GC 2008: Heavy Rain will have demo; DLC teased
Sure, we've been gushing about Heavy Rain lately, but Quantic Dreams President David Cage has assured Eurogamer that we will be able to experience it all first-hand with a demo. "Yes, of course, there will be a demo," he said, adding that it will likely not contain any elements of the main storyline. "We've spent a lot of time working on the story this time ... And I think it's a very unusual story for a videogame, so I think people will be quite surprised." Cage also noted that what we've seen so far is a separate episode and not related to the main storyline.
Cage also hinted that Heavy Rain DLC could be trickling out in the near future. "This is something it's really too early to talk about, but it's definitely a possibility," he said, adding, "You can tell any story with this interface, because it's entirely contextual." The clouds will burst with Heavy Rain (seriously, we're going to work on our pun addiction) in 2009.

I'm sure they've spent a great amount of time working on a very different and interesting story.
Who forgot about the gameplay?
Waqman @ Aug 21st 2008 12:43PM
Its an adventure style game. Those ones that Lucasarts specialized in a long time ago. So yes, there is gameplay. Just not the type you are looking for. You're probably the ignorant type that HAS to shoot something in order for it to be good.
Koehler83 @ Aug 21st 2008 12:56PM
That is a very ironic statement.
So what you're telling me is that if I don't like what amounts to a glorified version of "Simon", I must be ignorant.
Hi. Larious.
Noshino @ Aug 21st 2008 1:12PM
that's the thing, based on what people from the media are saying, it is far from "Simon", unlike IP.
Really, inform yourself before making moronic statements, here are is a great article, go read it.

I'm playing through Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy to you Americans) at the moment on PC.
I have to say that after half an hour of controlling my character's claustrophobia whilst looking for a data disk, the design team made some awful, awful decisions.
Noshino @ Aug 21st 2008 12:02PM
that pun is a 3.0 on the Kietzmann scale
Obie @ Aug 21st 2008 12:04PM
Noshino, you know I actually know the guy that made the "Get to the choppa" pic you use as an icon?
Seeing it makes me laugh hehe.
Noshino @ Aug 21st 2008 1:11PM
oh cool, I got this avatar from a friend, hence why I keep it :]
but yah, who was it that made it? o_o
Obie @ Aug 21st 2008 1:59PM
If you have the original pic, you can see his signature in the top right corner "Fireborn",
we used to post at the IGN forums. He also directed
one of the funniest H2 machinimas back in the day:

So, its Indigo Prophecy 2:Electric Boogaloo?
OMGOMG @ Aug 21st 2008 12:22PM
Watch out for that granny.
Roto13 @ Aug 21st 2008 12:22PM
Is this going to be like every other piece of hyper-realistic animation I've seen? Because they never, ever get the mouths right and it looks ridiculous to see their lips flapping around their teeth.
Red Leader @ Aug 21st 2008 9:57PM
They get it right sometimes, and I have faith in this one too.
Marty @ Aug 21st 2008 12:28PM
Alright, we see the woman looks realistic up close. If you look at the other shots of this game, with the outdoors scene, it looks like just another game.
Zoesch @ Aug 21st 2008 1:12PM
Marty, what did I tell you last time? Remove the god damned welding goggles FFS.
theturtle363 @ Aug 21st 2008 1:19PM
I agree, the environments remind me of God of War 2, kinda scratchy edges, with a distant unfocused lens look
Nigeria @ Aug 21st 2008 12:31PM
I remember the QTE in Fahrenheit during their Dragonball-like sequences. It was not fun.
Though, I'll probably try and borrow a Playstation to play this game. Hopefully the story won't fall to pieces halfway through.
Alex @ Aug 21st 2008 1:43PM
I loved Fahrenheit. Everything was fantastic but the graphics could have been better even though it was only on Xbox and PS2. Just look at NG 1.
Anyway, when this was first announced I almost wet the bed, then the 360 version got cancelled, and there's no way I'm spending £400 for one game. The PS3 will also be borrowed for me.
colinbell @ Aug 21st 2008 12:35PM
Its raining puns today.
I wonder whether this game will run in 1080p?
Draco Basileus @ Aug 21st 2008 12:35PM
Looks like an episode of Law and Order: SVU. Mariska Hargitay called, she wants her face back.
Tez (PSN: Tezasaurus) @ Aug 21st 2008 12:42PM
Are you kidding? Mariska is way hotter, and this chick isn't scowling enough.
Waqman @ Aug 21st 2008 12:45PM
Hahaha, nah Mariska is actually alot hotter than this.
But still I'm excited for this game. Hopefully it has a "Silence of the Lambs" vibe to it as you're searching for this serial killer. That would be cool, and its about time we get a good adventure game. I miss the old days with Lucasarts.
Tez (PSN: Tezasaurus) @ Aug 21st 2008 12:40PM
I think the Heavy Rain puns need to stop. It already reached the high point with the Bowfinger reference.

Anthony Perez @ Aug 21st 2008 1:39PM
I'm really looking forward to Heavy Rain, but with the lack of information since that first teaser trailer in 2005, I had feared it went the way of Alan Wake.
I know some people have been dissing, well really just this guy from what I've seen: http://kezins.com/2008/08/heavy-rain-gameplay-disappoints/2818
And I don't get it. Sure there is extensive use of QTE, but if you played Indigo Prophecy - the last project by developer Quantic Dream - you would know that Indigo Prophecy used extensive QTE. It's an adventure game for all intents and purposes, and the purpose is to tell you a story in an interactive way.
I'm can't wait to get my hands on it myself to see if it lives up to my personal hopes for it.
required @ Aug 21st 2008 2:01PM
The link you posted is of someone that only saw footage of gameplay and made presumptions based on what they saw.
If you want to know what folks are saying that have actually played the game look elsewhere as this game is not "quicktime events" as you and the person you linked to seem to believe.
Anthony Perez @ Aug 21st 2008 3:11PM
I don't believe it's only QTE, but even if it were heavy on QTE, it still wouldn't change the fact that it was big component to a lot of the action scenes in Indigo Prophecy, which is the game Quantic Dream last developed so it should be expected.
Altairio @ Aug 21st 2008 3:06PM
Needs more chocolate.
Franklin @ Aug 21st 2008 3:26PM
Nice, I wasn't really expecting a demo for Heavy Rain. I'm not that interested in the possible DLC news, but demoing a seemingly slow-placed adventure game like this doesn't even seem like it will do it justice. If it's as good as Shenmue I'll be happy.
If you guys don't have a PS3, you should take a look at this Stacker 2 contest going on where you can win one (or a 360, for that matter). There are less than 180 entrants as of now too, so you have to like your chances. Check out the details here: http://www.brickfish.com/Entertainment/Stacker2?tab=overview
You can also win a year's supply of 6 Hour Power energy shots, a copy of Rise of the Argonauts, and more. Let me know if you enter and I'll be happy to vote for your design. Shoot me an e-mail if you have any questions, too. Good luck.

Considering the level they've shown off here is completely non-contextual to the game but shows off what it is about, why not just release that to the public?
Overgauss @ Aug 21st 2008 7:34PM
"So what you're telling me is that if I don't like what amounts to a glorified version of "Simon", I must be ignorant.
Hi. Larious."
Play Guitar Hero much?
Imagine Simon the memory game, but like with rock, oh wait I don't have to.
