"we've yet to hear any change on the $279 Arcade"

My vision may suck, but the Radio Shack ad scan that's included with this post shows:

"Save $80! XBOX 360 Arcade Was $279.99 (Now) $199"

So that means that the individual HDD prices will also be dropping soon, right? Right?

60GB starter pack (HD, 3 month live, headset) - $99
120GB HD - $149.99

Or you could find a used 20GB on ebay for around $30.

Seems like good prices other than the elite seems dumb being that it'll be cheaper to piecemeal one together.

You could buy a broken drive off of ebay for ~$15 including shipping, then buy a 120GB drive (has to be this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136072) for $65 (and free shipping.
There you've got a 120GB 360 HDD for about $80... cheaper if you can get someone to give you a broken 360 HDD (as long as the HDD is the only thing not working on it).

Great news I guess, I already own a 360 but I'd rather see a price cut on those HDDs (mine's almost full 494mb free of 20gb)and other peripherals as well but still great news.

I do wonder why MS refuses to lower those overpriced hard drives. I mean, sell em for less, so people will fill em with content that they will buy from you!

How?

I have a 20GB that isn't even close to full.

Gamesaves and arcade games don't that up that much room. Don't need the demos after you buy the games.

And all of the media is stored (and streamed) from the PC - like it is with all my other non-game entertainment devices and perephials.

I am looking to pick up a couple arcades after the price drop to use as additional media extenders.

they either need to get rid of the arcade, add a 20gb
hard drice and drop it to $250, or drop it to $199 to really undermine the wii's price point and sell some consoles.

This should help sales big time against the PS3. It was hard to justify a 360 for a while when it was only $50 cheaper than a PS3, when the PS3 has built-in wi-fi, and didn't fail nearly as much as the 360.

I would rather see the 60GB at $275 or even $249, to really secure a solid 2nd place for MS.

I'd buy one soon, but that money is saved for Heroes Season 2 (next Tuesday!)

By cutting the price of the arcade by $80 and cutting the prices of the 60 GB and 120 GB models by only $50, isn't Microsoft really just raising the prices of the HDDs by $30?

the price is almost right for me but i'll pass for now. i want the elite at $350 or less and hopefully i can get the helmet version of halo for under $60 ( saw it online for around $50 somewhere ). the gears reissue is pretty cheap also. i'm sure there are other older exclusives i might want along with whats coming up.

Now they need to drop the price of the standalone 120GB HDD to something more reasonable. I mean, I can buy a 1TB USB external HDD for $200, it's pretty ridiculous that MS wants us to pay $180 or whatever for a 120GB HDD. Come on, MS, lower it to something more in line with how much a new GAME costs or something.

Now that we can rip our games to the hdd we need a MASSIVE drop on the stand alone hdd. A 120 gig external should only set me back about $50-75. Hello MS, anyone home?

$60, tops. I just picked up a 160GB for $42. MS, buying them by the hundreds of thousands better be able to negotiate a better price than that, which still leaves plenty of room for profit.

I may seriously consider picking up an Arcade for local multiplayer. I've got my wife hooked on coop games, but split screen just doesn't cut it some days.

Wow, so we have an Xbox Arcade model for $199 (nice) and a 120GB hard drive module for $189 (wtf).

I like how Microsoft pushes the digital distribution of HD movies and other content, yet will rob you when purchasing a larger hard drive.

Usually these things are printed well in advance of their use so that they are all distributed by the time they are in effect. We saw this back in July with the K-Mart ads showing the pro model firesale.
