Multiple discs isn't bad as long as you only have to use each dic once per playthrough (as long as it doesn't get ridiculous like 6+ discs)... it'll still be a hell of a lot quicker than installing each "act" of the game.

One question... where did you get the 20-25 hours of playtime from? Does that include any side quests and "discoveries," or just a straight playthrough?

That's just the story mode. With extra quests, it's about 10-15 hours longer.

I'm nervous about this game. They've offered next to NO details, and it's coming very soon. A 20 hour RPG isn't the best i've ever heard, but i'm still trying to remain positive. It just doesn't look that great right now....

(and yes, this is horrible news. I don't want to get up, that's such a hassle. Thne i have to opne a case, bend down, take out one disc, put in another one, and put the other disc back. Ughh....)

Most of that crap is exaggerated in the first place and many cross platform games are fine, but they are somehow never discussed by the fanboys. It's also worth noting that the 360 has been the lead platform in pretty much every case were the port had issues. FFXIII has the PS3 as its lead platform.

Considering HOW SH|TTY multiplatform games are on PS3 - no AA , lower resolutions, screen tearing, cut out geometry, blured screen, worse textures and most punishing - serious framerate problems (RSX suXXs!) its no brainer...

Yeah, that kayrappy Cell/RSX. I mean just look how terrible MGS4, LBP, KZ2, Heavy Rain, MotorstormPR, GT5P are.

And multiplatform titles like Burnout, Bioshock are Wiitastic.

Could the kayrappy ports have a LITTLE something to do with ignorant and/or LAZY developers and NOT the PS3?

Naw

Say hi, say hi to the little monkey. Now, I want you to PET the little monkey...oh yeah...he likes it.

Oh, and Infamous and GOW3 say hi too.

the only difference is the PS2 didn't have any other option for storage; the 360 did. even if Microsoft didn't wanna support Blu-ray they had HD-DVD. yeah i know, adding either would've driven up both production costs and the price of the 360, which would've nixed 360's initial price advantage over the PS3 and probably stymied sales. but the trade off for that lowered production costs was inferior storage, which is coming back to bite them. doesn't matter with IU, as it's exclusive, but things will only get worse if and when more developers start optimizing for Blu-ray.

I would rather have a 299 360 that uses dvds, than a 599 360 that uses hd-dvds.

So far this generation, we have started (a bit) to see that DVDs are starting to become small, but there haven't been too many multi-disc games. Next generation, it will probably use blu-rays (or another large format) and be fine. This generation, I'm glad that the 360 didn't have to raise it's price to a ridiculous amount because of expensive new technology.

Lost Odyssey was on four disks, and it wasn't really a problem. (except for people who had problems with their Xbox360s reading disk 4)

yes! i actually thought i was alone in this, but disc 4 would often not read for me and froze up a few times. Was this like a common problem? No, it wasn't a big issue, but it was kind of annoying. All things being equal, I'd def go with the PS3 version of FF.

pkpk523,
it was a constant complaint on Gamefaqs forums. Always Disk 4. Usually completely unreadable. I'm sure that crappy packaging didn't help, either. (3 disk case with the 4th disk tossed in with a paper holder)

my disc fourth disc of LO worked fine. sorry to those who weren't so lucky. but my biggest gripe with multi-disc games has always been with how Microsoft packages them; stacking disc on top of each other only ruins the disc. even PS1 allowed for separate slots for multi-disc games.

But that still doesn't explain the fact that Undiscovery isn't a real word.

By the way you put it, shouldn't it just be Infinite Discoveries? Because you can't really undiscover something, just discover it again differently... maybe Infinite Rediscoveries.

Both of those names sound way better.

Would sound better how? This title is getting attention because it raises the questions that are being asked. Plus its ambigious nature opens up the whole 'perception' deal where it could mean something to one person and something entirely different to another.

I like SE's names. Better than 'Role playing game #293'. About the only one that made me go 'huh?!' was Final Fantasy X-2.

It's usually all about the FMV content. Lost Odyssey had four discs - with all the game content on each and a heap of HD video.
But it wasn't really annoying to change them, just annyoing to know that it really should have been just one disc. There were really only a handful of FMV sequences that were worth keeping in the game, such as the beginning, for one. Most of them should have been realtime.
Blue Dragon had three discs, similar issue there.
Too Human has ONE disc, plenty of very impressive realtime cutscenes. That's more like it.

I don't understand the bitching that constantly occurs everytime there is a news story about a game being multiple discs on xbox 360. Has EVERYONE forgotten that PS1 games sometimes had four discs?!?! all Resident Evils (save for 3 and 4 if I remember right) were on 2 discs - even when they were ported to the Gamecube! The solution is simple: if you don't want to change discs, either don't buy that particular game or wait 6 months longer for the inevitable PS3 version.....at which time it's released everyone else on the planet will have long since forgotten to care about the game because they already played it on Xbox 360 and moved onto the next timed 3rd party exclusive (hello Bioshock!)

It's mostly PS3 fanboys who pretend like they would have bought the game... then they say "Too bad my 360 RROD's for the 8th time".

I don't care how many games are on a disc, I just want it to be well packaged, not stacked or put into a paper disc envelope.

No one said they actually liked changing discs though. Just because its happened before doesn't mean it was actually good. If you could avoid changing discs without any other negatives that would always be preferable. Especially for devs since MS apparently rapes them on each disc. The debate lies in the fact that the BR drive in the PS3 carries potential negatives with how fast it can load.

Kinda off topic, but it's funny going back and reading posts from before big announcements... when they weren't even rumours.

People were saying this game (and Trusty Bell aka Eternal Sonata) would get canceled, and made for Wii or PS3. The same people believed Star Ocean 4 and FF13 were PS3 exclusives, and had the whole "wait until SO4, it's a true RPG" stuff going.

Maybe they were jinxing everything all along? :O

But, seriously, this game looks really fun. I'm going to get Tales of Vesperia and Infinite Undiscovery and play the hell out of those until Banjo 3 and Last Remnant come out. I love the upcoming lineup. Eternal Sonata and Lost Odyssey are my favourite 360 games so far, but this looks incredible.

The real problem multidisc causes is the fact that, seeing as some data can't be on both discs, some stuff inevitably ends up being cut off or made unvisitable (see FF8) because there's not enough space on the disc. There's only 6.8GB available on a 360 dual layer disc, and a lot of data has to be spread across both discs so that it's always accessible, so you end up with bugger all space for disc specific content.
You have to design the game specifically to accommodate this, including at times cutting things out and making smaller games, or limiting access.
