Republic Commando('s head) cameos in Force Unleashed demo
Tipster and head hunter SpikeDelight tells us "This is almost surely a hint towards a next-gen sequel to the game," but we're not sure we'd go that far. Still, it's cute, right?

Speaking of Republic Commando, where the hell is the sequel? That game was one of the best star wars games ever.
theturtle363 @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:33AM
they kinda ditched the game in favor of a series of books, which also makes me think that definitely isn't Delta 1138's helmet since the next book will be titled Imperial Commando
dead_ox @ Aug 22nd 2008 12:55PM
I was just thinking how awesome an Imperial Commando game would be, like, last night! That'd be sweet!
Dan CiTi @ Aug 22nd 2008 3:46PM
Yeah. If that game had co-op it'd be perfect. I can only hope a PC/PS3/360 sequel is in the works with all the right features.
BananaBoat @ Aug 22nd 2008 5:26PM
Vcize - Good point, but unless you get ALOT more force bar in the retail release, it's pointless. Trying to kill anything with a lightsaber is nearly impossible, so to give us limited force powers is deadly.
Mike - Also a good point. Force Unleashed is an action game, but comes nowhere near to being as good as other action games such as DMC4 or Ninja Gaiden 2 (which had it's share of camera problems, but that's a story for another day). Both Dante and Ryu out badass the guy in Force Unleashed (Or, as I like to call it, F.U) by a considerable margin. I think BIG sacrifices were made to keep the game rated T (for instance...you can't chop a guy in half with your lightsaber. The damn thing is about as efficient as a big wooden oar).

Iphail. Replied to the wrong comment.

Speaking of The Force Unleashed, how is everyone liking the demo so far?
Poisoned Al @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:21AM
Well, I won't be buying it. The controls are rather horrid, and and gameplay was a bit dull to my surprise. The gravity gun is far more satisfying then this. The nail in the coffin for me was... ergh... quick time events!
PSN & GAMERTAG: jorojoserojas - Wii FC: 0749-8609-3752-6926 @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:27AM
I'm totally liking the demo - in fact, I've played through it twice!
But, I can see how it can get repetitive. If the game isn't too long - say, 5 to 8 hours - I'd say that would be just enough time to play without getting bored of it.
Xero @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:34AM
it kicks ass...
Mr.ESC @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:31AM
I still have to download it.I've been busy.
Draco Basileus @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:51AM
The demo's pretty sweet. My only issue thus far is the fact that it's a little hard to target specific items with the Force Grab, especially when you're in the middle of a fight. I wish they had a reticle on screen so that you could fine tune grabbing. Right now the item that gets highlighted isn't always the item I wanted to pick and throw.
Zertoss @ Aug 22nd 2008 12:00PM
Spent a few minutes with the demo last night, and I think the controls feel pretty awkward. I probably just need to get used to them.
Other than that, I've found the game both hilarious and awesome, and I'm definitely buying it now.
Dirty @ Aug 22nd 2008 12:00PM
Its fun, but it doesn't really feel like your a badass. The enemies dont seem challenging as you just run through and slaughter them. Its a bit disappointing.
Im renting it, and am very interested in the story.
AwesomeTown @ Aug 22nd 2008 1:38PM
Played through it, and it wasn't a terrible by any means, but I was just disappointed in the end.
BananaBoat @ Aug 22nd 2008 1:53PM
As bizarre as it may sound, I didn't like the demo because the force powers are a bit lacking. For instance, I can pick up tie fighter and toss it across a room, but it takes me a full minute (with dudes shooting me in the back) to pull open the lock of a blast door? Similarly, it takes multiple force lightnings to kill anything, and it takes two force pushes to open doors. This game would have benefited from having unlimited force power, but instead you get to zap a few guys...and then wait around for awhile....since when did anyone ever have to "recharge" the force?
On top of that, it's a shame that they give you so much power, because it makes it all the more akward when you can't use it effectively. For instance, in the demo, I had just got done tossing a tie fighter hundreds of feet, when out comes a small imperial walker (the two leg kind, not the full AT-AT). Naturally, I tried to force pick it up...to no avail. I realize that for the game to be challenging in the least, they need to have enemies you can't just man handle, but it's not very consistent. Also, does there need to be something I can force toss every three feet? I'm walking along and the walls are lit up with the blue icon that indicates the object can be tossed. Also, sometimes you use a force power, and weird crap happens like a pane of glass falling and shattering from the ceiling for no specific reason, etc.
I guess I was hoping for this game to be everything that starwars games haven't been since Kotor, and judging from the demo, it's really not. This game honestly reminds me of a force-on-steroids version of Star Wars Episode III for the original Xbox (which isn't a good thing). Game went from buy to rent for me, based on this demo (also based on all the other games I've got to buy. Soul Calibur 4, Spore, Little Big Planet, KZ2, GOW2, Fable 2, etc)
Maybe I'm just too old to enjoy the repetitive thrills of picking up random metal box #10177 and tossing it at ragdoll opponents that never stood a chance in the first place (which is saying something..since I'm still fairly young)

