iPhone users: read Joystiq at i.joystiq.com
We've long offered a mobile version of Joystiq at m.joystiq.com, for those of you with a Blackberry, Windows Mobile, or what have you. But looking at the data, the iPhone slash iPod Touch platform represents a commanding 79.5% of all mobile pages served (some stats after the break).
So with that in mind, we're unveiling i.joystiq.com, a specially formatted page that delivers the entire Joystiq experience (including comments this time!) with none of the cruft of a full-sized web page. We know there are still some kinks to be ironed out, so consider this service in beta until, well ... there are no more kinks. In the meantime, let us know what you think in the comments (maybe try leaving a comment from your fancy iPhone, Mr. Millionaire).

Damn... on-screen keyboarddd..,.,,,.
ConnertheCat @ Aug 21st 2008 5:29PM
I've updated my iPhone's bookmark of this site accordingly!
doubleyewdee @ Aug 21st 2008 5:30PM
This is a nice add. Still, it would be better if I could just browse joystiq.com in mobile Safari. Sadly doing so crashes Safari within a few minutes of browsing pretty much every time.
Christopher Grant @ Aug 21st 2008 5:32PM
Really? I browse joystiq.com in Safari on my iPhone about a thousand times a day, as do the huge number of people above (see 79.5% number). You should try restoring your phone perhaps ...
Desi_D @ Aug 21st 2008 6:18PM
Been using safari here for while, no crashes.
doubleyewdee @ Aug 21st 2008 6:28PM
Yeah it's been a persistent problem for me since day 1 of the gen1 iPhone. I like to read valleywag, joystiq, and engadget on the bus on my way to work. Especially while listening to music Safari will just go TU at a random point during page load. On 2.0.1 this has actually hard-locked my 3G multiple times, but I haven't seen it again since 2.0.2 so fingers crossed there.
Lots of patches, lots of restarts. Sometimes the problem will go away for a week and then it will come back, and phone restarts etc do not avail me. I really think it's just that Safari wasn't designed to run in the relatively limited RAM provided by the iPhone. :(
But yeah, kudos on the mobile Safari optimized site. :)
deaftly @ Aug 21st 2008 5:33PM
Yeah Ive been spoiled lately and just use my iphone to browse the web instead of the ol pc. Thanks for the update.
Wolfsunfire @ Aug 21st 2008 5:44PM
Love the new format and have added the link as appropreate. Keep up the great work.
Nutchos @ Aug 21st 2008 5:44PM
Nice! Although I just use a newsreader, good to see all these websites optimizing for the iphone (engadget also did something like this).
Alex @ Aug 21st 2008 5:48PM
Thanks Joystiq, now I can read better about XBLA on my Art History Class :)
Sean @ Aug 21st 2008 5:51PM
I just use Google Reader on my phone.
However, using i.joystiq.com is a good way to view the site on the desktop without 90% of the pageweight being stupid Weblogs Inc bullshit.
rTwelve [xbl:chilblane] @ Aug 21st 2008 6:16PM
now only if google reader for iphone directly linked to iphone optimized pages instead of the desktop version.
Draco @ Aug 21st 2008 5:58PM
I guess this is only the connection rate for the m.joystiq.com? Why is the Wii so high up there? and the PS3 non-existant? is it because it works for the most part on the main joystiq.com site?
and why wont the new comment system remember me?
KobeBryunt @ Aug 21st 2008 6:10PM
I'm going to guess that reason the ps3 isn't up there is because it's painfully slow
WiNG [Life in a Game] @ Aug 21st 2008 6:07PM
Since when is the Nintendo Wii a mobile device?
Top Cat @ Aug 21st 2008 6:31PM
you're inviting all side-talkin' hell to break loose with comments like that
KobeBryunt @ Aug 21st 2008 6:08PM
Bookmarked. Good tool
RobLink (Alex Kidd incarnate) @ Aug 21st 2008 6:11PM
Looks good, works well. Only thing is my home screen looks odd now, with it's extra tab.
Comments work a LOT better than in safari.
RobLink (Alex Kidd incarnate) @ Aug 21st 2008 6:15PM
FYI, leaving that comment kicked me back to the main page rather than the 'I' page.
syrik zero @ Aug 21st 2008 6:24PM
I work for Apple and honestly don't have an iPhone. I think I'll be getting one in a few months though...
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 21st 2008 6:25PM
I use a lot the Wii Internet Browser... is very fast, loads all the websites correctly and the interface is very good thanks to the IR Pointer.
Is one of the best TV browsers.
According to Nintendo, 50% of Wii's are online... that means 15 million of people that can have acces to the browser.
syrik zero @ Aug 21st 2008 9:09PM
I've used that browser to watch youtube videos. There were cartoons that were there for a bit and I watched the series through that. It was nifty watching them on my big screen. Other than that though I prefer to just use my portable computer
Matt @ Aug 21st 2008 6:26PM
It looks like you made the new "i" pages available across your whole family, thanks! (i.engadget.com, i.engadgetmobile.com etc.)
John Z @ Aug 21st 2008 6:32PM
Do you like my comment? It's made of MONEY!
Also, I would really like to point out that I don't much care for sites "optimized for iPhone". They often wind up being kinda gimpy compared to the real deal. This one is OK, IMO, but I usually read through GReader anyway.
Saria the Cat @ Aug 21st 2008 6:32PM
Hooray, now my friends with their fancy pants iPhones will be able to read my inane commenting! :)
i just pooped @ Aug 21st 2008 6:40PM
So i check Joystiq on my Blackberry at night on a semi regular basis. And I'm assuming I'm not the only on that does. How's come there's no Blackberry webviews on that fancy pie chart?
subcon @ Aug 21st 2008 6:41PM
neato!
I haven't read all the comments so sorry if this has been said or if the functionality exists, but...
Suggestion:
A link below the article to the the "add your comments" section would be much appreciated.

