Recently released in Europe and Australia, SingStar Vol. 2 will take the stage in North America sometime in October, no doubt letting armchair harmonizers looking for the next in Sony's karaoke series breathe a sigh of relief -- preferably not directly into the mic.
This latest expansion will add 30 new sing-along tracks, as well as support for Trophies, presumably used to club off-tune rockers over the head for butchering radio favorites. However, given the advent of the SingStore, the need for regular discs seems trivial, especially once our arms tire from all that disc swapping. Plus, we'd rather cherry pick songs we know we'll like rather than buy in bulk and hope for the best. That's just how we roll.

No offence, but it seems like this series will really fail now that Lips is coming out.

As a gamer who bought SINGSTAR(PS3), I'm not offended in the least - well, by your comment anyway. I got the game because I usually entertain friends with food/booze, multiplayer FPS, "Wii'nsanity", and amateur karaoke games.
I am disgusted however at the way the "new" songs are being released, let alone the choices in those uploaded. Without going into personal bias over which artists are "karaoke classics", I will say that it was ridiculous that the PS3 version of SINGSTAR went without the previous versions(depending on region)all on one BluRay disc... and *then* offer additional songs for download. The whole VOLUME2 disc ripping seems like a lame efforted cash-in, especially if those earlier versions can't be found. As I said in the previous SINGSTAR post, since they went the route of not including all previous versions on one disc, they could've at least had them all on the online store ready for download & verified either through proof of purchase or something.
As for LIPS, I haven't heard enough about it beyond the stylish microphone to make any kind of decent comment about it. But if it turns out for the better, I'll get it instead via trade-in of SINGSTAR and just "eat" the $10 I've spend on additional song downloads from SINGSTAR.

@Foxhound - "As I said in the previous SINGSTAR post, since they went the route of not including all previous versions on one disc,"
Haven't you learned by now how licensed music works? You can't just toss a couple hundred songs that were on the PS2 discs and not pay the record label for them.
"they could've at least had them all on the online store ready for download & verified either through proof of purchase or something."
Yeah, that wouldn't get abused somehow...
What it comes down to is that the pieces of garbage that are the record labels is the primary reason why SingStar isn't overflowing with music. For example, songs that are on Volume 2 will not show up on the Store because of licensing issues.

Not flamebaiting at all. See, Lips supports your own songs and Singstar really doesn't stand a chance if they keep releasing song packs like this. They need something new.Or the least they could do is copy that feature from Lips...

PS3 Fanboy is incorrect.
Trophies are not coming until 'early next year' as detail in the official blog post here (look in the comments section):

I might buy this just for the trophy support, but if the original Singstar PS3 can be patched for trophy support then I'd pass on this: I've got plenty of HDD space and the only Vol.2-exclusives I'd want anyway are "When You Were Young" by The Killers and "Don't Stand So Close To Me" by The Police. The DLC updates are working just fine for now.

What is up with the woman in the foreground? Talk about a fashion atrocity! Those sunglasses look preposterous, like maybe she's blind or something and some store clerk sold her on the ugliest and most unmovable set of eyewear in his store.
Ah yes, abusing the disabled. A pastime celebrated the world over.

That's really unfortunate. I guess this comes from the same wizards who gave us tit-curtains? (see below)
I'm always mystified when I see people dressed in what is apparently "fashionable" garb who look like complete morons. Girls in fur-lined boots in August, for example. Won't the madness ever stop?
And fashionable or not the woman at the front of this pic has always looked incredibly goofy to me. It could be the gaping maw and semi-crazed facial expression I guess, but those gigantic lenses really add to the comedy for me too. :D

yeah I dont know where the huge sunglasses fase came from. I went out with the ladies from work and a few guys and everyone was wearing these super giant oversized sunglases that covered their whole face. I mean of course i didnt say anything, but im never buying a pair like that for myself. I dont care what the current trends and crap are.

I really enjoy the pick-what-you-want mentality of DLC, but at the same time, smaller artists that we would never give a chance to look at are left behind.
Just look at Guitar Hero 1. The bonus setlist is amazing, and if it was all DLC, it would hardly sell at all.
My only issue with this Singstar is the fact that this disc only has 30 songs. Even with the high-resolution background video, you can cram WAY more songs onto a blu-ray disc. 30 songs is just pitiful, even for $40. Especially in the wake of competition, such as Rock Band and the next Guitar Hero and Rock Band games. Both having over 80 on disc songs.
