PSP-3000 also coming to North America this fall
If those promises of a sexy new screen and built-in mic in the PSP-3000 at the Leipzig Games Convention left you North Americans feeling left out, fear not: Sony has just let us know that the system will also be coming stateside, providing all of you the chance to buy the PSP ... again.
It'll be available both in the previously announced Ratchet and Clank Entertainment Pack on Oct. 14 and in a new PSP Core Pack coming in November with:
- Updated Piano Black PSP system
- 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo
- Everyday Shooter PLAYSTATION Network voucher

damn I want a God of War Version of this.....lol

If only Sony could coerce publishers to send nearly as many **GAMES** Japan's getting to the handheld here in North America; in the same way they "mediated" the whole ROCKBAND/GUITAR HERO debacle.
...Then and only then, I'd consider getting rid of my PSP-2000 and purchase of a PSP-3000. :p At least then I'd be assured it would be supported for its original purpose: Gaming.
Arttemis @ Aug 20th 2008 12:50PM
@FOXHOUND - Considering the 3000's new features over the Slim, I doubt you'd really need to upgrade even if there were a swarm of new titles.
Unless you really like using Skype with a built-in mic, you're not really missing out on anything.
I'm guessing this new addition is just supposed to entice new customers (or perhaps those with the 1000) to buy.
FOXHOUND @ Aug 20th 2008 1:22PM
No doubts on the PSP-3000 being for the new adopters. :\
I just had hoped they'd hold off on the 3000 model until a bit better features could be added. I still don't think a second analog thumbpad would fare very well at this point either. Save that for 3-4 years from now in an entirely new handheld to compete with Nintendo.

They really do like screwing early adopters. I am so tired of buying a product and they bring a high quality version out. Maybe if they brought out PSP 2 but instead they pump out more of PSP 1's. But I should no better nothing lasts anymore.
Arttemis @ Aug 20th 2008 12:54PM
Technology always advances... and it's *most critical* in smaller, handheld electronics where space is highest priority.
Have you even looked at the new features added to this model? You're not missing out on much.
Calm down.

This is for people like me who are still on the fence over getting one, not people who already have one. I think this will probably, finally get me to buy one. I've been wanting one more and more as the system got games that I actually wanted.
Moptimus Slime @ Aug 20th 2008 12:43PM
OMG SEXY!! I want NOW. Wait, is that new piano black or the 3000? Also, can Everyday shooter run on the PSP, like Echochrome?
Christian Walters @ Aug 20th 2008 12:43PM
So, I guess that Sony figures that they should confuse MORE customers with ENDLESS SKU revisions of their crappy handheld aswell eh? Come on Sony....this is getting out of damn hand. Maybe 2-3 different versions over a couple of years...not months! With this new PSP coming out, by my count anyways, that brings the total current gen Sony SKUs to=9(including this and the new PS3 one).
koehler83 @ Aug 20th 2008 12:46PM
What do you care? You only need to buy one.
Christian Walters @ Aug 20th 2008 12:53PM
EXACTLY! There should be ONE revision on the market at a time! I own a PSP-1001, from wwaaayyy back in the day, and when I got it, it was THE ONLY PSP availible...I didnt have to choose between the two or even three of them..which is what im saying, only people in the know will even understand the differences between the different versions, which=general customer confusion and aggravation.
koehler83 @ Aug 20th 2008 12:44PM
I see now that they've made it Pandora proof, they dont mind giving out REAL memory sticks with every system. Kinda humorous.
juju187 @ Aug 20th 2008 12:58PM
4gb ms very nice lots of *Ahem homebrew can fit on there...
Draco Basileus @ Aug 20th 2008 12:59PM
Still not enough to make me replace my launch PSP-1000.
It's been 3 and 1/2 years since the PSP launched. I wish Sony would get around to start talking about a true 2nd generation version.
Blazur @ Aug 20th 2008 1:07PM
They should have called this the PSP-9000.

I'm so glad I waited. I wanted to buy a PSP to compliment my PS3, but I hadn't had a chance to.
syrik zero @ Aug 20th 2008 4:03PM
I feel the same way! This is awesome! I hope they come out with a Parasite Eve edition though... I loved those games and can't wait for the next!
ronaldhennessy @ Aug 20th 2008 1:32PM
I wonder what will PSP-2000 folks will do without a PS home button? Will there be an option for 2000 and 1000 folk by pressing select or a different button combo?
emagius @ Aug 20th 2008 1:59PM
The old PSPs (1000, 2000) have a home button, but instead of having a PS icon on it, it is labeled with the word "HOME".
Sircolby45 @ Aug 20th 2008 3:10PM
1 joystick = fail
Strike Man @ Aug 20th 2008 1:44PM
Is it coming with a 1GB or a 4GB memory stick?
Joystiq is listing it as 4GB, but the MTV Multiplayer blog is saying it's a 1GB.
In the words of Martha Stewart, "What the dilly yo?"
mocax @ Aug 20th 2008 1:53PM
There'll be games that won't work on older PSP?
Josh @ Aug 20th 2008 4:12PM
Of course not; that'd be crazy.
These PSP revisions are the same as the occasional revisions that all PlayStation systems receive. Really, they're not very important.
jimmygotsmack @ Aug 20th 2008 3:23PM
So they took the ps3, make a crap load of different models strategy?
Josh @ Aug 20th 2008 4:10PM
Release the system by itself, drop the price to $150 at most, and then we'll talk.
