GC 2008: Lode Runner XBLA remake 'coming soon'
Developer Tozai has been noticeably silent with regards to its upcoming take on Brøderbund's early computer platformer Lode Runner, and while our army of robots have once more returned empty handed, the media sleuths at IGN report that a seemingly "largely done" build of the XBLA remake was on hand at the Leipzig's media extravaganza.
The news leaves us wondering just when we'll be able to revisit our platforming roots, though the game's presence on the show floor was reportedly adorned with rather ambiguous signage that simply read "coming soon." We certainly hope so, because with both this and some sort of R-Type title in the works, Tozai has become adept at tugging at nostalgia's heartstrings.

Sorry to derail the major discussion going on here, but The Forced Unleashed demo is out on XBL!!
Well, after playing, remember that feeling you got after seeing the Phantom Menace? It's just like that, but you're playing a game!!!

That's... not that great a feeling.
Haven't played the demo yet but the game had so much promise. :

The demo is decent, but a bit short. I'm still excited for the game, but I'm wondering if it will have any replay value. You start off quite a bit more bad ass than you ever got in Jedi Knight.

OK, I just threw a TIE fighter. That's pretty fucking cool.

Free download for Gold members. Seeing as I am a lowly "silver",um, "member", I am ass out.

You know, I'm embarrased to say that I've never played Lode Runner. I will be getting it when it's on the Marketplace though...

I REALLY want this to hurry up. Lode Runner is an awesome game on it's own, but a remake could have so much potential. R-Type as well? How about a Jumpman collection from the C64? They seem to be getting most of these remakes right these days... don't mess with what worked... I'm down for most all of it!

Hell yes, Jumpman! There was another one, "Impossible Mission". That game scared the shit out of me when I was a lad....

ah, you need to check out the older versions of lode runner if at all possible. it's really, really fun.

Awesome news, love the lode runner. I loved Lode Runner: Legend Returns on my family's old pentium Compaq. Good Times.

This is currently on the developer version of XBLA, and is as fun as you remember it being =p

jee...whiz. Is this what it has come to. Do you have to pay for this. you gonna fill your expensive 360 hard drive up with kinda stuff?
Bloo @ Aug 21st 2008 11:52AM
Shouldn't you be commenting on the 'waste of life' blog?

WTF?? I downloaded Lode Runner for the Wii like 8 months ago.... played it quite a bit too.
ZeroCorpse @ Aug 21st 2008 11:37AM
Screw Lode Runner. Why doesn't anybody ever re-release the vastly superior JUMPMAN and JUMPMAN JR. games?
Lode Runner was dull compared to Jumpman.

I love Moon Patrol as well as Jumpman. I buy Lode Runner too.
onlysublime @ Aug 21st 2008 5:12PM
I loved Lode Runner on my Atari 1200XL! As long as Lode Runner keeps the level designer, that game will rock. My cousins and I designed so many cool levels and that kept the replay going forever.

With any luck the remake will take better advantage of the 360's CPU than the original!
