Killzone 2 co-op to be patched after launch, bots confirmed

Additionally, vehicles are currently only available in the single player mode. Multiplayer vehicles will be patched in after the game is released. Also being patched post-launch is a co-op mode for the story. Whether this will be online or not, we're not entirely certain. Considering the long delay Killzone has
Update: Guerrilla has a history of making free DLC with Killzone: Liberation (PSP). It released an Infrastructure multiplayer mode and an extra single-player level months after the game's release.

Good grief... they are planning patches before the game is released? I think the hype train is going to jump the rails on this one.
Hope it plays as good as it looks.
Lionbacker @ Aug 22nd 2008 4:07PM
I really hope that they don't charge us for those. It would be ridiculous.
tidefan94 @ Aug 22nd 2008 4:07PM
So they are adding new game modes that should be in the game after it comes out.
And people think M$ is cheap.
Hyams @ Aug 22nd 2008 5:05PM
The patch will probably be free.
JetPogi @ Aug 22nd 2008 7:55PM
could it be that the game only has polishing left? which is why they couldn't put the extra stuff they are about to add post launch ala Gears of War 2 patch.
jsn @ Aug 22nd 2008 4:08PM
will the game have the ability to fellate me or will that also be a patch?
AlterEgo @ Aug 22nd 2008 7:22PM
That's coming in a premium expansion.
dark_inchworm @ Aug 23rd 2008 2:06AM
I'm surprised nobody responded with the seemingly-obvious "it already sux lol" comment...
Jack of No Trades 85 @ Aug 22nd 2008 4:15PM
Wow, that sucks. Why are they planning patcher before the game is even complete? Im getting sick of paying an extra 15-25 bucks on a game that should already have that same content for 60 bucks.
Eggy @ Aug 22nd 2008 4:24PM
I'm getting sick of people complaining about an as of yet non existing issue.
If a game will be supported after launch people cheer, it's just different words for saying it will be patched. But hey keep posting dumb comments.
arrrgh @ Aug 22nd 2008 4:37PM
no co-op out of the box...that kinda hurts :(
Dan CiTi @ Aug 22nd 2008 5:29PM
It'll be free. This is not Xbox Live.
dark_inchworm @ Aug 23rd 2008 2:04AM
Yeah, because no Xbox 360 games ever have had game types released as DLC for free.
You've got marbles in your mouth.
nsdcx @ Aug 22nd 2008 4:15PM
So what exactly have they been doing all this time? No multiplayer vehicles and no co-op at launch, and they expect people to wait an unknown amount of time for it to be patched? Without saying whether it will be free or not? Talk about f***ing the consumer over.
Jack of No Trades 85 @ Aug 22nd 2008 4:17PM
Have you guys ever wondered if companies do this shit on purpose to see how the community reacts?
Hyams @ Aug 22nd 2008 5:09PM
Oh, come on! There wasn't going to be any co-op in the campaign, (lots of shooters don't have co-op: COD4, Half Life 2, Bioshock, for example).
People complained about this, so the devs said they'd make it for them, only they don't have time to add it in before the release date, so it'll have to be patched in afterwards.
Seriously, what exactly have they done wrong? They're doing us a favour.
Arnon @ Aug 23rd 2008 1:33PM
What they did wrong, was announced this information.. and didn't tell us exactly WHEN it would be patched into the game.. Hell didn't they do something with Killzone 1 like 6 months after it's release when it was promised to be released "soon"? I seriously cant remember, but I heard something about that. Just saying.. they shouldn't announce this stuff, until the game is actually out.
Johnny Lasley @ Aug 24th 2008 10:21AM
No they do pricing simulations and focus groups for that. That would only run a company $20,000 on the low end to do.
This is total disregard if you have to pay it. I don't think we will.

