GC 2008: Guitar Hero World Tour to work with all instruments on PS2, 360 and PS3

Now, what does this mean for the Wii version of the game? We have absolutely no idea. But hey, what are you complaining about: It's got Miis in it! Isn't that enough?

That picture doesn't get old.
Monkeys Suck @ Aug 20th 2008 10:35AM
Come on, just announce it for wii. Even if it's unlikely for the older games to work cause of no patching, I'd gladly get GHWT and RB2...we'll ignore the old RB for now...
Nightvortez @ Aug 20th 2008 10:45AM
Wait, wait, does that mean if I buy World Tour I can play Guitar Hero 2 and 1 on the PS3?
The_Punisher @ Aug 20th 2008 10:47AM
I thought the same thing, but probably not. I've moved on anyway.
Hafk @ Aug 20th 2008 3:51PM
A "Legacy" feature would be very nice to have for the new PS3 controllers. It would encourage those who are sticking by their PS2 because they don't want to blow their wallet on a giant set of new instruments and miss out on Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero 2, and Guitar Hero encore: Rocks the 80s. Honestly, that's why I still play my PS2. Hold on Loosely is just THAT important.
Also, if they could use standard USB adapters and try to make their newer games PS2 instrument compatible, it would be nice. The PS3 would be the best PRG (Plastic Rock Game) system if you could use the amazing SG controller.
The_Punisher @ Aug 20th 2008 10:46AM
That was very nice of Activision. It is very nice to hear that they are owrking to get everything up and running. I am now going to be buying the game only as well as Rock Band 2, and use my Rock Band 1 PS3 instruments for them both. This is excellent news.
ice~ @ Aug 20th 2008 10:49AM
i'm getting sick of rythm games, not that i want to =(
Jon A. @ Aug 20th 2008 10:51AM
Remeber, the Guitar Hero for the Wii uses the Wii remote as an interface.
Rock Band for the Wii uses USB.
Unfortunately, they are just not going to be compatible. EVAR!!!!!!
DanB91 @ Aug 20th 2008 11:01AM
Yea, I don't know what possessed HMX to make the instruments not an extension of the WiiMote.
Monkeys Suck @ Aug 20th 2008 11:14AM
Even so, you do realize it could look for both interfaces, right? It is possible, all they have to do is work out an agreement. What IS impossible is GH3 and RB compatible with each other's instruments, as there is no patching.
Jon A. @ Aug 20th 2008 11:27AM
GH:WT is coming out in 2 months and Rock Band is coming out in 3. While anything could happen, don't expect it.
DanB91 @ Aug 20th 2008 10:59AM
Update your chart joystiq! Some of the instruments on the PS3 chart still have question marks
copa @ Aug 20th 2008 11:02AM
This game is supposed to be released in two months. I know they did a couple of stage demos, but have they allowed anyone hands on time with this game yet?
JJ Rooster @ Aug 20th 2008 11:54AM
IGN has a feature on it today with some gameplay vids.

Thats it. Guitar Hero gets my monies. No way in hell am I gonna buy 2 sets of instruments just to have access to more songs (or DLC). How hard can it be to make wireless instruments? Just take the Wiimotes bluetooth technology and have the instruments connect off of that. Oh wait, that would require Harmonix to put effort towards making the Wii version, instead of making a glorified PS2 port.
Bacon @ Aug 20th 2008 11:12AM
Yay! They did something right!
h8rain @ Aug 20th 2008 11:20AM
Do not praise them. This is the same company that blocked the GH guitars from working with RB on PS3. They announce this only in the wake of Sony PR saying they are going to make it happen.
ScottG13 @ Aug 20th 2008 11:49AM
Good, good, good. Get this junk working together and EXPAND the market for this product even further.
Did Activision hire a halfway intelligent person? Maybe Nintendo and Activision are swapping executives and that's why they have Cammy.
Radie @ Aug 20th 2008 4:23PM
ZING!
You know, normally I ignore the urge to take shots at the Wii, but I really hate when people act like they are getting screwed because no companies care about making anything of quality for the Wii.
YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!
Which really makes it even more funny if someone bought one for like $600 during the holidays. Oh man, how do those guys keep from shooting themselves in the face?
Nintendo is killing itself. It routinely puts out RIDICULOUSLY stripped down games in the name of doing us a service so that our grandmothers can play (for what, like 3 minutes, one time maybe?). They have the ability to put good games on the Wii (see Mario, Zelda) but they dont want or need to, so they dont.
Sound familiar...

How will the Rock Band drums work with GH:WT?
Hafk @ Aug 20th 2008 3:42PM
The game is programmed to read the controller and merge the note track into four columns instead of five.
This has been out since E3! Do your research, people!
Colin @ Aug 20th 2008 1:35PM
Wait...I'm confused. Does this mean I would be able to get GH:WT on PS3 and use those instruments on RB2 on 360?
Poke4Christ @ Aug 20th 2008 2:06PM
I'm pretty sure the answer to that is no. I think this just means 360 WT will work with any 360 instrument and so on.
Radie @ Aug 20th 2008 4:13PM
Will this include the Ion Drum Rocker?
https://www.drumrocker.com/index.php
If so then, I will get both RB2 and GH:WT.
Finally smartening up, eh Activision? What is next? Regularly released DLC?
Hey, I can dream, right?
Radie @ Aug 20th 2008 4:16PM
Yeah, shame on Harmonix. If they dont treat the Wii like the respectable console that it is then other companies might follow suit and not put ANY effort into their Wii games either. It would start a terrible trend.
The Wii is awesome and clearly all the developers agree as you can tell from the great software that they keep puting out for it. I cant wait to get my hands...
Oh I almost made it. I almost made it through that whole post without laughing. You see the beauty of my post here is that the normal Wii player either isnt old enough to read it or isnt bright enough to pick up the sarcasm, thus they will not be angered. Meanwhile, gamers who actually care that their games having things like polish and features and functional controllers will see this for the mockery that it is meant to be and they will laugh. Then they will go and play a video game, while the Wii players will try to play a video game but will realize that it is futile as their system only plays "almost video games". Shame, really.
Makeseven @ Aug 24th 2008 4:37PM
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWN3D!
Evilgod @ Nov 7th 2008 7:08AM