You and your buddies at Engadget want to fix your m.joystiq.com and m.engadget.com sites before worrying about the Jesus Phone cf. clicking any link from the mobile Home Pages goes to a page with a "www." address rather than an "m." address.
Manually changing "www." to "m." gets the correct page.
Thought it was just on my N73 and E71 this happened, but seems to be the norm. This can't be by design, surely?

You know, after a dozen views a day at least, I thought my Blackjack would at least register a 0.1% on its own little self. Oh well.
jcd @ Aug 21st 2008 6:51PM
Yah, me too. I've been using a palm tx for a long time now, and not even a scratch on those stats.
I like the titles and layout better in m.joystiq, but i.joystiq has comments. decisions decisions
Matt @ Aug 21st 2008 7:20PM
I also question how IE mobile and Opera Mobile didn't register in the stats.
Ross Miller @ Aug 21st 2008 7:02PM
To be honest, I like i.joystiq.com a lot better than m.joystiq. I'm not using an iphone, but I'm switching my bookmarks anyways. comments ahoy!
Wiinterfang @ Aug 21st 2008 7:04PM
*Fap Fap Fap*
Gman @ Aug 21st 2008 7:38PM
I wish I could be reading Joystiq on an iphone. Instead I have to use my good-old PC.
Arturo @ Aug 21st 2008 7:45PM
I just got an LD Dare, but I never browse on it since I'm usually near a pc. Or sometimes I'll use the ps3 browser and if I'm out it's usually not too long, but I have considered getting an Ipod Touch at some point.
juju187 @ Aug 21st 2008 7:58PM
movin on up, movin on up...
GabsterVIII @ Aug 21st 2008 9:08PM
I still can't comment from my iPhone!
Intrepyd @ Aug 21st 2008 9:20PM
Looking good. I have a new icon on my home screen now.
Mark @ Aug 21st 2008 9:30PM
Looks good! I've even remembered to bookmark it for future use.
Deprincer @ Aug 21st 2008 9:38PM
Oh man, this is a megaton. Thanks joystiq!
Arcaynn @ Aug 21st 2008 10:20PM
This groundbreaking new mobile site design could obviously only work on the iPhone.
But wait, it works better than the old mobile page on my Tilt. How odd; It's like it was a regular new mobile page design, but needlessly spun to target the iPhone in order to validate iPhone users!
Sufs @ Aug 21st 2008 10:31PM
Wat up joystiq. Great update!!!
Sufs @ Aug 21st 2008 10:40PM
Wat up Joystiq. Great addition makes life a lot easier!!!
Nate Kowal @ Aug 21st 2008 10:48PM
I like it but most for the comments. I use google reader on my phone but some suggestions are that it loads slowly and it moves around on the screen and doesn't seem properly formatted. Cheers guys. Good job for the most part.
Nate.
Ramifications @ Aug 22nd 2008 2:21AM
hmmm.... I have an LG Dare...and when I access http://m.joystiq.com it just gives me a full size page with all posts about mobile stuff. It's definitely NOT a mobile optimized site, it's just about mobile topics.
Are you sure that's it?
I'm using i.joystiq.com now cause that works alot better.
Danny @ Aug 22nd 2008 6:17AM
nicely done, joystiq! One minor compliant though - the springboard icon is fugly (orange on black). Could the black be changed to a calming blue?
Danny Champlin @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:16AM
I personally like reading it at http://www.google.com/reader/i/ when on my iPhone. Much better interface...
Wasserman @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:54AM
I have a LG Voyager and it works really well for it. Even better then m.joystiq. Maybe you should note that. YAY!