The way it's being reiterated as 'patched in' makes it seem like they just used the word patch instead of expansion so they wouldn't get caught talking about any expansions too soon. Either that or it's just Joystiq's throwing some passive negative spin in there. :P
I expect their 'patching' and map packs etc. so follow the approach Incognito took with Warhawk. Patching new free features and fixes with complimentary expansion pack DLC you have to pay for. Let's hope that they don't follow Warhawk's model TOO much though, because I think it's kind of lame to make new vehicles and such in a for-pay DLC pack instead of in a patch. I would rather vehicles with their respective maps be patched in, and then add new game modes, 'play lists', maps, or even map-specific weapons in the DLC. (srsly incog, jetpacks should be in the PATCH and work on all maps because being without a vehicle makes me want to wrist slit)
Robert @ Aug 22nd 2008 4:35PM
I sense a little of double standards on the comments. COD4 has no coop, has no multiplayer vehicles and it is considered the best FPS since FPS were created. Good to know they are planning to add those features, hopefully as entirely free updates, if for some reason they need to put a price, use the Warhawk model, pay for the new maps, with some free enhancements, this way they at least maintain the interest in multiplayer games (so no empty servers after a few months). I am not a fan of Valve, but the free DLC policy thay have with Team Fortress is the way to go for me
Vidikron (FU) @ Aug 22nd 2008 5:04PM
+1 Robert
It's the use of the word "patch" that has everyone worked up... oh that and this is a PS3 exclusive. If it was announced tomorrow that CoD4 was going to have co-op and multiplayer vehicles added (free OR for a fee) everyone would be singing Infinity Ward's praises.
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Aug 22nd 2008 5:28PM
Yeah but CoD fails wasn't designed with Co-Op and Vehicle sections in mind. Thus if they were shoehorned at this point, the game would suck.
It's not about double standards since knowing Guerilla the patch should be free. But the fact that they axe a shit load of features months before the game comes out, makes you wonder what the hell they've been doing this whole time! They had four fucking years and still failed to do as much AS SIMPLY ADD ANOTHER PLAYER!
Hyams @ Aug 22nd 2008 5:46PM
If the Killzone forum is anything to go by (and it probably is, as that's where the devs first said they would patch in co-op), it seems that Killzone 2 wasn't origionally designed for co-op either, it's just being added in because lots of people were asking for it.
Surely we should commend GG for this, not condemn them?
Organic_Shadow @ Aug 22nd 2008 7:19PM
@Robert: I wasn't contradicting myself on anything and wasn't saying anything negative. I was trying to imply that I think they'll go the route of Warhawk's DLC, but that I think if they do, they should still try and give us free stuff along with patches/fixes. And if they do give us free stuff, don't halfass it and put the goodies in DLC-only, because it splits the userbase with Warhawk. You have players that could benefit by getting jetpacks as a standard feature instead of having to pay for it. (using that as an example because playing as just a soldier sucks on warhawk)
I like CoD4's model, but the terms like playlist and stuff like that is confusing sometimes. I wouldn't say that their updates are huge though. They definitely add value and are free, but I think what im really trying to say is that Guerrilla needs to be careful about what they make us pay for and what they give us for free in patches(if they choose to make us pay for anything at all). If they give us everything for free- awesome. But if they save the vehicles and co-op etc. all for an expansion of some sort then they could be splitting their online player base like warhawk and other games. All of the people that don't buy things online won't get to access vehicles but those that have money do?
CONDENSED: Don't give us 80% of what the full game was supposed to be, and then charge us to get the full 100% you had envisioned the retail product being on day one. DLC should ADD VALUE, not make up for the lack of it.
Ken Seang @ Aug 22nd 2008 4:23PM
Umm what about the people that cant or dont go online with their ps3? What are they to do...
Maurice M @ Aug 22nd 2008 4:26PM
Why would they need online multiplayer features? If this game offers split-screen I could see them using the features, I guess.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Aug 22nd 2008 4:32PM
well they did mention online and/or offline co-op as a possible feature to be patched in. i think that would effect the offline people.....just sayin
arrrgh @ Aug 22nd 2008 4:39PM
suffer
Dirty @ Aug 22nd 2008 4:55PM
who isnt on the interwebs these days. If they can afford a ps3 I think they can probably afford interwebs.
Arnon @ Aug 23rd 2008 1:37PM
I don't think the 4 people that replied understood what he meant.. I think what he was implying, was that if someone cant go online with it, then they wont ever have this feature.. which again brings the question up.. "WHY ARE YOU RELEASING THIS AS A PATCH(Expansion?)?"
tmacairjordan87 @ Aug 22nd 2008 4:25PM
Wow way for everyone to jump to conclusions about pricing. Let's at least wait and see if they'll charge us for it before bitching about it.
AmericanNinja @ Aug 22nd 2008 6:08PM
agreed. they didnt even announce if they are going to charge or not.
LordChimp @ Aug 22nd 2008 4:45PM
Exactly. We don't even know if they are going to set a price and just make it free. Everyone needs to stop complaining until more info is out. If they do say you have to pay for the DLC, then you guys can bitch all you want.
Tez (PSN: Tezasaurus) @ Aug 22nd 2008 5:01PM
I'd rather they spent this time before release working on the core gameplay stuff instead of frills like bots and a co-op mode. I'm sure the single player/multiplayer and all the other high profile games will keep us quite busy until the updates hit.
I don't see anybody bitching about motorcycles not being included in Burnout Paradise from the get-go. They are just making their future plans for supporting the game known.
Happy_man @ Aug 22nd 2008 6:36PM
So I guess bots being included when the game realese is not that important to some of the whinner's that only see the negative in this. I for one can not wait to get my hands on this game.
=Curve= @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:45PM
I want as many layers of polish as they can stand to add. (The game better be shiny damnit!)
All the work they've done is incredible. Not only have they made *one* of the best looking games to date, but the multiplayer looks/sounds incredible.
People bitch just to bitch. How about instead of going up in arms, stand back and wait and see how things end up turning out.
Questworld @ Aug 23rd 2008 4:29AM
If I wait for a Greatest Hits release, would these patches be available on the disc?
Immortal Technique PSN: johnnynumber5 @ Aug 23rd 2008 4:49PM
more than likely it will be similar to what oblivion did with the goty edition.
Phoenix @ Aug 23rd 2008 4:17PM
It's gonna be 2-3 years before K2 becomes a greatest Hit.
phinn @ Aug 24th 2008 2:47PM
They can keep their bots. The only reason why I would buy a first person shooter is for really good online multiplayer. That's the real replay value. Plus it's the only way to get a real challenge is to play real people.
