business I imagine that this Starkiller fellow is going to cause all sorts problems in any future most powerful Jedi ever 'discussions'.
I for one look forward to them.
Has anyone seen the Clone Wars yet? Is it all bad or is everyone just picking on an easy target. I want to see it but quite frankly I am scared to do so.

It's awful. Not surprising though, Lucas has been clinically insane for at least 20 years.

considering that in the opening level Darth Vader can do all the stuff the apprentice can at maximum power, and so can the bosses, it seems like that's just the way the force is portrayed

It has the flaws that the prequels had. Bad dialogue and dumb new characters (Zero the Hutt. Wtf?)
Equally, though, it's got that swashbuckling Star Wars action that the prequels realized better than the original, due to budget realities and technological limitations

A run for their money, sabers, and powers!

I am not sure about this game. On one hand, it looks like it can be a really fun game. On the other, it looks like a glorified tech demo that will get boring after an hour.

I'm gonna get the game just for the lore. I did a bit of research, and it's really surprising just how important the Apprentice is to the series canon. I'm not gonna spoil anything, but if not for his existence the rebellion wouldn't have been possible.

On the third hand (yes, I have three), it could be average.

Granted, this is just *one* level. Playing a single level of most action games in the genre (DMC, NG, etc) would get boring too.
Also, the "Level Up" screen seemed to signify that the abilities were very low. Other videos I've seen had more ferocious and fast paced action.
The only gameplay aspect I'm disappointed with so far is the inevitable T-rating lack of lightsaber dismemberment!... but the true test of having the game in hand will tell.

Can you elaborate fatass, just for me seeing as this thread will be dead to all eyes by now, I'm intrigued as to why Vaders 'secret apprentice' is ripping swathes through Imperial 'troopers.
I'm hoping that it somehow reveals something about Vader that the prequel trilogy never did rather than the apprentice character himself.

The more trailers I see, the more I'm thinking I'll skip the Wii version and go PS3- seems like the PS3 is going to be a "purer" version, whereas the Wii version will be gimmicky-er. But then again this whole game seems kind of gimmicky. So we'll see. Looks fun tho.

The art direction is incredible. The story and dialogue sounds poorly executed, just like the prequels. Can't say it doesn't follow the movies faithfully.

Why does everyone think Clone Wars was horrible? I really enjoyed it for what it was, a cartoon made for kids that wasn't supposed to be a movie in the first place. Its gonna be a great show, and I'm amazed that everyone seems to hate the movie so much.
Oh, and I can't wait for the game... [staying on subject]

I have no idea why they need to reimagine it. The Tartakovsky version was perfect.

Couldn't they both have happened? This is just an extension, it's not like the series is going to end in the exact same place that the mini-series left off. And really, for such a long and drawn out affair like a multi-years war, you need more than a few stories. This movie was like going to see Saturday morning on the big screen, it was fun, and as an introduction to the series, it was better than I had hoped.

Why do you say Hutts are hermaphrodites? I clearly recall a female Hutt in the background during the pod race in Episode I.

Hutts do have a specific gender, at a given point in their life cycle, Hutts change gender when they decide to reproduce, being Female during gestation and for a short period after birth, till the infant can survive on it's own, at which point they revert to being male. Also since Hutts do not mate with other Hutts, they can not be "gay"

I am a little disappointed that the player character is taking many blaster hits and barely takes any damage, or if he does heals quickly. I enjoyed Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy (although a bit less), but more importantly, I really enjoyed the deflection and heal/drain mechanics. These videos are hopefully from someone playing on an easy setting. It will be disappointing to such a "true to myth" strategic gameplay device removed from the game.
