... and we don't mean anything
stolen from other Joystiq features. We're just a fan of self-referential webcomics and wanted to highlight
Scott Dewitt's Fanboys strip from earlier this week. Also making it appropriate, we saw a preview for
Disaster Movie last night and wanted to end ourseles
to the pain. Here are our picks for the week's best game-related webcomic. Polling after the break; be sure to vote for your favorite!
Gamers (Urf)
Gears of Conflict Resolution (Penny Arcade)
I'm as much of a fan of Braid as everyone else ... (mudron)
Warning! Challenger Approaching (2P Start)
Block Head (Fanboys Online)
Moar Co-Op (CAD)
Street Dated (MNC)
Besting Thee (Castle Vidcons)
New Heroes (Burn the Internet)
(What? You say we didn't pick your favorite gaming comic this week? Make sure we and everyone else gets to see it in the comments below.)

Hey everyone! I'm a spammer who's been banhammered. Ouchies!
Lionbacker @ Aug 17th 2008 2:14PM
No.
Moorio - XBL: peacebyanymeans @ Aug 17th 2008 2:15PM
Check out my fist in your face in the immediate future.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Aug 17th 2008 2:19PM
How about I just report your comment instead. I'm sure it's much funny that what I would have to do for those free games...
Jakka - The Heavy wants his sandwich back! @ Aug 17th 2008 3:10PM
I enjoy watching how you guys flame the spambot. And I'm like "Uuh...should I tell them?".
F1 @ Aug 17th 2008 9:33PM
Fear the mighty banhammer!
Flit @ Aug 17th 2008 2:17PM
I don't get the Guitar Hero Comic. What does godsmack have to do with a 4 fret stretch?
aMac @ Aug 17th 2008 2:29PM
Having never heard Godsmack and guessing purely from the comic, it's a joke about how their songs use only 1 chord. Seemed easy enough to understand to me.
Kyattsuai @ Aug 17th 2008 2:35PM
I hate to explain my stuff, but what the heck. It's not so much that it's a 4 fret stretch, but that it's the same 4 fret stretch over and over again.
Abscissa @ Aug 17th 2008 3:20PM
I think they just mean it's the same chord over and over and over... Not that I would know, I haven't really listened to much Godsmack. But if you replaced the guitar with drums and changed Godsmack to Dragonforce, then THAT would have made the joke obvious to me (Man, Dragonforce needs a new drummer...)
Mudassir @ Aug 17th 2008 4:37PM
All Godsmack songs are basic power chord riffs requiring the guitar proficiency of a chimpanzee.
Haggard @ Aug 17th 2008 6:03PM
Your comic elicited a lol from me, Kyattsuai. But the Street Dated one got a bigger one, so that's where my vote goes, I'm afraid.
Jakka - The Heavy wants his sandwich back! @ Aug 17th 2008 2:18PM
Now here's something you don't see everyday.A really funny comic from CAD and a half-decent one from MCN!
GreyFox @ Aug 17th 2008 2:45PM
No not really. In fact all of these seem to forget that as a comic that is supposed to be about comedy they are supposed to be funny, which they aren't except for Penny Arcade.
j.howlett @ Aug 17th 2008 3:01PM
saying comics are supposed to be funny is likes saying games are for kids
Gavin Schmitt @ Aug 17th 2008 5:25PM
totally agree. CAD and MDC are usually super bland or at least shallow. They weren't perfect this week either, but I give them props for trying. CAD especially -- the expressions were pretty good.
Still, got to vote for Urf. Has a fresh indie feel to it, not seeing in the other stuff.
GreyFox @ Aug 17th 2008 11:25PM
@j.howlett: Not when they are trying to be funny and miserably failing at it. I agree comics don't have to be funny but when thats what they are trying to do, failing and then trying to pass it off as funny it's just worse. Humour is subjective but bad writing is bad from any perspective.
Mr Khan @ Aug 17th 2008 2:25PM
1. Penny Arcade's strip was done before, years ago, by Aqua Teen Hunger Force. "What are Standards and Practices? Ok, Meatwad, let me tell you about Standards and Practices. Let's blow the head off of this nun."
2. It was a very strong weak overall
3. The reference to Tim-Tom & Kevin put mudron over-the-top, for me anyway.
Obie @ Aug 17th 2008 2:26PM
Strong Weak? Strong Bad's wussy brother? ;)
Obie @ Aug 17th 2008 2:26PM
Strong Weak? Strong Bad's wussy brother? ;)
Mr Khan @ Aug 17th 2008 2:39PM
Also: I didn't know there was a Venture Bros Wiki
Color me interested.
LaughingTarget @ Aug 17th 2008 2:53PM
It would have for me as well, but he didn't update the name to Dr. Mrs. the Monarch. He hasn't been keeping up with Venture Bros.
Phil @ Aug 17th 2008 8:18PM
Every repost is repost repost.
This lesson can be applied to PA.
Try and criticize the Penny Arcade comic on a different level, cause that was just pathetic.
