I would love to see the Shadow Hearts series on DS, maybe with a cool touch Judgment Ring mechanic...

Knights of the Old Republic does sound like a good idea, but I'm hoping Bioware makes a Mass Effect game first. Also any type of Fallout on the DS would be killer.

The Mana series of course: Secret Of Mana, Seiken Densetsu 3, Legend Of Mana

Illusion Of Gaia and Terranigma might be good too.

Super Mario RPG, Secret of Mana or Illusion of Gaia. Or maybe Secret of Evermore.

And please, give them the ChronoTrigger treatment - no major overhauls.

I would love an Odin Sphere port or remake or spin-off or sequel. Also, maybe some Phantasy Star?

Unfortunately, the developers for these two franchises seem to reserve them for Sony platforms -- for the moment at least. One can dream.

While not really an RPG, it does have RPG qualities, I'd have to say
the Ogre Battle series. I'm talking traditional Ogre Battle like
March of the Black Queen or Person of Lordly Caliber, not something
like the FFT knockoff that was Knight of Lodis.

My foolish little dream has always been Persona DS. Sadly, it's one franchise that couldn't really make the jump to a graphically-weaker system like the DS and retain its unique style.

There are rumours of a Persona on the PSP.

There are also rumours that Etrian Odyssey was a test run for the system that would become Persona DS, though that's REALLY hard to swallow.

But Persona PSP seems plausible. In the mean time, Persona 4 is coming out in December on the PS2. Are you pumped? I am.

As so completely not in the position to buy a PSP right now as I am, portable Persona would demand that I still buy one. To be honest, I'm glad that it's still just a rumor.

I am, however, BEYOND psyched about Persona 4. I'm so glad it's coming out in December and not another month because that's the only month for the rest of the year that doesn't have a DS game releasing that I'm interested in. It will eat my entire Christmas break.

I think Persona could work on the DS. Zelda did the cell shading thing just fine ... or they could do what they did to Xenosaga ... and I agree with the others, bring that one stateside too.

Others worth mentioning:
Albert Odessy (Sega Saturn version)
Lunar 2
Vay
Dragon Warrior/Quest 1
Final Fantasy 1 & 6
Phantasy Star 1 (like the Japanese PS2 Ages version)
Soul Blazer, Zelda 1, TMNT4, Castlevania SOTN, Space Megaforce, Actraiser 1, Keith Kourage and Faxanadu (not an RPGs but awesome)

How about some new IP? I'd love to play an RPG that didn't have a number attached to it. Something new, or at least slightly new. And NOT developed by Nintendo, either.

Preferably Level-5 would do this. I love those guys.

It's already been done. And there is still a high level of probability that it's going to suck. Though I want desperately for Dark Brotherhood to be amazingly awesome, I'm not getting my hopes up.

There's a high probability that it will be awesome, too. BioWare is developing it, and from what I've heard about them, they don't make crap games.

Well, technically BioWare is the developer, but they actually formed a new studio to do the development. I'm not sure how many actual BioWare core/original members are part of this new handheld group. But as they are providing oversight, hopefully it won't suck.

Atelier Iris. Heck, they can probably just use the sprites they already have and make a new game since the game was 2D to begin with.

Oh, and Dark Cloud too. :)

A new Lunar with the quality of the original games and a translation rivaling Working Designs'.

Barring that, a new Mana game with Legend's gorgeous watercolors would be outstanding.

I also wouldn't say no to a new Square-made Super Mario RPG.

For the record, I couldn't care less about Mother. Mildly fun, but ridiculously overrated.

But seriously I've always wanted to see a new single player Ultima game, and if they could do it on the DS that would be awesome (Richard Garriot make more Ultima!).

Shenmue was awesome.

It should be ported to something, at least. No one bought a Dreamcast, and the only great DC game that hasn't been ported is Shenmue (Chu Chu Rocket is on GBA, Skies of Arcadia is on Gamecube, and Grandia II is on PS2.)

I'd like to see a new mana game which is exactly like Secret of Mana in several ways:
Several characters in the party at once, even in single player.
A story that feels a bit retro -- no twenty minute introductions before you get control of your character. There should be some action no more than 2 minutes after you hit the new game button.
Similar combat system, with cooperative multiplayer for several players. Internet play if at all possible (how is there not a single RPG/hack and slash on the market for the most popular game system ever that does internet play?

So, I want a game like Secret of Mana for DS, but with new characters and a new story, and internet play.

Most of all, I want another Golden Sun, and the DS would be perfect for it!

I also want the Secret of Mana remake that everyone else mentioned, as well as a FFVI remake. (Mother is of course included in this list of remakes that I want ^^) And even a remake of Lennus (but that's even less likely then Mother)

A new IP would be nice, but I also would like them to make a new quality installment of Mana (Children looks nice, but has very little sustenance), Lunar (dragon song isn't bad, it's just not up to par with the other Lunar games), A new Lennus, Lufia, and Breath of Fire would be nice too.

And for the love of all things beautiful, Namco bring Tales of.. over to NA (i mean the DS installments that you seem to be ignoring!)

Otherwise I'm pretty satisfied, the DS has been getting lots of RPG love, so I'm not complaining. The above are just my suggestions ;)

I'd love to see Daggerfall redone for the DS. I also loved the original Gothic on the PC. What made these games great were their worlds and how you interacted with them. While the DS can't stand up graphically, there really isn't any reason a compelling RPG that doesn't feel as if it were written in the 90's can't be created.

Also, some remakes of the old SSR games, like Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday. Now that was a great game.

Elder Scrolls, or Paper Mario/ Mario and Luigi. Not just a remake, or a crappy port, but a whole new game designed to take advantage of the DS hardware.
