Genso Suikoden Tierkreis is a new entry or spinoff in Konami's Suikoden series ("Tierkreis" is German for "Zodiac"). The name showed up in a trademark registration recently, but the platform was unknown until now. Take that, other platforms, we've got this one!
This game uses a similar look to the Final Fantasy remakes: chibi-ish 3D characters on lovely, detailed backgrounds. The story is wildly different from other Suikodens, starting as the assembled crew of 108 heroes is already in combat with the villain, and all but four are defeated. Your job is to gather the group again.
As if Dragon Quest IX didn't already seal the deal, it seems fairly clear that the DS is the platform for RPGs this generation.

Yes! I love Suikoden, not an influence on my name however as that is based off of an anime character.

FOOK YEAH! I knew I would not be disappointed by buying my DS 6 months ago. I am a huge RPG'r and I bought the DS for exactly that. I am happy to see so much available (Final Fantasies, Manas, etc.) and coming (Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quests, Rhapsody, etc). I love Suikoden and hope to see it here on our shores. Now all we need is to convince some nice publishers to localize the Xenosaga 1 & 2 compilation (and to port over the existing/coming PSP Final Fantasies and Star Oceans...). RPGs are few and far between on the next gen consoles (although we have a nice batch coming up - Vesperia, Infinite, Last Remnant, etc) and I'm glad I have my DS here to keep me satisfied.

YES YES YES YES! The DS is definitely the perfect console to bring this series back to it's fantastic roots. I've been PRAYING for this one, and if it turns out to be anywhere as amazing as Suikoden II (best storyline in an rpg, no loading times, fast battles) then I'm gonna be even happier about this!

Wait... gukid, Suikoden II had FAST BATTLES? Dude, that wouldn't be true even if you were playing on an emulator at 120 fps or something. Suikoden II's battles were slow and tedious as hell.

DS is the new PS2, excellent game library-wise.

Outstanding news. If this is even half as good as SuiV it'll be the best DS game ever.
That said I wish the characters kept the SuiII look. The environments are gorgeous, but I hate that chibi look...

Too bad I'm not a fan of Dragon Quest games. I don't really own that many RPGs for the DS. All I've got are FF3, FF4, Pokemon Diamond, and Revenant Wings...and Dual Strike. But the last two are strategy games more than RPGs.
At any rate, I've never played a game from this series before but I'm intrigued.

The DS is pretty nice for RPGs, and as an RPG nerd, I am pleased.
HOWEVER, the last part of 2008 looks pretty busy, and as far as I can tell, a lot of games are being pushed back due to insane competition. I'm fairly certain that the RPGs that have already been announced for the DS will probably be spread out until 2010.
I never thought I would say this, but I think we RPG nerds are getting too much of a good thing at this point.

This is goddamn rubbish. If there's one series that doesn't belong on a handheld, (not just the DS), it's Suikoden.
Konami really has gone down the shitter this gen.

Wait. Why would you even say something like this? This is terrific news in every way. The only reason i can think for you to say this is if you're unfamiliar with this series roots on the original PS.
