Who put 'Wii Music' in my Guitar Hero?

Hoping to somehow diminish our aversion to the sight of Miis playing musical instruments, Vicarious Visions is working the user-created, er ... "avatars" into the Wii version of Guitar Hero World Tour in a so-called unique way. In an interview with IGN, the developer explained how the recently revealed Mii mode, known as "Mii Freestyle," will work.
Using the guitar or drumkit peripherals (or, if you'recrazy so inclined, the Wiimote and Nunchuck for "air drumming") the mode lets you and a friend jam in a variety of music genres, laying down single notes, chords, and beats as you wish. According to Vicarious Visions, it'll all sound good because, well, it's programmed to clean up what you do. Take that, years of practice!

Wiitard mode is the new co-op, apparently.
Killjebus @ Aug 21st 2008 8:40PM
"Wiitard mode"
Nice, that one will stick for sure.
Wiitards unite!!! Demand that every last little itty bit of skill be stricken from the house of the Plumber.
Banging on pots and pans requires MORE skill than Wiitard music.
Roto13 @ Aug 22nd 2008 12:22AM
Yeah, because I was totally looking forward to the intense challenge in freestyle mode.
Mr Khan @ Aug 21st 2008 8:11PM
It certainly removes the last reason to buy Wii Music for some reason or other
Chase @ Aug 21st 2008 8:17PM
Good. I want that game to tank. I loved ya Nintendo, but enough is enough.
Sora @ Aug 21st 2008 8:19PM
I think the UI in this mode is STILL too complex *FOR THE AUDIENCE THAT WII MUSIC IS AIMED AT* (The caps is so I don't get trolled by some n00b who can't read normal words.)
So, Wii Music will definitely still move units, even if Activision heavily markets this mode.
Hyams @ Aug 21st 2008 8:25PM
Too complex for toddlers?
Sora @ Aug 21st 2008 9:35PM
The Guitar Hero UI is.
KeenCommander @ Aug 21st 2008 8:17PM
OK, so this is dumb...but if the main game is still intact, what does it matter? Other than Joystiq being afraid that (the horrorz) it might sell a few more Wii units, this isn't hurting any of the "hardcore" gamers who will pick this up for another console, or just the Wii players who will never use this feature.
Hyams @ Aug 21st 2008 8:28PM
Where in the article are Joystiq asking for this feature to be removed?
KeenCommander @ Aug 21st 2008 9:43PM
They're making a mockery of it, duh?
Come up with something better next time, please...
Roto13 @ Aug 22nd 2008 12:23AM
Check Kotaku. It's like a million times worse. Drooling idiot commenters.
Tykin @ Aug 21st 2008 8:26PM
Did anyone else think the picture was a sub-par photoshop when they first saw it?
AoE @ Aug 21st 2008 9:09PM
nope, all I saw was par for the course Wii graphics...
Sam @ Aug 21st 2008 8:31PM
Whats this?
Guitar Hero 4 stealing ideas from other games?
Never.
VaultICEE @ Aug 21st 2008 11:52PM
Hey, but in the sense of Wii Music, they probably aren't doing it worse this time!
deaftly @ Aug 21st 2008 8:39PM
Needs Moar Douchebag Drumming.
Mr.ESC @ Aug 21st 2008 8:59PM
I don't think that thing was a douchebag but it sure was weird.I wonder if it was a Nintendo's experiment that went wrong.
Garold @ Aug 21st 2008 8:50PM
I actually think it sounds like fun.
Mr.ESC @ Aug 21st 2008 9:01PM
Yeah suck on that EA,LOL.
x Shadow @ Aug 21st 2008 9:23PM
wow.....
it actually came true?
hahahahaha.... i was kidding when i said, you could use the wii-mote and nun chunk in Guitar Hero: WT..
yeap, karma is a b**tch

•xbox360 & ps3 has the same modes and nothing that sets them apart= gamers love
•wii has the same modes plus a new mode in addition to the standard modes= gamers hate?
ohh yeah silly me, i forgot to hate the wii just because it exist :/
Mr.ESC @ Aug 21st 2008 9:45PM
There is DLC in the Wii version and Online modes? When that happened!!
I don't hate the Wii or GH4 is just that RB2 is better.
Highlar @ Aug 21st 2008 10:23PM
Actually, Mr.ESC, its been known for a couple of months or so now that the Wii version of the game DOES have DLC and online modes. According to VV, it has all the same regular content that the other versions do...only now it has an EXTRA mode on top of the others that you can choose to play or not. VV has apparently figured out how to dowload to and play game content from the SD card slot. So the way it appears to me, is that they KNOW which version of GHIII sold the best and are out to replicate those salse with GH:WT.
Roto13 @ Aug 22nd 2008 12:25AM
I don't think the instruments will be cross-compatible, though. That's kind of a dealbreaker for me, since I'm not buying two complete toy bands ever.
Highlar @ Aug 22nd 2008 1:09AM
That's true. But then again, I didn't buy the crippled version of RB for the Wii, and its the only system I currently own. I DID get GHIII and I think its great. So, for the "full on band simulation" its going to come down to GH:WT (which VV is saying is a full and complete version, with bonus features) and RB2 (which I know next to nothing about so far). So when I compare what I know of one, with what I know of the other, I have to lean to GH:WT.
However, they ARE saying that the PS3/360 versions ARE compatible with RB instruments, so you could just grab the stand alone disc version of GH:WT if you already have RB, it sounds like.
Roto13 @ Aug 22nd 2008 4:45PM
Yeah, exactly. :P The fact that I'll be able to buy Guitar Hero IV or Rock Band 2 and then use the instruments with like four different games is very appealing to me. It's like saving $140 or something on each game. xP
Jack @ Aug 22nd 2008 10:12AM
This certainly makes it a reason to buy the wii version over any other.

I fucking hate Miis, and "avatars" aren't much better...
James @ Aug 22nd 2008 1:52PM
Mii's are great wish they were used in more games, just seeing a cartoon version of your self in the games are great.
