GC 2008: GTA IV adds replay editor, polish on PC

Rockstar has laid out details on some of the additions and improvements in store for the PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV. Eurogamer reports that the version it was shown at Leipzig featured more realistic lighting, animation, and "a much higher level of detail on both characters and environments."
More intriguing is a replay editor. According to Rockstar, the PC version of GTA IV is always recording the previous 30 seconds worth of gameplay, so you can pause at any time and really soak up the calamity that's just transpired. It will also be possible to tweak the footage by means of filters, cuts, and repositioning of the camera. The completed clip can be combined with other 30 second snippets into one long, personal crime epic to share with friends via the Rockstar Social Club website.
The PC version will also expand on the consoles' 16-player online component, although the extent of what's planned is largely unknown beyond there being more filters for finding specific match types.

Oh wow, I may actually pick this up for my PC if my parents will let me. (I didn't think they'd let me get it for the 360 but if they don't let me get it for PC I can always pirate it and buy some other Rockstar game so they still get my money.)

Fascinating logic.
j.howlett @ Aug 21st 2008 9:55PM
you don't even have the game and it's a bad influence

Rockstar can't really complain, GTA taught me that stealing is not only okay, but fun. It's their own fault if I steal their software.

It will also have sweet mods... can't wait to start killing pokemon with goku... IN HD!
KeenCommander @ Aug 21st 2008 9:39PM
I'm more excited about when someone recreates Vice City and San Andreas for it.
Superstar90 @ Aug 21st 2008 9:54PM
Yeah lol, I know San Andreas's (still one of my most played games, best one IMO) city map like the back of my hand. I hope someone recreates it, with CJ!

I can't wait to go run over hookers with the tumbler.
Obie @ Aug 21st 2008 9:39PM
Goddammit...ya know how many times a replay would have been awesome in GTA4? That time I had the hooker in the car, plowing through central park with a chopper in tow? BAH!
Oh well, good for PC gamers.

Maybe the replay component will be included in the DLC this fall for the 360? Well here's hoping anyways...
Jon2309 @ Aug 21st 2008 9:41PM
Thanks for reminding me why I was an idiot to buy it for 360. =D
Zon @ Aug 21st 2008 9:47PM

Marzz @ Aug 21st 2008 9:55PM

Can anyone speculate on the hardware needed to run this at max and get decent framerates? 1680x1050 reso.
Haggard @ Aug 21st 2008 10:32PM
Judging by previous ports from the 360, you'll be able to max out settings at that resolution with an 8800GT.
On about medium settings, my x1950Pro 512MB has been coping very well with multiplatform releases, and it's a pretty old card. A great card when it came out, but old.
Turkish Superman @ Aug 21st 2008 10:39PM
You hear that? It's the sound of a game running at more than 25 frames per second.
SoulBlade @ Aug 21st 2008 10:47PM
God I love having a good PC. I can't wait for this.

FUCK YEAH

I wonder if they fixed that bug where 99.9% of the missions are 'Drive there, kill that gang' without any of the fun quirky missions in the middle to mix things up like in San Andreas.
Not that I want to put you off GTA4, it is still a very good game, I have never had so much fun smashing up a car ever... in a game. Just dont play expecting it to be the be all and end all of games, Rockstar have a lot to make up for in the next GTA.
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Aug 22nd 2008 10:48AM
I hope this will get the DLC the 360 version is getting, since the 360 and PC versions of Fallout 3 will get DLC the PS3 version won't.
Zach S @ Aug 23rd 2008 10:58PM
I've been wanting a replay feature in GTA IV ever since I came off of Skate to play it!!! Damn it, it would've been sweet to have on the 360!!!
