We're checking with Sony regarding any plans to release this model elsewhere.

This is the SKU generation...
Pureshooter @ Aug 20th 2008 2:19PM
They're SKUing our brains out.
ANTCEP @ Aug 20th 2008 12:06PM
why not tell us this at e3. since there press conference was not to great, maybe with a larger quantity of stuff it could have made it better.
Jakka - Banned again!!1 @ Aug 20th 2008 12:06PM
1. It's overpriced.
2. Who gives a shit if there's no BC?
3. What's the fucking point if I can buy a separate 500GB HDD for less than $150?
Pureshooter @ Aug 20th 2008 12:25PM
1. Agree
2. Go look on ebay at how much people are willing to pay for fully BC on the 60 gb model. It really sucks that Sony is moving backward in functionality. If you don't already own a PS2, then a PS3 without BC has about 1/2 of the available gaming library of a PS3 model with BC. With so many of the upcoming titles being sequels to PS2 games, this is significant to a fair number of people. It's the only reason I got an 80 gb model over a 40 gb model.
3. Agree
FOXHOUND @ Aug 20th 2008 12:30PM
A friend of mine locally just paid $440 for the 60GB last night. So there's still demand for it, Sony.
IMO... due to the way the PS3 is designed(or any console this generation, really!), the hard drive space really doesn't matter to me since I'll end up having to upgrade anyhow.
Hyams @ Aug 20th 2008 12:06PM
I dunno. 160GB sounds a bit over kill.
I mean, I have a European launch 60GB model, filled with songs, videos, pictures, demos, downloaded games, save files and installs, and I still have almost half my hard drive left to me.
Moffka @ Aug 20th 2008 12:12PM
One can never have enough gigglebytes.
Vidikron (FU) @ Aug 20th 2008 12:14PM
I think they must be planning for more full scale games like the upcoming Burnout Paradise release. Then you also have the video store where you can purchase movies and such.
Nate @ Aug 20th 2008 12:18PM
I have a 60 gig with only a few big game installs.... but I do have a bunch of music ripped at high bitrate. Mine's pretty much full. But with a 320 gig drive sitting at $99, I'm not really worried about it.
With how everyone bitches about every 4 gig install, I think a 160 gig drive is the perfect "shut the hell up" response.
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Aug 20th 2008 12:16PM
Supposedly, it will lack PS2 BC.
I am hoping that the new 80gb model will be the budget model and the 160gb will be the premium model with PS2 BC.
philmcphail @ Aug 20th 2008 1:51PM
Yeah, I think its like: new 80 gig (has function of current 40) and the new 160 gig (has function of current 80 which has BC).
Trev @ Aug 20th 2008 12:19PM
I checked a currency converter just to be clear on the numbers as the strange, foreign currency means little to my burger-addled American brain. What converts to $650 US is a pretty steep price tag, but it's also got double the space (more space is always good) AND $100 (actually $102) US worth of stuff on the hard drive. Why not sell it for the equivalent of $550 and not put the stuff on the drive?
Then again, if my PS3 came with Flow, SuperStardust, Bionic Commando, 1942 and Pixeljunk Eden on it, you'd have a hard time convincing me that it was a problem.
Trev @ Aug 20th 2008 12:31PM
Add Warhawk to that list. I forgot it was available as a download title, having gotten the disc version myself. With the right content, this could be an amazing package.
Jakka @ Aug 20th 2008 12:43PM
Yeah but 160GB HDD's are like fucking $80 if you look hard enough so even with all the games, it hardly justifies $650 or even $550 price tag.
Slaziman @ Aug 20th 2008 12:45PM
Don't convert. It's gonna be 450 dollars.
The Wii is 250 euros while it's 250 dollars in the US, same with the other consoles and the full range of iPods. Dollars just get converted in euros.
We just get shafted on our electronics over here.
DarthDavid @ Aug 20th 2008 12:35PM
I wonder how much it's going to cost when it comes to the US (holiday season I'm sure)......I'm just glad I got a 60GB EE (kisses it) when that gets full, I'll just upgrade my hard drive for less than 100 buck-a-roos.
hdbrown465 @ Aug 20th 2008 12:43PM
Yet another SKU by Sony or MS.
Mark Beckford @ Aug 20th 2008 12:55PM
I agree with the top comment, this is the SKU generation, although only one console got it right first time without any multiple skus being needed...definatly seems they were on the ball from the start don't you think?
Dark Virus @ Aug 21st 2008 7:31AM
Still not a reason for me to buy a PS3, what will i do with all those giggle bytes? Any practical use? nope!
Glad I own Mac/PC, i can have as many giggle bytes as i want!
Damy @ Aug 22nd 2008 7:41AM
Well, BC would be cool to have, but let's be honest. Most people who have PS2 games also have a PS2, and if they don't a second hand one costs roughly 60 Euros. So why should you pay roughly 150 Euros more for BC, it doesn't make sense to me.
From what I have heard it will have 6 USB ports as opposed to two and it will also have 3 HDMI inputs (I'll just use one, but still xD). And the 70 Euros of PS store points makes you able to choose what game you want too (so that you don't end up paying for Haze as one package suggests we do with the 80GB). All in all I'll prob wait for this one since the price is the same as the 80GB and it has a better harddrive, four more USB ports, two more HDMI-ports and I may choose whatever game I want. Besides Fallout 3 comes out the same day so I'll prob buy that too while I'm out. ;D
