Microsoft: Grand Theft Auto IV DLC coming this Autumn
In the midst of the Leipzig Games Convention, Microsoft has issued a statement (via IGN) about the much-ballyhooed and long-delayed Grand Theft Auto IV downloadable content. Said Microsoft, "In autumn there will be news from Liberty City; the first episodes of GTA IV will be available for download exclusively on Xbox LIVE, underlining Xbox 360's leadership role in the field of digital entertainment."
While we're fairly certain "news from Liberty City" is indicative of an Autumn launch, the "news" could just be a more confirmed release date for later this year. Take-Two previously noted that the DLC is expected in Fiscal Q109 (between November 1, 2008, and January 31, 2009). We've put in a call to Microsoft for clarification, who may or may not be too busy booking tickets to San Andreas. Update: Heard from Microsoft who confirm that the exclusive DLC itself is coming this Fall.

Sweet. Been waiting for this so I can play so more GTA.
WhoMe @ Aug 20th 2008 3:41PM
Seriously, do people still care about this game? Will they in autumn or after? They should have had this ready like a month or two after release.
I mean the game was ok, but way overhyped since it was just and old GTA with newer graphics (with crummy animation at that). Heck, they even took stuff out from previous games and the city is smaller.
I finished the game and I wouldn't want to return to it, and I certainly don't wanna pay for it.
jellybean @ Aug 20th 2008 2:03PM
Hopefully soon.
DiddlyKong @ Aug 20th 2008 2:04PM
Let's see spring, summer, fall, and winter. Where does autumn fit in. Is that when the leaves change color cause in Texas that don't happen here Bubba.
Moorio - XBL: peacebyanymeans @ Aug 20th 2008 2:14PM
No one cares about Texas except for Texans.
syrik zero @ Aug 20th 2008 2:43PM
Who still says Autumn at all? Haha
davethinks @ Aug 20th 2008 2:58PM
No one cares about Texans but Texas
Jakka @ Aug 20th 2008 3:18PM
Are you saying that Texans are "nobody"?
dramamoose @ Aug 20th 2008 7:57PM
Have you read Texas's legislation? How about their death penalty statistics? Obviously, Texas doesn't even care about Texans.
Tiptup300 @ Aug 20th 2008 11:33PM
Texans are big loud guys with cowboy hats. Although the best texan is Hank Hill. He's more texan then YOU WILL EVER BE!

Hmmm, let's see. Oh that's right EVERYONE.
Everyone else in the world except north americans.

So I wonder when the PS3 content will come out. When GTAIV was first announced Rockstar spoke of DLC for PS3 and 360. Unless Microsoft paid them for the exclusive DLC and so that Sony wouldn't get any later on as well... dick move.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Aug 20th 2008 2:08PM
from what I understand, both the ps3 and the 360 will be getting dlc content. It's just that the 360 will also be getting content that will continue the story line. the ps3 will not be getting that content.
Geoffrey Sperl @ Aug 20th 2008 2:35PM
Look closely at the wording:
"...the first episodes of GTA IV will be available for download exclusively on Xbox LIVE..."
The key word there is "download." Note that they don't say the content will be exclusive to LIVE, just that the download will be exclusive.
Now, that doesn't mean the content is coming to the PS3, but marketing wording is always handled in a very careful way... and that wording is clearly something they took time with.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Aug 20th 2008 2:45PM
I don't really see a difference? I mean it looks to me that it says you'll be able to only download the content on the 360.
rv @ Aug 20th 2008 2:05PM
I wonder what the size/scope will be. I will be severely dissapointed if its just a couple of new missions.
Marty @ Aug 20th 2008 2:09PM
Long-delayed? Was it supposed to be here already? Did I miss something?
baby sea tuna @ Aug 20th 2008 2:14PM
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it should've been out by now.
baby sea tuna @ Aug 20th 2008 2:12PM
This better be huge. 50 million dollars worth of huge.
BIGGEN (LIVE-PSN: BIGGEN1103) @ Aug 20th 2008 2:13PM
this, to me, is far too long after this game has launched. i mean, later this year i'll be worried more about spore, gears 2, and other such NEW games.
is the dlc free? (i know, probably a REALLY stupid question)
j.howlett @ Aug 20th 2008 2:13PM
if the new stuff is really compelling i'm pretty sure i'll pick gta4 up for cheap when i get my own 360. as much as i like the game and niko with the graphics, the gameplay falls short of all i could do in san andreas and even vice city stories.
Woz @ Aug 20th 2008 2:14PM
This is about 2 months to late.
Jacksons @ Aug 20th 2008 2:21PM
Oh, right! ...Did anyone else completely forget about this? I hope it doesn't come out at the same time as gears2/resistance2/banjo/lbp/deadspace/motorstorm2/mirrorsedge/left4dead/princeofpersia/and on and on and on...
Okay, you know what? Everything in 2009 could be delayed to 2010 and I think I'd be alright.
Jonafun @ Aug 20th 2008 2:26PM
I am really psyched to have an excuse to pull this game back out. I just didn't really get into the multi-player.
Immortal Technique PSN: johnnynumber5 @ Aug 20th 2008 2:29PM
Its great that it is finally coming but at this point its to little to late. I know all the 360 only guys were hyped and some multiplatform owners as well thinking this would probably come out just after launch. We still have no idea what this "episodic content" even is. If it is really good i will just pick up a copy of GTA IV for my 360 when then eventually release a version with all of the extra episodic content ala Oblivion.

R* has done enough up to now to prove their professionalism and expertise. When the DLC arrives, it will be worth it. Sure, not everyone will be satisfied, but not everyone has realistic expecations, either. It may be too little, too late for YOU, but I certainly don't feel that way. I'll be playing GTA until my eyesight fails.
Murray @ Aug 20th 2008 2:42PM
I'm not spamming you guys - I talk all about this in episode 4 of my podcast! So check it out, it should be online by friday! My site is HOT http://ouruavisonline.libsyn.com/
AwesomeTown @ Aug 20th 2008 2:58PM
Your mom is hot.
Vcize @ Aug 20th 2008 2:58PM
I got that stupid glitch where I can't finish the game because one of the last missions won't "trigger". To fix it, I have to disable autosave and start alllllll the way over at the beginning (not happening).
So this DLC had better not pick up at the end of the storyline, which the stupid game won't let me play.
Markez @ Aug 20th 2008 4:05PM
I'm not a fan of the emerging trend here. DLC needs to hit nearer to their initial game releases.
Bring Down the Sky would've been so much more compelling to me if it weren't for the fact that I'd finished the game long before I got around to the DLC.
When the hell is there going to be more Mass Effect DLC anyway?
I guess GTAIV DLC will be schweet, but I was so, so bored with the game after awhile it felt like a chore to finish it.
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Aug 20th 2008 4:29PM
I hope the DLC will come to the PC version as well, since it is also Games for Windows LIVE.

I think Nico would have a lot of fun in 2008 Vice City. . .
We can only dream.
Miguel @ Aug 20th 2008 8:43PM
"In autumn there will be news from Liberty City"
I think that statement makes it very clear that it is not vice city, san andreas, or any new city. It will likely be the exact same GTA IV but with new missions and a new character similar to what Liberty City Stories was for GTA III.
If you think about it, Liberty City Stories sold for $20 when it came out on the PS2 which is likely what this will sell for.
