GC 2008: Resident Evil 5 co-op clips

We feel terribly sorry for the first man to come waltzing down the stairs in this video. No doubt venturing into the kitchen for an early morning snack, he's suddenly confronted by two gun-toting interlopers. "Rubber bullet!" he screams, in the unrequited hope that the firearms pointed at him will spare his life. A moment later, he's shot by both. Simultaneously. Oh, who knew that co-op could be so cruel?

Wow!!!This looks pretty sic!!I hope the game can live up to the hype and offer something a bit more than the 4th one! This offers some very strong hope that it can mix some stuff up with the two main characters!

So, is this over xbox live, or can we play it co-op on the same console? Either way, it's a really cool idea.

The way the two characters split paths leads me to believe that co-op on the same console would require the use of split-screen. That doesn't fill one with much hope.

Seriously, what's happened to local co-op in the last few years? Some of us don't need virtual friends to play games with, we have real friends sitting next to us on the couch itching to play along. Local co-op please!

Split-screen is better than no local option at all.

Game|Life said there was a local co-op option (per an E3 booth attendant) but so far no other blog has mentioned it. I'm really hoping it makes it in.

ARRGH! Why must the people who play these games be so awful? They were just staring at that chainsaw guy without even shooting him! And then Chris goes and gets decapitated. Nice work.

...the game looks awesome though.

ok, it looks awesome, no big surprise, but still good to see.
however, is anyone else a little disappointed by the fact that they seemed to just copy the death animations from 4? I really don't mind that it is obviously more of the smae, 4 is fantastic and i think they are doing the right thing by refining that model, but i already got tired of watching the line of zombies/spaniards fall like they were punched in the gut, and it's really obvious in the second vid where the sniper rifle goes through two simultaneously... it just feels a little lazy... the go through the trouble of making a graphical effect to show walls getting shot at, with no shoot through mind you, but they dont seem to do any more that RE4 in terms of positional shot discretion (re4 is great, i'm glad again)... All i'm saying is that this entire "next-gen console" thing feels like a 1.5 to me, not just the 2 gamecubes + duct tape. Sure all of the games and updates have sharper (though darker and harder to see) graphics, and the worlds are bigger and more intricate, but i am still waiting to have a "next-gen" experience that really was not possible before... cause really, if the ps2 or xbox or anything just had a higher "cart sizes" (for lack of abetter term) i don't see what couldn't be done here.

alright rant off.
the game is going to be awesome.

(ok rant back on: i realize they are 'zombies', but there is still a whole lot of walking slowly towards a bottleneck to be shot... but to be fair, as noted above, the players weren't so great... never forget the old adage... "never bring a knife to a chainsaw fight" :)

The RE series always used it's own custom engines.
But I don't blame you for confusing them, all friggin' next gen engines are starting to look alike.

I forgot how exhausting RE4 was until I watched this clip. The series has turned in a great direction: it's still really intense, but instead of the "omg I have 5 bullets and can't see around the corner unless I move too close" style of play, it's "omg I have to make some kind of strategic decision every 5 seconds or my friend is going to die" etc etc style of play. I think it's a lot more intense, and therefore scary.
