GC 2008: Ubisoft announces ANNO 1404
Ubisoft took the opportunity afforded by the Leipzig Games Convention to announce ANNO 1404, the publisher's first ANNO offering after acquiring the popular PC "building-strategy" property and its German publisher in 2007. In ANNO 1404 – scheduled for release worldwide in March 2009 anno domini – "players will get to know the culture and technology of the ancient Orient while learning the tricks of local trade, diplomacy and economy in order to build their own metropolis." We'll see if Ubisoft's international marketing muscle can help the ANNO titles find an audience outside of ol' Europe.

Nice, these games are always so relaxing
Mr.ESC @ Aug 21st 2008 2:53PM
Yeah it has been a while since I played one of those games. They are quite amusing and relaxing as you said.
To be honest I always cheated in Free play,it was awesome to see my Army step on other civilizations. That's the reason I liked Empire Earth,my Nuclear strikes against your Arrows lolololol.

Army? 1602 was all about settlements and trading.
Loved that game, but it's sequels were just so-so. I'll be interested in how this one turns out.

Hello There Age of Empires.
RanWitScissorz @ Aug 21st 2008 2:58PM
Why is their a sail between the bow and the boom? o_O
DigTheDoug @ Aug 21st 2008 3:02PM
The same reason there's an "i" in "there"?
RanWitScissorz @ Aug 21st 2008 3:08PM
I guess... but a grammar error is an easy mistake, adding a sail there is... strange.
DigTheDoug @ Aug 21st 2008 4:24PM
Well, I'm no nautical expert, but my guess is that it serves to increase the turning radius of the ship. They can turn that sail a certain direction into the wind and that will pull the front of the ship along that direction, along with the rudder in the back, maybe?
BananaBoat @ Aug 21st 2008 8:26PM
I was more miffed by the improper use of anno domini. Then again, almost noone puts the AD before the year anymore.
Grammar is teh ded.
Jake11 @ Aug 21st 2008 3:05PM
I liked 1602, i havent played yese games in years though
Titanium_Orchid @ Aug 21st 2008 3:14PM
Never played the first one but if its anything like an ancient version of Sim City, then I'm all for it.
I could do without the announcer though.
Roto13 @ Aug 21st 2008 3:34PM
Pretty
BigD145 @ Aug 21st 2008 3:59PM
I wish they'd go back to the old 1503 standard of complexity.
Sagan @ Aug 21st 2008 9:49PM
I think you got them mixed up. 1503 was the most complex. My favorite still is the original. I liked the other two, too, but somehow they couldn't keep my attention after one or two rounds.
Robotochan @ Aug 21st 2008 4:41PM
I love the Anno series, loved all of them so far, the DS game was fun. Hopefully with a competent studio making the game it'll turn out really awesome!
Batzarro @ Aug 21st 2008 6:27PM
Can't get enought ANNO, huh?
Batzarro @ Aug 21st 2008 6:26PM
¿Ah, si?
