Ubisoft hopes I Am Alive can be 'another strong franchise'
Well, of course it does. Ubisoft didn't get where it is today by throwing popular franchises like Splinter Cell away after a single use (although our neck-snapping pal Sam seems to have been misplaced recently), and you can be sure that the upcoming disaster survival adventure ... thing, I Am Alive, will be no different. "We hope it can be another strong franchise for our portfolio, alongside Prince Of Persia or Rayman Rabbids," the publisher's executive director, Alain Corre, told MCV. "It's a new baby for us – and we have big hopes."
Provided it's raised properly and doesn't turn into a snot-nosed brat who sticks Legos up his nose and puts his Altair action figures in the microwave, this baby could be the best kind of disaster to befall any company. Of course, we should probably wait until we've played the first one before we sign off on "I Am Still Alive," and "Seriously, Stop Trying to Kill Me You Stupid Planet."

The screen shot reminds me of Cloverfield.
WhoMe @ Aug 18th 2008 7:52PM
Except that it's missing a Godzilla type creature...
Don't know much about this game though, other than that they put Jade Raymond on this game recently, now that it is nearing completion and ready to be marketed.
Get ready for round two of "Hello I'm Jade Raymond, I'm a female and this is my game! *giggle*".
Tehman @ Aug 18th 2008 10:40PM
Man I loved that movie... anywho the game seems to cross between I Am Legend and Day After Tommorow. But instead of vampires and oceans flooding New York, it's an earthquake and other survivors wanting to kill you (for survival I guess).
theturtle363 @ Aug 18th 2008 7:31PM
as far as survival games go i'd rather play as Bear Grylls
Thatoneguy64 @ Aug 18th 2008 7:34PM
I'd rather play as Les Stroud
nsdcx @ Aug 18th 2008 7:36PM
Les Stroud FTW!
greatest show on tv.
theturtle363 @ Aug 18th 2008 7:38PM
saw that coming a mile away
juju187 @ Aug 18th 2008 7:50PM
stroud > grylls
Doc @ Aug 18th 2008 7:42PM
I am legend? It sort of reminds me of the new fallout games concept.
juju187 @ Aug 18th 2008 7:51PM
only more vague.
AwesomeTown @ Aug 18th 2008 8:18PM
Well unless I Am Alive has super mutants, then it's inherently inferior.
BigD145 @ Aug 18th 2008 7:45PM
Humans do a much better job of killing each other than the planet could possibly do.
Other than using different cities, I'm not sure how this can become a franchise.
rv @ Aug 18th 2008 8:59PM
And there you have the answer! Different cities.
BigD145 @ Aug 18th 2008 9:13PM
It'll be like Madden, but with city names instead of 'year of release +1.'
Abuzar Baloach @ Aug 18th 2008 10:30PM
Not necessarily. Many different cities have unique features, and probably different things you need in each city to stay alive.
Also, Different People in Different Cities = Varied story.
Anticrawl @ Aug 18th 2008 8:09PM
Joystiq is right, they waited til the 5th version of Splinter Cell to turn it into garbage.
WiiFTW @ Aug 18th 2008 8:25PM
Still Alive > I Am Alive
Obie @ Aug 18th 2008 8:31PM
The game looks interesting, but Ubi needs to let the GAME speak for itself instead of parading Jade Raymond in front of the camera everytime the game is mentioned.
She is talented, I get it, but many other great games have their share of talent. I have no idea who the main producer was for Super Mario Galaxy or Call of Duty 4...but through their awesome games I respect them endlessly.
Bass Masterson @ Aug 18th 2008 8:45PM
But, she's not talented. That's why she's a producer.
Obie @ Aug 18th 2008 8:52PM
I think the "producer" role on a game is different than in the film industry. A film producer usually is "hands-off", but I think the role of a game producer is more involved in the design aspects of the game.
I might be wrong, so if anyone knows more please add to this post.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Aug 19th 2008 2:26AM
There are different levels of producers in the game industry, but the main role of a producer is to ensure that the whole project is managed on time and on budget. They are the intermediate between upper management and the development team.
It's a really shitty job to be in, but a lot of people go through there because that's one of the only ways to reach the executives' office.
AoE @ Aug 18th 2008 8:42PM
Their hopes can't be THAT great, I mean they haven't trotted out Ms. Raymond yet... or maybe she's finally getting some respect 'round Ubi these days?
Bass Masterson @ Aug 18th 2008 8:46PM
IREM has been doing games based on this concept for ages. Pretty good ones too, if you can get past spotty graphics. "I Am Alive" needs to actually deliver gameplay (something most Ubisoft games do not - look at Assasssasssass Creed).
Lard @ Aug 18th 2008 11:10PM
This better not suck as much as Assassin's Creed. One of the three worst games I've ever played.
Anything from Ubisoft now goes from must-buy to rental for me.
Vcize @ Aug 19th 2008 10:16AM
One of the three worst comments I've ever read.
mocax @ Aug 18th 2008 11:36PM
Looks like Afterworld.
I hope it's more animated than the series of slideshows >.>
WRE @ Aug 18th 2008 11:40PM
I really, really liked Assassin's Creed. Okay, the dialogue was terrible, awful actually, but I did enjoy throwing people off of cliffs and rooftops. Maybe a little too much.
And shouldn't the sequel to "I Am Alive" be "Staying Alive"?
MrSpaceCowboy @ Aug 19th 2008 12:31AM
When will someone make a survival game where you can loot and eat human flesh?
*sigh*
kevin @ Aug 19th 2008 1:28AM
iPod
"Cloverfield vs. I Am Legend (Feat. The Day After Tomorrow)"
Album: Ubisoft
IM IN!!
Teh Lup @ Aug 19th 2008 9:04AM
Chalk this up as a potential Obi game that will sell.
Sorry, but they dont have a great track record of putting out quality titles..
