GC 2008: Killzone 2 multiplayer trailer looks good, sounds too real

Sony, Guerilla – our ~~hats~~ voice headsets are off to you. After all, you tried to deliver the total online play experience with your official Killzone 2 multiplayer trailer at Leipzig. The only problem is ... well, it sounds too much like real mutiplayer. Or maybe someone's polite approximation thereof.

Oh, we like what we see (and say, are those auto-turrets from Aliens?) but the "radio chatter" not only sounds forced – it's totally free of racial slurs and/or comments regarding the sexuality of those playing. Now, how can we expect to take that seriously?

This looks fantastic.
There's no denying the graphics are great.
Guerilla is kinda the x factor here.
They're kinda an uneven developer.
Not to say they're not capable of putting out a AAA title, but I'm curbing my expectations 'til I get hands-on with a demo.

Yeah, but on the PS3 only two people would have a headset on, and one would be feeding static the whole time while the other one is going "can anybody hear me?". Or it would be like MGS Online where you can barely hear anyone because the chat output is so low and you have to switch to using xbox live chat.

they attempted to create realistic multiplayer chatter to accompany the gameplay footage, and according to Randy Nelson, they fell a little short of their goal for the reasons he lists.

Agreed with above. I don't have a 360 (because the games on it come to PC as well) but it has a far, far superior library of games. Any fool can see that.

Besides, a lot of fanboys seem to wish the other console would go out of business. You know what would happen then? A monopoly, in which the manufacturers of the winning console would do the utmost to profit from you with little regards to the quality of the games they'd pump out. Because if you want to play current gen games on a console, it'd be them or nothing.

I only use my PS3 for Rock Band.

The voice chatter was horrible. I don't know if this was intentional or not but it sounded like a machinima where they add in the voices afterwords and almost have a comedic effect because they sound kind of stupid.

The voices... they were a turnoff to me. I don't know if that was just in there as an example or what, but they were a turnoff.

REGARDLESS: I'm still debating whether or not to get a PS3 now, there seems to be a lot higher quality games coming out now for it, like Resistance 2, this, and MGS4 that came out awhile ago, and the rest that I forgot.

That sounds realistic? The dialogue sounds like guys sitting in their living room talking over xbox live. I'm pretty sure if you need a revive, then something fucked up enough happened to you that you're down in fucking pain. There's not enough fear and pain in their voices... it's a war for gods sake... at least make them sound scared.

Sorry, that looked awful. The dev clearly knows nothing about online multiplayer. Since when did people stand in a line and blast uselessly at each other whilst saying "Yeah guys yeah" and "I'm throwing a grenade" in a non-gender specific voice. Sure it looks pretty, and the shooting looks nice but this video is a joke.

I'm looking at whats been shown thus far and thinking that Guerilla could only mess up on:

1: How the rest of the game pans out.
2: The storyline to combine
3: The gameplay mechanics, for example, we don't want to be in the middle of a boss fight and then suddenly the boss gets stuck between a wall or something, as much as that would work to my delight on Hard mode, it would bring my rating of the game down.

I hope this game does well, my PS3 is in need of some Gears type action and if this does well, it will be that remedy :)

Is it just me, or is the lack of blood/gore in this game not appealing enough?

In Gears of War, when you shoot someone with the sniper in the head, their head pops of and you can see the blood splash and gush out and you can see a part of their spinal cord, etc.

Resident Evil 5's doing it, Fallout 3 is doing...

Don't get me wrong, I think Killzone 2 has better graphics than any game I've seen. It's really amazing. Yet this lack of a feature which makes the feeling of 'war' more immersive and believable in a videogame fails to get me sold on this.

I can finally say that I've seen a PS3 exclusive that I'm a little bit jealous of. I'd be full-on pissed if the d-pad/left analog locations were swapped. In their present locations, though, PS3 FPS games tend to make me look like I'm having a thumb civil war. I tend to center the last joint of my thumbs in the middle of the sticks. Curse these long spindly digits! KZ2 multiplayer looks great, though...

Xbox Live? I just played some TFC and it was worse than Xbox Live and you have to type that crap out for the most part. And how can I believe that this is a real game of MP when everyone is bunched up together like morons... you spread out or you risk getting 'naded or C4ed.
