Rock the Vote to canvas Xbox Live
Meet 1ickTh3P0l3. He can vote. But why tell him that? When Rock the Vote comes to Xbox Live on Monday (the start of the Democratic National Convention), it won't find the disempowered young citizens eager to be mobilized it's expecting. In fact, the Xbox Live community is a conglomerate of well-organized sub-divisions -- or "clans" -- which communicate through a modified, verbalization of "133t speak" with a large admixture of derisive language; including racial, ethnic, gender, sex, and religious slurs. These nihilistic hatemongers shoot first, typically with rocket launchers, and top it off with a teabag over your dead body. Oh wait, these are just the Xbox Live users under 18. Imagine how the ones of legal voting age spend their nights and weekends ... And you want them rocking what now?

I know LOL Democrats have two years in congress and everything goes to hell. Gas Prices double, Economy Slows Down. and Pelosi wants you to suffer cause shes trying to save the planet
Haggard @ Aug 21st 2008 3:20PM
Yeah, because a world slowdown of the economy is entirely the fault of the politicians in your congress.
Under a republican administration, oil supplies are infinite! Yee-haw!
Jonafun @ Aug 21st 2008 3:29PM
@ please:
You're serious? You didn't perhaps notice a steady decline over - I don't know - SEVEN AND A HALF YEARS?
E.J. @ Aug 21st 2008 6:15PM
It's not about democrats or republicans. The economy goes in cycles. Granted, Wall Street/Fed delayed the inevitable, but that caused a more gradual downturn in the market rather than a sharp one.
No matter who wins the next presidency, they'll get praised for the economic rise because they're in the right place at the right time.
Examples:
Carter - down (prime at 21.5%)
Reagan - Up (besides the '87 crash, in his term, the Dow went from 970s to 2700s, Globalization of economy)
HW Bush - sorta down (recession in '90, inherited Reagan debt, raised taxes with Dem-controlled congress)
Clinton - Up (Dow reached 10000)
WBush - down (9/11, Dot-com bust, Housing bubble rise and burst)
Regarding Rock the Vote: I hate the fact that they claim to be non-partisan. Their mission statement says they're "controlled by nobody’s agenda but our own". Yeah, since their political director is the youth director for Barack Obama, we all know what their agenda is.
Lionbacker @ Aug 21st 2008 12:56PM
Ugh... Kids on xbox live will someday be allowed to vote?
I weep for the future.
Marty @ Aug 21st 2008 1:25PM
Considering the huge mess we're in (in the US) right now, I can't possibly imagine how it could get much worse.
samfish @ Aug 21st 2008 1:28PM
I learned to stop saying that I can't imagine how it could get much worse, because everytime you do...it gets worse.
deaftly @ Aug 21st 2008 2:20PM
Imagine if it was just the people on PSN voting, a new record would be set for an all time low number of votes.

Leobebes (BDF: Braid Defence Force) @ Aug 21st 2008 1:29PM
OMG THE LIBRUUUUUULS!!!!
The last 8 years have been the best 8 years in our country's history right?
How anyone can continue to trust the Republican party just boggles the mind.
Microswirl (MKWii:1676- 4270-3674) @ Aug 21st 2008 1:30PM
Yes, tmacairjordan87, yes there are. I use to play Gears of War with some dude in Detroit who eventually turned into a real asshole who kicked people if they were better than him and bitched and accused everyone of cheating. He also happened to be a staunch Bush supporter, but I don't think it was a coincidence.
ice~ @ Aug 21st 2008 1:53PM
Why can't you trust republicans? eh? Democrats are just soooo perfect and pure that they must be trusted??? Last I checked democrats were human too, and they have a worse track record than republicans, lets take john edwards for example, or the floridian senator who doesn't even live in his own district.
I didn't know that Joystiq was just so full of far left manic liberals.... No need to mock those who support Bush, it's wrong to mock someone for what he or she believes, grow up.
FOXHOUND @ Aug 21st 2008 1:57PM
I'm Republican. Not sure why anymore, since most of my values have leaned toward Democrat-style ideals.
I guess I believe in the Republician party in the some of the literal and historically initial ideals, not "Darth Cheney" modern sense. :\
Raikage (GOLDEN Gun Of The Patriots) @ Aug 21st 2008 2:06PM
Both Republicans and Democrats are epic failures.
How on earth did Clinton last that long?

Manic? ROFL
Maybe they are just people who are tired of the shit-storm we've been living through for the last 8 years? I know I am.
samfish @ Aug 21st 2008 2:11PM
If Republicans were more like Teddy Roosevelt, I'd probably call myself a Republican, too.
McCain calls himself a TR Republican, but he literally has NOTHING in common with him. The entire Republican party shifted to the hard right when Reagan was elected, and they've slowly been undoing what TR and FDR did ever since.
Duke @ Aug 21st 2008 2:12PM
I don’t really think it’s appropriate to bash people just for being republican or democrat, but I guess that’s not the general consensus. We can’t all follow one ideology blindly just because others say so, hence a multi-party system existing.
Duke @ Aug 21st 2008 2:16PM
"they've slowly been undoing what TR and FDR did ever since."
I just have to say that Teddy was the man, and I would love to see him alive and in office again. That being said, he and FDR were not nearly the same. I say that believing, as a republican, that FDR was probably the best president this country has had.

