Why you buggin? Tyranids playable in Dawn of War II

It's time to load your storm bolter and wrap up your last prayer to the Emperor, cuz we're huntin' Tyranids! IGN has confirmed that everyone's favorite galactic bugs will be clawing their way onto Relic's forthcoming Dawn of War sequel, not only as an opponent but as a playable race as well.

The blood news was spilled during the Leipzig Games Convention by Dawn of War II senior designer Philippe Boulle, who noted that the space insects behave as "a single organism, not an army of individuals," and that the swarm is composed of disposable "meat shields" and more specialized alien troops serving the Tyranid Hive Mind. For more, check out the pre-rendered pure awesome below while we wait for the bugs to digest their fill of Space Marine, Ork and Eldar in early 2009.

Tyranids were released by Games Workshop in 1990. Starcraft was released in 1998. Games Workshop then issued a full addendum to the Tyranids in 1993.

I love people who make retarded comments like this. Blizzard is the king of jacking/copying stuff (this is not a bad thing), but by all means they are hardly original. They are just the best at taking something already done and making better.

Spacehulk, Deathwing & Genestealer were awesome tabletop games, the tyrannids are brutal creations brought to life magnificently by games workshop, (originally in Alien though) they are videogame fodder if there ever was any.

Reckon a patriarch will surface? would like to rupture its sack with a heavy bolter and smite it, could torture its bretherin with a miasma from the grey knights too while I am at it.

I knew it was coming but confirmation like this make its the most glorious day of my life. This is the best gaming news i've heard in a long time. I love Starcraft, but i also LOVE Dawn of War, and i'm sorry to say, that with Tyranids now available in DOW2 (i had a 2000pt Tyranid army) there is every chance that IMO, DAWN OF WAR 2 > Starcraft 2!

Frackin' about time! Now maybe we'll see some modders make a Space Hulk mod for DoWII that captures the table top game perfectly. I used to play an old PC version of Space Hulk that was pretty good for its day, but hell to play (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lB3HqMyS1lc).
