Rhythm games grow industry by 32% in '08
Rhythm games have certainly been keeping the tempo up for financial growth in the industry. GameDaily notes UBS analyst Ben Schachter's report, showing "music-themed games" have made up 15% of software sales year-to-date and 32% year-over-year growth so far.
The Guitar Hero franchise is already up 82% this year, with Guitar Hero: On Tour taking in $15 million in July alone. Meanwhile, Rock Band, across all platforms, took in $47 million in July ... and that doesn't even count any DLC sales. Unless the rhythm game bubble bursts in the next few months, GH: World Tour and Rock Band 2 sales -- along with their respective DLC sales -- could make up a significant portion of another record-breaking year for the industry.

This is bad.The genre is growing too quickly which will eventually cause it to collapse.Still I hope we get GH:AC/DC(Far better than Led Zep for GUITAR Hero) before it all ends.

I have to admit that Led Zep have far bigger influence of Rock Music, but for the love of God, which one would you rather play on Guitar Hero? Kashmir or Thunderstruck?

I'm definitely part of those numbers. We bought GH3 with a guitar, then bought the RB game by itself. Later, I bought a microphone (as part of a different game) and a drum set. In June, bought GH:Aerosmith with the guitar so we'd have a second one. So all told, I have spent $99.99 (GH3 and guitar) + $39.99 (got RB on sale from Amazon) + $29.99 (game + mike) + $79.99 (drum set) + $99.99 (GH:A and guitar) for a total of about $320. And that doesn't include the DLC I've gotten (though that has been comparatively cheap since I got some free points cards, and bought other cards at 50-75% off). And I'll be buying both RB2 and GH:WT (game only for both).
Yeah, I'm addicted... :-)

Beatmania IIDX, Pop'n Music, Guitarfreaks and Drummania... All much better than anything mentioned on this article.

And up next from this guy....retro is in.
Is anyone surprised from this? Look at how GH on the Wii is still on the charts almost a year after it came out.
Haggard @ Aug 18th 2008 6:18PM
It doesn't surprise me too much. Guitar Hero has become a casual phenomenon, and that market is sort of based on the Wii. A lot of people aren't going to care about lack of DLC.