Isn't it funny to hear about this "liberal bias" from the right wing political pundits. The Obama bashing is in full effect on Faux News, talk radio and print.

Jerome Corsi, a veteran of the 2004 Swiftboating campaign that helped sink the candidacy of the Democratic Party's John Kerry, had his book "The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality" debut at No. 1 on the New York Times hardcover nonfiction best-seller list.
"The Case Against Barack Obama: The Unlikely Rise and Unexamined Agenda of the Media's Favorite Candidate" by David Freddoso is currently ranked at number five. And another Obama-bashing tome, expected sometime next month, is tentatively titled "Obama Unmasked," and is written by Floyd Brown.
"Hype: The Obama Effect" -- a full-length documentary that attacks everything about the Democratic Party's presidential nominee -- will be premiering at the Regal Pavilions 15 in the host city. The free showing is being sponsored by Citizens United and Chairman Dick Wadhams of the Colorado Republican Committee.
During the 2004 presidential campaign, one of the earliest attacks against the Democratic Party's presidential candidate Senator John Kerry -- predating by several months the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth mega-attack on the candidate's military record -- was spearheaded by Floyd Brown's group, Citizens United, a long-time conservative enterprise.
The goal of the Citizens United advertisement was to make Kerry look like an elitist; a premise that Bush advisor Karl Rove and the campaign of the Republican Party's presidential candidate, Senator John McCain, has revived again this year. These days, in addition to the Obama-is-an-elitist message, he is also being defined by McCain as an empty suit -- a "celebrity" who is out of touch with regular folks.
In June of this year, Rove -- now a roving right-wing commentator with the Fox News Channel, the Wall Street Journal and other mainstream media platforms -- pulled the snob card from the deck. Speaking at a country club, Rove likened Obama, to "the guy at the country club with the beautiful date, holding a martini and a cigarette that stands against the wall and makes snide comments about everyone who passes by."
Bossie, who co-produced "Hype: The Obama Effect", which was directed and written by Alan Peterson -- who also directed "Fahrenhype 9/11," a response to Michael Moore's award-winning documentary "Fahrenheit 911" --
"Bossie is a political hatchet man whose career is based on smears and attacking Democrats," John Stauber, the executive director of the Centre for Media and Democracy, told IPS.
"Going back to the days when he was unremitting in his attacks against Bill and Hillary Clinton, Bossie's forte has never been accuracy," Reynolds said. "It has been bloodletting

"That being said, he and FDR were not nearly the same. I say that believing, as a republican, that FDR was probably the best president this country has had."
I didn't mean to imply that they were the same. Just that they both set into motion policies that helped the average American citizen lead a better life, either through protecting land and natural resources for people to enjoy to...well, the New Deal.
They were both very populist in many respects.
As a result, they also both took on the robber barons of their time, which I REALLY wish we had a President doing that now.
Immortal Technique PSN: johnnynumber5 @ Aug 21st 2008 2:44PM
There was one real republican who was in this race that I would have voted for in a second ... Ron Paul ... The problem is that all republicans have gone so far to the right and in doing so have lost the traditional conservative ways ... who is for war now over diplomacy? who is for big government spending now? The roles of the parties have flipped flopped in many many many ways.
Fun Fact:
When you here this talk about how we have a 10 trillion dollar debt and what not you should know it is a lie. That is simply the interest we owe on our debt which in reality is approaching 70 trillion ...
People need to turn off the TV and understand out country is on the verge of collapse and bankruptcy.
Mr Khan @ Aug 21st 2008 2:58PM
There's a big disconnect between TR and George W, and that's mostly because of Harry Truman. Truman supported Civil Rights, which caused Strom Thurmond and the Racist camp, which was tied to the States Rights and Libertarian camps (which isn't to imply that they are all racist, but that they simple had similar goals of weaker Federal Government), to abandon the Democratic party. They tried making it on their own for a while as the Dixiecrats, but eventually were welcomed to the Republicans by the likes of Richard Nixon and Spiro Agnew

Thank You. It actually took a while to get the parts out that emphasized my points. Glad you could benefit from it. that is unless you are being witty.

The problem with Republicans is that they are getting as bad with freedom and responsibility as the Democrats.
Both parties want to expand the government and invade your personal life.
Vote libertarian. It isn't until they both completely crash and burn that the 2 parties will stop worrying about their self serving interests and listen to the people.
Ordeith @ Aug 21st 2008 1:19PM

If your knowledge of the candidates comes from Extra or People Magazine....
PLEASE DON'T VOTE!
