Most DVD boxes don't have all of this info on the front, so why are they acting like games would have to?

Hey I know I'm probably double posting, but I've been trying forever to get a new avatar and nothing works. Can anyone explain to me what type of file it needs to be and all that jazz?

Mine won't change either. I have been stuck with the Carnival of Rust cover since the avatars began.

In all I don't mind it as much Michel Ancel is one guy that deserves his name on the box.

They didn't go overboard with the names that actually need to be on the front of the box. Nope. Not one bit.

Did the comment system change???

This is like movies that put the actor on the cover, while the director (sometimes) gets hardly any credit and the writer is virtually unknown.

Testing 1...2...3

Ok I think it's fine to have your name on the box when you're some kind of legend in the industry... but not for just any ol director.

Something like: (spelling error warning) Kojima, Miyamoto, Suda 51, Mizaguchi, Jade Raymond (lol), Moleneaux, Cliffy B., Carmack, and heck Jaffe has enough rep to have his name on the box too.

I just don't think it makes a difference to us end users whether they include credits or not. If the maker wants them, great. It won't make any of us read them if we were not curious anyway.

Either way, its better than the idea of forcing us to watch credits at the end of a game, when it won't allow you to cancel them.

Of those names, I think only Miyamoto and Kojima are worthy of having their names on the box.

Credits on box art? Barf...

Credits at the end of a game are bad enough. I don't care who voiced what character, who the sound tech was or who was responsible for the level design efforts. Besides, don't these people derive satisfaction from seeing the sum of their individual efforts culminate in an enjoyable experience for the customer, rather than from seeing their insignificant little names listed at the end of a game?

I don't think it would make a difference. I'm more inclined to remember the name of a studio or the name of an engine rather than people's names. Not only that, but just because it's got someone's name on it, it doesn't make me more or less likely to purchace a game. Whether you're Sid Meier or Kojima Miyamoto, if your game looks shit, your game looks shit.

Franqly I believe it's a good move. But put just the director and team in the front, a more in the back just like any dvd movie.

Most, if not all, people seem to be missing the point of putting names on the front of anything. It's a marketing angle and nothing more. It has nothing to do with deserves. Names appear because someone thinks that name will move merchandise. In the case of video games. The people who would know the developers names already know if they will buy the game or not. The name is only effective if the casual person can recognize the game and it helps influence their purchasing decision. It's very simple.

They already have full credits in the manual and at the end (and sometimes beginning) of the game, and often through the main menu. That's plenty of opportunity for people to read the credits if they want, and no matter where or how you display it you can't MAKE anybody read them if they don't want to. So, putting credits on the box cover would serve no purpose other than to muck up the artwork that you're trying to catch people's eyes with.
