First PSP-3000 pics (yeah, it's got a PS button)
There's not much to see here but we wanted to share with you anyways. Behold, the PSP-3000! Yeah, it looks just like the PSP-2000 (aka the PSP Slim) but, lo! What's this? A PS button and internal microphone? Take that Home button and super cumbersome external microphone attachment! Check out more pics in the gallery right there.

LoL
Is it really that bad to look like a telemarketer while playing the 1000/2000 model PSPs to have microphone access? ;D
DiddlyKong @ Aug 20th 2008 1:17PM
SOB I bought the 2000 when it first came out.
The_Punisher @ Aug 20th 2008 1:23PM
I opted to skip the 2000, but i might pick up the RaC 3000 pack. Hmmmm....
Dustin @ Aug 20th 2008 1:26PM
This means that Sony has actually released more versions of their portable hardware than Nintendo has...
Wow.
Also, this new comments system is weirding me out. I think I like it, though.
Ben @ Aug 20th 2008 1:47PM
"This means that Sony has actually released more versions of their portable hardware than Nintendo has..."
Let's see,
Original GBA + GBA SP + GBA Micro
PSP Phat + PSP-2000(Slim) +PSP-3000
Seems like a tie, at three a piece...
nsdcx @ Aug 20th 2008 2:10PM
True, but I personally live in the present, where Nintendo has this handheld device called a DS, which only has had one revision. You might want to look into it.
Superstar90 @ Aug 20th 2008 2:15PM
No ben, it's
DS - DS Lite
BigD145 @ Aug 20th 2008 3:12PM
Hasn't there been talk of a DS Lite Version2?
Slaziman @ Aug 20th 2008 1:31PM
What's the difference between the home and PS button? :S
Kristof @ Aug 20th 2008 1:42PM
To match the PS3's PS button. It's called consistency across brands. The PS button on the PS3 does that same thing as the home button on the PSP.
Nate @ Aug 20th 2008 1:48PM
one says "home" one says "PS".
They're the same damn thing, I don't know why these blogs keep making a big deal about it. They changed the paint on the button. That's it.
Po Panda @ Aug 20th 2008 1:32PM
LoL DiddlyKong! I did too! But I'm gonna wait until PSP-5000 comes out with the dual touch screens before I buy another one! =P
Sam @ Aug 20th 2008 1:43PM
Hey! is that also a slimmer ring around the back? looks like that source was correct!
Mystic @ Aug 20th 2008 1:46PM
I see they still have the same crappy d-pad. Pay Nintendo the royalties to use theirs already! Separated d-pads SUCK!!!
ejamer @ Aug 20th 2008 2:17PM
"Separated d-pads SUCK!!!"
I am so happy to see that some others feel the same way. Although people swear by Sony's controllers, they have always felt awkward to me... and the d-pad is the worst part.
(It's not a make-or-break issue, but always manages to be annoying.)
Bluebrake @ Aug 20th 2008 2:21PM
They really do suck. And yet a separated d-pad could actually be superior if they did it right: make each direction a separate button instead of linking them together under the surface. That would change things a lot.
Rocker2151 @ Aug 20th 2008 3:19PM
The ds lite's d-pad isn't so great either
carterman @ Aug 23rd 2008 12:21PM
except that the DS Lite d-pad sucks as well.
A person @ Aug 20th 2008 1:46PM
I'm glad I sold my PSP 2000 last week.
Jacksons @ Aug 20th 2008 1:54PM
Oh yeah? Well my PSP ring is bigger! So there!
baby sea tuna @ Aug 20th 2008 2:00PM
Ugh, I was waiting for this redesign to pick up a PSP but I guess if there's no real redesign, per se, there's not much of a point. R&C Size Matters was pretty awful...but I guess it's not as bad as National Treasure 2. Maybe I'll just pick up the GoW bundle instead.
CJLopez @ Aug 20th 2008 2:15PM
'll be picking a 3000 on november :D
GoldenS1104 @ Aug 20th 2008 4:17PM
It's funny how it's become common for a system to have a lot of redesigns. Rmember when consoles and portables had, at most, one redesign?
Psaakyrn @ Aug 20th 2008 5:03PM
Only if you suscribe to PS3/360. The Wii is still selling at the same price, same hardware, iirc.
burgerbat @ Aug 20th 2008 4:54PM
Ok, I need to know. Is this really that much of an improvement over the 2000? I seriously just bought a PSP 2000 core package on Monday. Should I regret this purchase? I mean, I don't intend on using Skype, and I can't imagine the microphone being used for gameplay since that feature isn't universal across all PSPs. I had the original PSP for about a year after launch and then sold it, but have been dying to get my hands on another, so I finally took the plunge, and then two days later...this...
Christian Walters @ Aug 20th 2008 5:23PM
Regrettable purchase? The 2000 over the 3000?=no, the PSP in general=HELL YES!
BrennaCeDria @ Aug 20th 2008 5:57PM
I've been considering a PSP lately, but still aren't quite ready yet. Maybe the 2000 will drop with this coming out, and I'll pick up that...
ryan @ Aug 20th 2008 6:00PM
Stupid. Another redesign and still no second analog stick and the power button is still in the same shitty place. Way to go sony. Maybe by PSP-10,000 youll get your head out of your ass and make a worthwhile redesign.
Superstar90 @ Aug 20th 2008 7:45PM
When will PSP's be over 9000?
Yah, I know...
Shogan @ Aug 20th 2008 8:37PM
SOLD! The one thing that's kept me from getting a PSP is the lack of a PS button. Finally!
Phill @ Aug 20th 2008 9:39PM
SONY WHATS THE REAONS FOR THIS
JUST BRING PSP2 already..
echike @ Aug 21st 2008 9:25PM
Sweet, I'm definitely getting this one lol
Ben @ Aug 22nd 2008 1:18PM
I noticed the slightly different stylized back too. I guess it's safe to say that it was a good idea to wait before buying a new psp (my psp-1001 broke a while ago) though this ain't much of an update.
They can only be making it better, right?..RIGHT?
Digital Tiger @ Aug 22nd 2008 7:19PM
While its not a big enough deal to sell my psp slim, if your planning on buying a psp then waiting until mid October does looks like a good idea.
KiraXD @ Aug 25th 2008 1:02PM
will the mic work with skype? if so.. this is even better... i hate those headsets.
Digital Tiger @ Aug 25th 2008 4:19PM
I wonder what the battery life will be like now that the screen is more brite.