For me, it's a tie between the CAD comic and 2P start. While the games for the iPhone/iPod Touch aren't REVOLUTIONARY, dear CHRIST is there a chance this thing could crush the DS.
They've got an RPG on the iPhone for only 5 bucks. FIVE, BUCKS. Is that a steal or is that a steal? Not to mention De Blob, Crash Kart Racing and this knockoff of Puzzle Quest called Aurora Feint.
Plus a bunch of random 'lite' game apps here and there. Seriously though, De Blob is a blast.
Obie @ Aug 17th 2008 2:25PM
I gotta go with the Madden sheep for this one hehe.
Obie @ Aug 17th 2008 2:27PM
GOD DAMN BORKED COMMENT SYSTEM!
Mr Khan @ Aug 17th 2008 2:33PM
lol, i didn't catch that. I've been sliding into the dark pit of mistaken homophones for a while now. I need to get back to school.
Obie @ Aug 17th 2008 2:40PM
I do it all the time two..err..too ;)
Mr Khan @ Aug 17th 2008 3:40PM
WOW it screwed up this reply chain. First, my comment about the wiki should go under my original comment, not here, Obie's "borked" comment should go right after his double post, and my homophone comment should go right after that
You guys need to work on this
Obie @ Aug 17th 2008 5:29PM
Now if someone made a comic about the comment system, now THAT would be really funny!
Jarret @ Aug 17th 2008 2:25PM
Am I the only one who didn't get the Guitar Hero joke?
Aex @ Aug 17th 2008 2:31PM
It was a Godsmack joke... Listen to a Godsmack song to understand.
Sesur @ Aug 17th 2008 2:34PM
am i the only one who thought CAD was funny this time?
umm....hello??? @ Aug 17th 2008 3:08PM
no, I thought the CAD one was the funniest, although PennyArcade and mudron were close 2nds and Gamers was a distant 3rd...
Jarret @ Aug 17th 2008 3:21PM
@Alex: I've heard Godsmack a lot in my life, although not in a few years. I still don't get it. Could you just explain it to me?
Levi @ Aug 18th 2008 12:55AM
You see Jarret, the punchline of the joke is that Godsmack sucks.
Jarret @ Aug 18th 2008 7:30AM
Oh, I got that alright.
ThomasShaped @ Aug 17th 2008 2:36PM
Wow! Penny Arcade actually made me laugh for once!
Urf it is though.
Sesur @ Aug 17th 2008 2:35PM
whoops!
Shignami @ Aug 17th 2008 2:35PM
Wow.... I think I am less amused now than before reading those.
Urf was clever, but could have done a lot more with that joke.
Anyway, I don't know if it counts, but Horribleville is vaugely game-related this week.

Geist @ Aug 17th 2008 9:13PM
I really liked that. I didn't make me 'lol', as the kids say, but the juxtaposition of the serious discussion and Mario Kart, coupled with the ending, was pretty funny.
Oh shit, wait, this comic! Yay! I read through the archives a while ago, forgot to bookmark it, forgot the site. Awesome.
Chilly P @ Aug 17th 2008 2:41PM
Venture Bros. reference ftw
Top Cat @ Aug 17th 2008 2:45PM
Unfunny PA is unfunny this week
Neebs @ Aug 17th 2008 2:53PM
PA is better than the rest, though it's not saying much.
Macroy @ Aug 17th 2008 2:59PM
BTI FTW!
Mr.ESC @ Aug 17th 2008 3:05PM
:/
I'll go watch my Invader Zim DVD's instead.
(Weak sauce so I'll go for PA)
Cyber-Tyrant @ Aug 17th 2008 3:06PM
I agree about the Disaster Movie preview.
It was such a pain to watch, and it will truly be a... disaster!
God I'm terrible...
Jakka - The Heavy wants his sandwich back! @ Aug 17th 2008 3:18PM
I believe that PA and VG should be kicked outta the poll. They always screw up the rating. This weeks comic sucked.Period.
Yet how come it's on the top of the poll? It's all the fanboys!
pather @ Aug 17th 2008 4:06PM
Fanboys?! On Joystiq?! IMPOSSIBLE.
Saria the Cat @ Aug 18th 2008 3:22AM
:( But I think VG is usually very funny. And it's not like I'm biased towards cat characters or anything...honest.
Meh, I just pick what I think is funnier, not whom I know/like more. When I see a comic from a lesser-known that is hilarious, it'll definitely get my vote.
Though I see your point since PA is at the top and it is not very great at all this week. o_O CAD is definitely the closest to being humorous. Dry week...
Snowblind @ Aug 17th 2008 3:21PM
I get the idea behind the 2P Start one, but does the iPhone have ANY games that are really worth playing, let alone any that would make you stop playing the DS?
I don't really understand how anyone would consider the iPhone a contender in the handheld market, if Nintendo simply slap a phone onto the side of the DS, then it's over. (I'm surprised they haven't done this yet..)
