G4 claims to have gotten "the hot word" on a new Guitar Hero World Tour peripheral from Neversoft's Brian Bright who "wouldn't go into detail about what it will be," though he apparently said the new peripheral was "specifically for the game's Studio mode."
We've reached out to Activision for some kind of comment or confirmation; however, until then, speculation seems to be the name of the game. G4 is guessing keyboard, which is all well and good. And who knows, it may well be a keyboard. We're not oracles here. But as long as we're just guessing, why not guess a little bigger, y'know? That's why we're happy to announce Joystiq's official guess for the rumored new Guitar Hero World Tour peripherpal: keytar.

The only thing I think it could be is a mixing tool. Why would another instrument come out that is only for the studio area? Maybe a tool to export songs that you create too?

This is just getting bloody ridiculous. I've got a better idea! Get a cheap MIDI-compatible keyboard (look around and you can get one for 50-60 bucks). Download a copy of Reason 4.0 (the legit copy is 400 bucks...so yeah) plug your keyboard into your comp via USB. And voila, instantly a million times better than this GH World Tour song creator shit.

too bad reason 4.0 is 400 bucks. and no, i'm not going to illegally download it.
i guess i need to take some basic piano lessons and music theory too while i'm at it.
i dunno, gh world tour seems to be the easy way to go. it'll be instantly a million times better at a party.

I'm not saying "Hey quit rock band and buy a guitar loser", I'm saying that rock band encourages learning how to play an instrument. I don't play an instrument currently, I once did drumming for like a month (LOOONG TIME AGO), but that never amounted to anything. I play rock band daily and have been thinking of just buying a cheap walmart guitar for like 50 bucks and see if it's fun at all.

tiptup: Playing a guitar is awesome. I bought mine because of Guitar Hero 1, and grabbed a bass later. (I also still play GH and Rock Band, and they're both fun. Fanboy heads asplode, etc.) But don't get the Wal-Mart guitar or you'll feel really bad later.
There are great starter electrics that are cheaper than a full buy of Rock Band that'll last longer, do a better job keeping their tune and are easier to upgrade later when you get more serious. People might make fun of your Squier or Epiphone or whatever, but anything's better than FirstAct.
Shop around online, or find a good local music store with decent service - you'll need it the first time you break a string or tuner. You could try buying used, but find someone who knows guitars and have them come along – same idea as bringing a mechanic with you when you buy a used car.
The next step is to find a tutor. Doesn't have to be a pro, just find someone to meet with regularly and go over basics. It's a lot tougher to teach yourself the basics from videos and books; once you've got them, though, you can progress pretty well solo.
I know I sound like a salesman, but learning to play any instrument is one of the greatest things you can do for yourself. But you have to treat your gear as an investment, even if you never plan to perform. Buy cheap crap and you'll lose interest.

Oy vey... Nerdy explanation forthcoming.
The original poster was implying that it was highly unlikely that G4 would have accurate news, and was speculating on what planet G4 might be considered accurate. My mind leapt to the phrase "Bizarro World," and subsequently, the actual planet Bizarro was from in the old Superman comics: Htrae. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Htrae
So, yes, fairly nerdy.
And also, now, fairly pedantic. Sorry for that.

this is an easy one,
only works with the studio version of the game.
it has to be a mixing board, faders ect
its the only thing that would make sense to add only into that portion of the game.
Guitar hero: Word tour!
be the band, be the producer

Well, a good keyboard/synthesiser could easily make up for bass.

I bought a keytar recently on craigslist recently for about 430 bucks. I can't even play it, it's just in my room. Totally worth it.

I'm fine with Rock Band 2.

If they are going to get that serious with their mixing, why not just go the extra step and actually start mixing music. I love playing music games, because they are really fun (Rock Band is the only current-gen retail game in my top 100!). But when it comes to getting creative, and going the extra step to make it more realistic... Isn't that why we have Garage Band, Cubase, Logic Pro, FruityLoops, Pro Tools, and Ableton Live? Just seems you can get more bang for your buck if you go into actual music sequencing, than getting seriously involved with Guitar Hero's music production aspect.
