Rumor: Spy Hunter movie hits oil slick, crashes, burns
The Spy Hunter movie based on the Midway arcade hit that we talked about more than a year ago is hitting the skids, crashing through the guardrail, and plummeting off the cliff that is called "development hell" in Hollywood. Looks like director Paul Anderson (W.S., not Thomas) is being taken off the project, which will spin it out into limbo.
You can also read Latino Review's review of the script right here. They seemed to like it, saying it was better than The Fast and the Furious 3 ... which ain't saying much. In fact, the best thing Spy Hunter has spawned as far as filmed entertainment goes is the Pontiac commercial above. If any of the game sequels had looked like that, we might still be playing them.
Now, we ask you... is this such a bad thing? Sure it had Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson attached to it, and John Woo was supposed to direct it at one point. However, it's had a slew of different writers and now with two director replacements, do we really need a Spy Hunter movie? We hope no one hits "Continue" on the Spy Hunter movie, and that it just dies a merciful death. What say you?

I'm all for a merciful death for all videogame-based movies in general.

A video game that has no possibility for an interesting story, Paul Anderson and B-movie writers is the perfect storm for worst movie of all time.

Well, the Rundown was pretty funny. But really, that's it. And I don't think he's the one who makes it funny.
Riley @ Aug 21st 2008 1:50AM

ok wtf. if they need a director cause no one whants to do it. il do it.
and take note that what they whant to do is simple.
they whant to make a low budget film. but it end up costing too much. for what they whant.
i can tell you if a movie called the spy hunter gets out people will swarm to it. the game got a basic story line. but every director can be a steven speilberg if they whant. its just marketing.
spoiling the public with a kick ass trailer and throing them a movie thats is just a stretched trailer. best exemple i can find is "jumpers"
there was action. but try to understand whats going on on this movie. your like "WTF" all the movie.
and that sucks. directors whants to make good movies but producer dosnt whant to make good movies.
cause that cost a lot and therefore make way less profit.
gaming industry is the same. especially EA.
im so tired sick of those fu#$%?ng publisher telling a director how to make a movie.
might as well sign a contract with pixar. you got more chance there.
20th century, touchstone, warner bros, alliance, universal, dreamworks, walt disney(worst one ever),etc... are all the corporations that block creativity in hollywood.
guess why. make some resaerch about their dark secrets. brainwashing throught movies. is it possible?? well if your search you will find trust me.