edit:
Not spore actually, forgot that I learned it's going to use Securom last night.

"Its fun, but it doesn't really feel like your a badass. The enemies dont seem challenging as you just run through and slaughter them. Its a bit disappointing."
Who's more badass than a guy who effortlessly slaughters his enemies by the handful? Perhaps it would be more badass if he cowered behind a conveniently placed indestructible box and took potshots with a blaster?
In all seriousness though, I agree that the enemies need a little more challenge. Though I must admit that I have not yet tried the two higher difficulty settings.
Obie @ Aug 22nd 2008 2:43PM
Agreed, the controls turned me off. Maybe a rental at most.
Vcize @ Aug 22nd 2008 3:02PM
BananaBoat, it's possible that many of those concerns will be addressed as you level up in the game. When your force push levels up in the demo, you can then open blast doors in one shot. It'll probably be the same with force lightning doing more damage to kill them in one shot, etc.
I do hope that leveling up also means you can get a bigger force bar though. As you mentioned, the thing drains way too fast.
When you go into the first battle area, instead of jumping down run straight across the rampway you're on and there's an unlimited energy power-up, which is fun until it wears off.
Mike @ Aug 22nd 2008 4:00PM
"Who's more badass than a guy who effortlessly slaughters his enemies by the handful?"
Ryu Hayabusa. And he has to work for every kill.
ohms @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:25AM
A sequel would have to be called Imperial Commando, and include Jedi as bosses.
Maurice M @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:28AM
Loved the first game. It had some balancing issues but it was still fun. The books are great too.
Mr.ESC @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:33AM
Not a fan of the series so who the hell is that again?
theturtle363 @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:35AM
Delta 1138 was the squad leader of Delta Squad in the Republic Commando game.
Batzarro @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:39AM
The guy may have dropped his clone trooper helmet in favor of the Storm trooper design ones. But it'd have to be seen in the context of the scene in the game.
SpikeDelight @ Aug 22nd 2008 12:25PM
Wow I didn't think my video would actually get featured here. Thanks Joystiq! My money's still on a current-gen sequel. Or at least that's where my hopes are at the moment.
theturtle363 @ Aug 22nd 2008 1:15PM
is current gen 360 and Wii or is that still new gen?
SpikeDelight @ Aug 22nd 2008 1:33PM
Oh, well I consider 360, PS3 and Wii current-gen, but I think Joystiq changed it to next-gen to avoid any confusion (like this) :)
The Rabbid @ Aug 22nd 2008 2:21PM
Man, I loved Republic Commando. I may have to re-install it now and go though it again. And I would LOVE sequel.
gamer4250 @ Aug 22nd 2008 8:03PM
I played the demo, it was decent fun but it had problems. The targeting system is total shit, force grip doesn't feel near as good or easy to control as it should, the camera is obnoxious, and it gets a bit repetitive.
The SackBoy @ Aug 22nd 2008 10:28PM
I got to it!
hope html works?
The SackBoy @ Aug 22nd 2008 10:29PM
I got to it! Took a picture because I was so proud I learned how to stack the boxes, hehe...

A sequel would be amazing, but while Boss's helmet could be a hint, I'm still not convinced (and it's his helmet, I'm a huge fan. And its in the real game too). Force Unleashed is amazing, though.
