Click on the video above and you'll get a peek at playing as Chris Redfield's female sidekick, Sheva Alomar, along with some oh-so-brief snippets of various (we presume) über-important cutscenes. Sure, it may be more RE4, but is that really so awful – especially when it looks this scary-good?

A-mazing.
Question for RE fanboys; does every game that comes out for this series fall into the same canon? Or are they all separate beings?
And is there an anthology anywhere, because I Love zombies, but never really got into the RE games (I was younger when most came out, and I just got a Ps2 recently)?

They are all indeed part of one storyline, I'm not going to post it all here but http://residentevil.wikia.com/wiki/Resident_Evil_(series) is about as good and concise a summary as you could want.
The main character in Resident Evil 5 (Chris) was also one of the two playable in the first game.
There are no anthologies as far as I know but if you have a Wii/Gamecube then try and pick up at least the Resi 1 remake and whatever version of Resi 4 you want.

RE1,2,3 and Code Veronica (Which should be Resident Evil 4) are one storyline since is about Umbrella.
Dead Aim and Outbreak series take place during RE 2 and 3 events but all these games are quite bad.
Umbrella Chronicles is the abridged storyline of RE 1 to Code Veronica but it plays like House of the death.
You can play RE:4 without playing the earlier games I imagine is the same case with RE:5

This game is actually looking really good, I thought it would be a little repetitive, with how everything they have shown is in the town, it looks like the levels will have some real variety to them.

Did anyone notice the blonde girl, Sherry Birkin anyone? She'd be about 18 or 19 years old at this point in time and It's about damn time we learned what's happened to her wouldn't you say?

That's certainly the popular theory, the game allegedly takes place 10 years after the original Resi, so she would be around 22.

I *hated* RE4 and this looks like a rehash of it.
This has gone from a must buy to a maybe rent for me.
What a disappointment.
At least there's Silent Hill V and Dead Space.

HATED RE4?!?!?! WHY?!?!?!
BTW, You know Dead Space is basically RE5 in space right? From the over the shoulder camera, the upgrade system, to the "new" in-game inventory which both games have.

RE5 doesn't look very "survival-horror" to me; more of an action movie. Also, RE4 didn't deliver a single scare to me.
Dead Space, on the other hand, looks like it could deliver some genuine scares. It has a very nice atmosphere.

Looks immense, I've never really got on with RE games but I'll certainly be giving this one a go.
However, am I the only one that's slightly perturbed at the way that axe flew through that fence as if it wasn't there? For a game as graphically and physically advanced as this it's a bit offputting to still see basic weapon solid object 'glitches'... Let alone in a trailer.

I loved everything about RE4, I just wish they were zombies, not "infected villagers". Also, I'd love me some Wesker. Hardcore.

I wouldn't say I hated RE 4, but I definitely did not like the game very much. Out of any game that I've bought and played, I think I've played RE 4 the least. I had never played an RE until the GC remake if 1 and I must have been playing that game wrong because I could only kill about three zombies before I die. So that experience had made me give up on RE at that point.
Re 4 comes out and every review says that it's so great, must play. So after it went down to $20 I picked it up because of everyone saying they love it. So I played it for about 2 hours(without dieing unlike RE1) and I turned it off. I was actually going to try playing again about a 3-4 months ago, but I had problems with the area with the first chainsaw guy and I died for the first time. Needless to say that I promptly turned off the console at that point.
In all honesty, what destroys RE4 without a doubt, is the fact that you can't strafe... or move at all while you're shooting come to think of it. I got crazy people throwing sharp objects at me, and a dude with a chainsaw, but I have to stop here real quick to try and shoot him. Sorry to all those that I will upset with this post, but I will never buy a game based on great reviews again.
RE4 is the Dark Knight of video games(without all the cash), OVERRATED.

You complain that RE1 was too hard than with RE4 you die once and "promply turned the console off"?
